Eva Longoria is putting a lot of thought into who she surrounds herself with in movies and TV shows.
The actress-filmmaker recently admitted to People magazine that she only wants “to work with people I love,” naming friends and fellow actresses Kerry Washington and Gabrielle Union as an example.
“Life’s too short to work with assholes, and I’d much rather be surrounded by people I love, and creatives that I respect,” Longoria continued, adding that she uses “reverse engineering” to decide what to work on next.
The Flamin’ Hot star and director explained that before she even seeks out new projects, she considers who she wants to collaborate with first and later finds something that everyone can agree on.
“It’s the people and their vision and what they bring to it more than the actual project” that makes her want to be on set,” Longoria said.

Eva Longoria is back in front of the cameras, following a busy award season supporting her feature film directorial debut Flamin’ Hot. Longoria has been cast in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building Season 4 in a recurring role.
Details regarding the new season’s plot and character descriptions remain under wraps. However, we do know the new episodes will focus on unraveling the murder of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), Charles-Haden Savage’s (Steve Martin) mind-bogglingly identical stunt double from his years on the series Brazzos and its 2020 revival.
Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich revealed in a recent Deadline interview that the Only Murders In the Building trio: Charles, Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez), will kick off the new season with a trip to Los Angeles before returning to The Arconia in their search of Sazz’s killer.

Oscar-winning Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar has made a name for himself with a series of brightly colored, delightfully kinky and unabashedly melodramatic titles, mixing comedy, drama, sex and violence to great success. He shows no signs of slowing down, with his latest outing in 2019 being the Oscar-nominated “Pain and Glory.” Let’s take a look back at all 22 of his films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1949 in Spain, Almodovar came to prominence during La Movida Madrilena, a cultural renaissance that blossomed at the end of Francoist Spain. Staring with his filmmaking debut “Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls Like Mom” (1980), the openly gay director showed an affinity for oddballs and outsiders, populating his films with transvestites, transexuals and homosexuals, all of whom had previously been relegated to the closet. He also showed a talent for working with women, and throughout his 40 year career has placed actresses such as Penelope Cruz,...

Director Eva Longoria, in Flaming Hot, tells the real life story of Richard Montañez whose drive and dedication saw him rise up the ranks at Frito-Lay as he helped establish Flamin’ Hot Cheetos – the snack that disrupted the food industry and became a global pop-culture phenomenon.
Montañez went from a janitor to become an executive at Frito-Lay and experienced a level of success that exceeded even his most ambitious dreams. He became a role model for Mexican Americans who finally had a hero of their own: a man from the same background, roots and poverty, who faced the same discrimination and racism,...

Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s modern-day feminist Western, “The Beasts,” already a box office breakout in France and Spain, swept nine prizes including film, director, and original screenplay on Saturday at a celebratory 37th Goya Awards, given Spain’s big fest prizes and rally at its home box office.
The upbeat mood was tempered inevitably by the death of Carlos Saura, one of Spanish cinema’s greats and this year’s Goya of Honor, on Friday.
In a rare departure, a foreign actor, France’s Denis Ménochet (“Inglorious Basterds”) took best actor, winning for his marvellous turn in the conflict-negotiation themed “The Beasts,” as a French settler in modern-day deep Galicia who finally refuses to back down when taunted by locals. His attitude contrasts pointedly with his wife’s.

Exclusive: The upcoming Apple TV+ series Land of Women is adding four cast members to its roster: Amaury Nolasco (Hightown), Santiago Cabrera (Star Trek: Picard), Gloria Muñoz (Dangerous Moms), and newcomer Victoria Bazua. Production is currently underway in Spain.

Cabrera will play Amat, who has lived in La Muga for only a couple of years. While he likes to keep to himself, he has a heart of gold and has quickly earned the affection of the townsfolk… and perhaps even Gala’s. "This is not a movie. It's a trip." Netflix Film has revealed the full=length official trailer for a Spanish re-imagining of The Wizard of Oz called simply just Rainbow. Somewhere over the… comes this new film from Spain about a teenager's coming-of-age journey. The synopsis doesn't exactly explain where she goes or what happens to her, but the trailer gives us a look at her experiences. The hyper-stylized film will heavily feature important aspects of contemporary culture such as dance, fashion, plastic arts and above all, music. The film's cast is led by Dora Postigo, Áyax Pedrosa, Wekaforé Jibril (Spirit Disco), Carmen Maura, Carmen Machi, and Luis Bermejo. This definitely does look trippy, but it also seems cheesy, with the Wizard of Oz elements turned into a hipster aesthetic that kind of seems cringe (to me). It might be fun, as there's some crazy ideas in this tease and...

To escape the dangerous criminals to whom Gala’s now vanished husband is indebted, the three women hide in the same charming wine town in Northern Spain that Gala’s mother fled 50 years ago, vowing never to return. The women seek to start anew and hope their identities will remain unknown, but gossip in the small town quickly spreads, unraveling their deepest family secrets and truths.

Editor’s note: The following essay was written by filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar shortly after he attended the 94th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday. It was provided for IndieWire in an exclusive English translation. Almodóvar’s 2021 film “Parallel Mothers” was nominated for two awards: Best Actress (Penélope Cruz) and Best Original Score (Alberto Iglesias).
Yesterday was an exhausting day, especially in the evening. One of the secret reasons I have for being in Los Angeles (as well as going hand in hand with Penélope to the Dolby Theatre and experiencing in situ if her nomination still has a road to travel or if the prize was the nomination) is to meet with some actors as I think about the cast for my next film, which is starring Cate Blanchett and based on five stories by Lucia Berlin from her book “A Manual for Cleaning Women.” It’s an open secret, but I can’t discuss it,...

"It takes time to understand your parents..." Gravitas Ventures has released an official trailer for an indie coming-of-age story titled Chasing Wonders, filmed across five years by first-time filmmaker Paul Meins. Also known as Emu Plains, a reference to one of the wine growing locations in this, the film is being released in this US this June. A coming-of-age story set across the lush wine country of both Australia and Spain, a young man explores the nature of father-son relationships and the pathway toward understanding and forgiveness. This looks like a heartwarming story about the revelations of growing up. Chasing Wonders stars Michael Crisafulli as Sabino, with Edward James Olmos, Paz Vega, Jessica Marais, Carmen Maura, Antonio de la Torre, and Quim Gutiérrez. Not the best trailer, but this looks pretty good. A lot of lovely shots of landscapes and the stars and vineyards. I'm curious if there's some celestial aspect to this?...

This review of “The Human Voice” was first published after its premiere at the New York Film Festival on Sept. 24, 2020.
Cinema history will doubtlessly note “The Human Voice” as notable for being the English-language debut of Spanish auteur Pedro Almodóvar — and for its status as a pandemic-driven production — but it’s absolute Almodóvar through and through, from its production design and aesthetic shout-outs to its deep understanding of longing and heartbreak, viewed through the eyes (and the voice) of a hypnotic female lead.
There’s perhaps no actress on Earth more suited to shepherd the director’s first go-round in English than Tilda Swinton, and she’s an ideal creative partner. Her work finds that balance between understated empathy and grand theatricality that marks so many of the great performances in Almodóvar’s work, and as a physical being, she’s practically an architectural presence, much like one of his earlier muses,...

I bet Pedro Almodóvar's filmography would be a fun one to watch in order. His visual ideas and narrative fascinations recur throughout his films, yet his deployment and examination of them take on different textures at different points. Murder, art, cinema, romantic passion, heartbreaking yet inextricably devoted family ties, queerness, as filtered through the generic keys of farce, melodrama, and thriller, it’s all there from his earliest works to last year’s tremendously moving Pain and Glory, each film recognizably guided by the same hand. There’s great fun to be had in watching different stylists and performers interpret Almodóvar’s very tricky vision, and no collaboration largely specific to the earliest stages of his career is quite as gratifying as Carmen Maura’s heroic work with him throughout the ‘80s.

Spain’s master filmmaker Pedro Almodovar’s first English-language film, “The Human Voice,” is akin to a Douglas Sirk fevered-dream. An unnamed woman (Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton) has been waiting for three days for a phone call from her long-time love who has left her for another so he would arrange a time for him to pick up his luggage and his dog. And then the phone rings. In less than 30 minutes, Swinton emotes every passion from joy to anger to suicidal despair during her photo call.
Critics were effusive in their praise at the Venice International Film Festival and New York Film Festival with Sony Pictures Classic picking up the live-action short film. “Despite its origins as a play. “The Human Voice” is well-suited to being filmed,” said Gary M. Kramer in Salon. “Swinton’s expressions, from a silent sigh in the opening moments, to her look of shock enhanced by her unkempt,...

‘Chasing Wonders’ (Photo: Sam Oster).
Arclight Films has taken the worldwide distribution rights to coming-of-age film Chasing Wonders, produced by South Australia’s Sla Films and the UK’s Met Film, launching sales at the virtual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this week.
Scripted by Judy Morris, the film was shot over five years across Australia and Spain and with a cast that includes Paz Vega, Edward James Olmos, Quim Gutierrez, Carmen Maura, Antonio de la Torre, Jessica Marais and newcomer Michael Crisafulli as the lead.
Due to make its world premiere at October’s Adelaide Film Festival, Chasing Wonders follows a 12 year old, whose sense of adventure and imagination runs wild, fueled by his maternal grandfather’s (Olmos) encouragement to journey to the magical Emu Plains. Award-winning Spanish producer Agustín Almodóvar, brother of Oscar-winning filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, has tweeted the first clip of the latter’s upcoming short film “The Human Voice,” starring Academy Award-winning actor Tilda Swinton and produced by the siblings’ El Deseo banner.

The almost one-minute clip is dialogue-free, but shows Swinton in a brilliant red dress walking out from behind an opaque sheet and cross in front of a large, grey backstage wall before sitting down with her hands folded across her lap, a concerned look on her face as she inhales deeply.
In July, Agustín tweeted the first set photos of the production, in which Pedro is seen wearing a stylish black mask with Swinton using a handheld face shield. Agustín commented in Spanish: “Pedro Almodóvar, Tilda Swinton, El Deseo (the brothers...

In the photo, taken in Madrid, Almodóvar is seen wearing a stylish black mask while Swinton employs a handheld face shield. Agustín Almodóvar comments in Spanish: “Pedro Almodóvar, Tilda Swinton, El Deso (the brothers’ production company), #LAVOZHumana . First day of shooting.”
After years as one of the world’s most-recognized auteurs — who was once offered the chance to direct 1992’s “Sister Act,” but ultimately passed — the short marks the 70-year-old filmmaker’s first English-language production.
When the short was announced in February, Almodóvar said he planned to start shooting in April in Madrid.

On Monday night, as the new hardened measures for the current quarantine were being announced, I started feeling symptoms of claustrophobia for the first time. Setting aside his usual gonzo theatrics, Álex de la Iglesia deftly juggles several genres in this 2002 film including action, drama and especially comedy. A bittersweet salute to spaghetti westerns and the stuntman who made them, the film stars Sancho Gracia and Carmen Maura. The suitably dusty photography was courtesy of de la Iglesia regular, Flavio Martínez Labiano.
