CANNES -- Starbucks Entertainment president Ken Lombard breezed into MidemNet, the annual music industry gathering, here Saturday to speak of the pleasures of mixing melodies with a great cup of coffee. The former president of Magic Johnson's Johnson Development Corp. has overseen the Starbucks move into the music business by selling CDs at its coffee houses starting with a Ray Charles album and going on to exclusive offerings from artists including Bob Dylan. With coffee drinkers stopping in an average of 18 times a month, Lombard said Starbucks is "the most frequently visited retailer in the world," and therefore a perfect place to be in harmony with music. So it has proved, with as many as 20 albums available for sale in most of the chain's outlets.
