A new episode of the Real Slashers video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at a film that has earned a solid cult following despite the fact that it’s only available in a cut down, TV-friendly version. It’s Cherry Falls (watch it Here) from the year 2000, and you can hear all about it by checking out the video embedded above.
Directed by Geoffrey Wright from a screenplay by Ken Selden, Cherry Falls has the following synopsis: A small-town sheriff, Brent Marken, discovers the presence of a serial killer in his sleepy hamlet. Since the perpetrator has been targeting only virgins, both male and female, the deaths cause panic in much of the local high school population. Sheriff Marken’s daughter, Jody, is among the potential victims, since she has yet to sleep with her boyfriend, Kenny Ascott. Can the lawman stop...

"The Exorcist" remains one of the most frightening and intense horror films to this day. Even after 50 years, time has done little to diminish its power to shock and terrify audiences. Based on the popular novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty, director William Friedkin's "The Exorcist" was a massive hit among moviegoers who were thrilled by its story of a sweet young girl getting possessed by a demon who forces her to commit all kinds of obscene and horrible acts.
Despite the positive response from audiences and critics alike, the film also generated considerable controversy for its graphic nature and religious themes, with some even claiming that there was an evil in the celluloid itself. Still, all of the wild stories only added to the movie's legacy, further cementing its place in cinema history.

I can think of a few living filmmakers better suited to making an "Exorcist" movie than Paul Schrader. From the existential rage and self-loathing of Travis Bickle in "Taxi Driver," through the spiritual torment of Jesus in "The Last Temptation of Christ," to the doubting pastors of "Affliction" and "First Reformed," Schrader has spent much of his career exploring matters of the soul. As Roger Ebert once noted, "One thing [Schrader's] movies have in common is a very strong, visible sense of sin."
So who better to direct an "Exorcist" prequel after William Peter Blatty's flawed "The Exorcist III" marked a return to form for the series after the loopy metaphysics of John Boorman's "Exorcist II: The Heretic?" Surely if anyone could get to the bottom of Father Merrin's past exploits, it would be Schrader, right?
Problems arose because Schrader was only Morgan Creek's third pick to direct the movie.

When the news dropped about Warner Bros. deciding to shelve "Batgirl," "Scoob!: Holiday Haunt," and potentially other projects being produced for HBO Max, it struck a lot of us as a fairly unprecedented move. For "Batgirl" in particular, the size of the budget (a reported 90 million) and its connection to a popular franchise make it an even more startling that this decision has happened. The implications of using productions that artists spend years working on as mere tax loophole fodder sets a fairly depressing precedent for how studios can operate in the future.
However, this is not the first time a nearly completed film has been shelved by a studio. It's not even the first one shelved by Warner Bros. since the turn of the 21st Century. In fact, one shelved production also happened to connect to a very well-known franchise, and next year, we will see a new entry...

Composers Christophe Beck and the Newton Brothers were among top honorees at Thursday night’s Sesac Film and Television Composer Awards in Santa Monica, California.
Beck was cited for his music for last year’s action comedy “Free Guy,” while the Newton Brothers (Andy Grush and Taylor Stewart) earned their award for scoring the action-horror film “The Forever Purge.”
Television composers honored for popular series included Danny Lux, Jon Ehrlich, Gabriel Mann (“A Million Little Things”) and Paul Buckley (“Odd Squad”).
Scott Jungmichel, recently named president and COO of Sesac Performing Rights, greeted the crowd, while Erin Collins, VP of film, television and developing media, announced that Sesac’s Reel Change: The Fund for Diversity in Film Scoring program (designed to support traditionally underrepresented groups) had recently funded projects for 12 composers, amounting to nearly 200,000.

Welcome back to Let’s Scare Bryan to Death, and doing the honors of introducing me to a new (to me) horror movie this month is Dax Ebaben, a fellow Philly/Jersey boy who has bylines at Bloody Disgusting, Film Cred, and Gayly Dreadful. Podcast listeners may also recognize him from Watched Once, Never Again, a show Ebaben co-hosts with previous Lstbd guest Mary Beth McAndrews to discuss movies too dark or disturbing to allow for repeat viewings. Their tagline, “We’re traumatizing ourselves so you don’t have to,” is basically made for softies like me who are intrigued by the darker corners of horror but don’t have the emotional fortitude to visit them too often.
Fortunately, Ebaben isn’t taking me too far down a traumatizing rabbit hole for this month’s movie. Instead, he’s leading me through a portal into a magical slasher realm where...

It’s been 10 years since audiences first met Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) in her quest for revenge on the wealthy Grayson family, who she believed were responsible not only for her father going to prison, but also for his death.
Loosely based on “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas, the series, aptly titled “Revenge,” ran four four seasons on ABC, from 2011-2015. It followed Emily (real name Amanda Clarke) as she moved to the Hamptons to carry out her plan, only to become more embroiled with the Graysons than even she could have expected and to learn secrets about her father than shocked even her.
Here, the cast and crew talk about the series’ overnight success, the confines of network television and about the departure of a key figure integral to the show’s DNA.

Main characters can be overrated. There, I said it.
The problem with main characters is that there’s so much pressure placed on them to be likable.
Sometimes the added pressure works in a character's favor, but other times, the extra attention turns what could have been an admirable lead into one that either falls flat or appears too overdeveloped.
That's rarely the case with sidekicks as they are quite literally created with the intention of propping up said main character
Now, that isn't to say the role of a sidekick is easy; their job is especially difficult as they bear a handful of responsibilities. They’re known as supporting and secondary characters that assist the main character, break the ice in tense situations using comedic relief, give advice, and clean up messes.
They also have the ability to raise the stakes of a show without outshining the lead.

This article contains major Batwoman spoilers.
Just like in the comics, the CW’s Batwoman started in the long shadow of Batman’s absence. Gotham didn’t know why their hero had forsaken them, and Kate missed her favorite cousin dearly. But through a complicated series of events, Batwoman and her team rose to fill the void and give Gotham hope again.
For some fans, the question has always been “But where is Bruce Wayne?” Some have been hoping for a glimpse of one of DC’s most famous and beloved heroes in live action on the small screen since Oliver Queen first started shooting tennis balls in a basement. During its season 1 finale, Batwoman made good and gave us a couple of glimpses of Bruce Wayne, albeit in a nontraditional way.
Is Bruce Wayne really on Batwoman?
Just to be clear, no. Well, not yet? We can’t say...

When a character like Batman has not only appeared on screen since 1943 but has also been recast numerous times, it only makes sense that fans find themselves attached to specific actors who’ve inhabited the role.
For instance, despite having featured in a campy TV show, a lot of people still stand by Adam West. This is mostly because his take on the hero boasted such conviction and embodied many of the qualities we associate with the Dark Knight. Likewise, there are tons of fans who would make compelling cases for the likes of Michael Keaton, Kevin Conroy and Christian Bale, among others. But now there’s a new actor to add to the list. Well, kind of.
You see, earlier tonight, the Arrowverse finally revealed what its take on Bruce Wayne looked like on the season 1 finale of Batwoman, and you can catch a glimpse of him via the gallery below.

The Covid-19 pandemic caused production to shut down on March 12th, meaning the producers have had to repurpose episode 20, “O, Mouse” into a big finale. We’ll find out tomorrow whether this tactic works when The Flash wraps up, with Batwoman following soon after on May 17th.
Whatever the case, while it might not have been intended as a finale, this new promo teases an episode that’s not short on excitement. Fans seem to have concluded that Mouse is set to die in the upcoming outing, though with Batwoman surrounded and at gunpoint in a fully-lit sports stadium, things aren’t going great for her, either. But probably the most intriguing thing about the finale is a tease from the synopsis, which you can see below.

Since Batwoman introduced the character of Tommy Doyle back in its third episode “Down Down Down,” fans have been eager for the appearance of his villainous alter ego Hush. After being teased in last week’s episode, the bandage-faced maniac made his true debut last night in “A Secret Kept from All the Rest.”
When the character was shipped off to Arkham at the end of his debut appearance when it came to light that he murdered his mother, it was inevitable that he would eventually return as the single-minded maniac. He resurfaced in scenes set in the asylum, forming a tentative alliance with Alice, and managed to escape due to the security in that place being about as tight as a revolving door. As expected, fans had some excited thoughts on his rampage and made sure to let them be known over on social media.

Batwoman episode 19, A Secret Kept From All the Rest,” represents a landmark moment for the series, as it’s the first time the show has introduced a villain from her cousin Batman’s rogues’ gallery for Kate to face. In this installment, Gabriel Mann makes his official debut as Hush, the supervillain alter ego of real estate mogul and Bruce Wayne obsessive Tommy Elliot, complete with dramatic bandages and a truly stylish trench coat. As Tommy, he has a preexisting – and largely antagonistic – relationship with Kate, but as Hush, he’s built a new, more dangerous one with Alice, as the two join forces to try and crack the code of Lucius Fox’s journal.

In the meantime, 'Kate' (Ruby Rose) is consumed with someone's betrayal and starts questioning the loyalty of everyone around her just when she needs them most. The trailer for this Sunday’s episode of Batwoman teased the arrival of a classic Batman supervillain in all their glory. Tommy Elliot (as played by Gabriel Mann) has been part of the show since its earliest episodes last year, but the most recent installment saw him finally get his face – or lack of one, after what Alice did to him – wrapped in bandages. Yes, Hush is coming and you can get your best look yet at the crazed foe in these new promo images.
Hush debuted in 2002’s self-titled seminal comic book storyline from Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, but to date hasn’t appeared in live-action before, so this is a big deal. On Batwoman, Elliot was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne’s whose abusive mother was later saved by Batman in a car crash – which it’s implied he caused. In his debut episode, it was...

The latest installment of Batwoman ended with a huge treat for fans. The promo for next week’s episode, “A Secret Kept From All The Rest,” revealed our first look at Gabriel Mann’s Thomas Elliot in his full Hush get-up. The former childhood friend of Bruce Wayne turned homicidal maniac was introduced early on in the show’s debut run, but now he’s back with his face bandaged up, giving the character a very comic-accurate appearance.
Fans have understandably gone crazy for this exciting new take on one of the more underrated enemies in Batman’s rogues gallery. With Bruce having disappeared from Gotham years ago, Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane has mostly stuck to battling her own unique villains, so Hush’s arrival is a pretty big deal for the Arrowverse series – which has rarely featured major Batman foes before now.
One word says it all!

It’s been a long time coming, but Hush is finally making a full comic-accurate appearance in Batwoman. We got our first look at the villain in the new trailer for episode nineteen of the show, entitled “A Secret Kept From All the Rest,” and you can check it out for yourself up above.
Comic book fans will have known this transformation has been coming since the third episode way back in October 2019, when we were first introduced to Gabriel Mann’s Thomas Elliot. In the source material, Elliot was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne’s born into a similarly wealthy family. The pair had a lot in common, sharing smarts, cunning and strategic thinking. However, their stories soon drastically diverged. Elliot hated his parents and wished to be free of them, going so far as to attempt to murder them in a car crash.

Batwoman has spent most of its season playing around with villains primarily specific to Kate Kane and her world. The show often alludes to some of the biggest, most recognizable Batman villains associated with her more famous cousin, but it hasn’t waded into bringing any of them to the screen. And really, most attempts at traditional “villain of the week” stuff would just be overshadowed by the brilliance of Rachel Skarsten’s Alice anyway. But that’s about to change next week when Tommy Elliot goes full Hush.
That’s right, Gabriel Mann is about to return as Tommy Elliot, but this time with a face full of bandages and a trenchcoat. In other words, Tommy Elliot is now Hush. And really, he couldn’t possibly look any cooler than he does here. This is a significant upgrade from the Tommy Elliot we met in Batwoman episode 3, “Down, Down,...

Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke's twisted tale of revenge is over, but ABC is poised to kick off a new iteration of Revenge.
We reported earlier this month that a brand new series set in the same universe of 2011-15 TV original is officially in the works.
The new iteration follows a young Latinx immigrant who arrives in Malibu seeks revenge on a "Sackler-Esque pharmaceutical dynasty, whose insatiable greed lead to the murder of her biochemist mother, the destruction of her family, and a global epidemic."
The most intriguing aspect of a potential sequel is that a character from the original would be on board to guide this young woman on her mission.
No details have been revealed about who will be back, but that doesn't mean we can't chat about who should return in some capacity for the sequel.

ABC is not done with Revenge after all.
Deadline is reporting that the broadcast network is developing a reboot of the hit 2011-15 TV series.
This new take comes from the original series creator and Executive Producer Mike Kelley, and writer-producer Joe Fazzio.
Both Kelley and Fazzio pen the pilot. It features the story of a young Latinx immigrant who arrives in Malibu to dole out some revenge on a "Sackler-Esque pharmaceutical dynasty, whose insatiable greed lead to the murder of her biochemist mother, the destruction of her family, and a global epidemic."
What's intriguing is that a beloved character from the original series is staging a comeback to guide this young woman on her pathway to exact revenge.
As for which character that is, we don't know yet. Given that there were rumblings that a spin-off series featuring Gabriel Mann's Nolan Ross, then...

ABC is in development on a follow up to the drama series “Revenge,” Variety has confirmed.

This Sunday on The CW, Batwoman had her coming out party — but what exactly pushed Kate to officially introduce Gotham to (as Vesper Fairchild put it) the “curvier, sexier” Batman?
What was by far the best of the freshman series’ nascent season had several different elements going on, each quite entertaining in its own right. An extraordinarily short visit from Tommy Elliot reminds Gotham that Alice isn’t the only villain while Kate Kane contends with the reality that she has unleashed an entire city’s worth of hope, and she’s not so sure she can live up to it. Meanwhile, Sophie works Mary for intel on her ex in a winning b-plot and Alice terrorizes the Hamilton-Kane residence.
First: Hush. I could’ve done without the wall references and “Make Gotham Safe Again” rhetoric surrounding Tommy Elliot, but other than those lines, he largely felt like his own villain rather than a Trump sendup. Just last night, The CW kicked off its fall season with the premieres of both Batwoman and Supergirl. Though the latter had its moments, I was ultimately lukewarm toward it. When it came to the Kate Kane’s big debut, however, I was satisfied for the most part. The pilot wasn’t perfect, don’t get me wrong, but it was far from being a stinker.
From here, I believe (and hope) that Batwoman will only continue improving upon the foundation already laid. After all, it’s not often that pilot episodes are the best offerings in inaugural seasons, so I’m remaining very optimistic. I think one would have to try to fail with this show.
If anything should get DC fans hyped for what’s on the horizon, that’ll be the live action debut of Hush set to occur in just under two weeks. Though a teenage...

If you’re going to do right by DC Comics’ “Crisis on Infinite Earths” saga, you need the Monitor, yes. But you also need a Harbinger at his side. And now, it has been confirmed that Lyla Michaels, a character who has been played on Arrow over the years by Audrey Marie Anderson, will fill that role in the Arrowverse‘s next, five-part crossover.
We say “confirmed” because while it did seem that Oliver Queen, in fulfilling his deal with the Monitor, might serve as an ersatz Harbinger, the fact is that in the comic books Lyla Michaels became Harbinger,...

Jughead is switching schools this season on Riverdale… and maybe there’ll be fewer murders at this one? (Ah, who are we kidding? Probably not.)
TVLine has an exclusive first look at Season 4’s third episode — airing Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 8/7c on The CW — which finds Jughead getting acclimated at his new high school, the tony Stonewall Prep. And it does look a lot snootier than Riverdale High, based on these photos. Look, Jughead is forced to wear a collared shirt! (Although he still gets to wear his signature beanie, thank goodness.)

Gabriel Mann is probably best known for his wild big-band theme (“Hey Hey!”) for ABC’s hit comedy “Modern Family.” But during the 2018-19 television season he spent most of his time on ABC’s “A Million Little Things,” the hourlong drama about friends who re-examine their lives in the aftermath of an unexpected suicide. It is a series that draws on all of his skills, from composing to singing and songwriting to music producing.
How did you come to work on “A Million Little Things”?
I had worked with the [pilot] director, James Griffiths, on a show called “The Mayor.” I had an idea based on the script: There’s a guitar player in it, so I thought the score should be guitar-based.I was really anxious to work on it because I felt like I could really make a difference. This was really in my wheelhouse.
The opening scene is a critical setup.
