Netflix unveils their 2024 film line-up, the long list includes Beverly Hills Cop 4 and Rebel Moon 2
The Netflix streaming service has just unveiled their 2024 line-up of film and TV show releases – and the list is so long, we’ve had to split it into two separate articles. While the TV show line-up can be found in another article here on JoBlo.com, in this one we’re focusing on the films Netflix will be releasing, including the long-awaited fourth entry in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, a sequel to The Platform, a time travel slasher movie, Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, an animated film scripted by Charlie Kaufman, Zack Snyder’s second Rebel Moon movie, and much more.
Here we go, with thanks to Deadline:
Orion And The Dark (Feb 2)

The new year is here. Valentine’s Day is coming up, and Netflix has unveiled new details about their upcoming romantic comedy, Players, which also includes some first-look pictures. The cast of the new comedy features an ensemble that includes Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr., Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, Marin Hinkle and Tom Ellis. The movie follows in the tradition of films like Wedding Crashers, where a group of friends have perfected the process of meeting strangers for one-night stands and the complications that can arise from that.
The official synopsis from Netflix reads,
“New York sportswriter Mack (Gina Rodriguez) has spent years devising successful hook-up “plays” with best friend Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.) and their crew. While it has led to countless one-night stands over the years, following their playbook comes with a strict set of ground rules — chief among them: you can’t build a relationship from a play.

Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to “His Three Daughters,” starring Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen and Carrie Coon, following its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
Netflix had no comment on terms of the deal, which is reported to be for just under $7 million.
Written, directed and edited by Azazel Jacobs, the film presents a tense, captivating, and touching portrait of family dynamics with Lyonne, Olsen and Coon starring as sisters who converge after their father’s health declines.
In his review, Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman praised the drama as “funny, moving and true,” with its trio of lead actors delivering “superb” performances that “work together like a piece of chamber music.”
He wrote: “The film is a finely observed, winningly unsentimental memory play about three adult sisters who have come together to take care of their father, who is dying of cancer and approaching his final days.

Netflix has acquired Azazel Jacobs’ sisterhood drama His Three Daughters, which stars Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen and Natasha Lyonne and bowed at the Toronto Film Festival.
The trio play estranged sisters forced to reunite when their father becomes seriously ill. The family drama sees the sisters converge as their father’s health steadily declines.
The deal, with a price tag north of $6 million, according to sources, represents Netflix’s third acquisition out of Toronto after the streaming giant picked up Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, Woman of the Hour, for around $11 million after a world premiere at the festival. Netflix also nabbed the worldwide rights to Lucy Walker’s documentary Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa after it was presented as a work-in-progress screening at TIFF.
After Toronto Netflix also paid around $20 million for the Richard Linklater-directed Hit Man, which bowed in Venice and stars Glen Powell and Adria Arjona.

Eric Lavallee: Name me three of your favorite “2014 discoveries” …
Sophia Lin: Top of the list of my 2014 discoveries was New Zealand. We filmed Z for Zachariah on the Banks Peninsula, outside Christchurch on the South Island. It was an amazing months-long adventure that was incredibly challenging but gratifying. We made wonderful new friends while working amidst some of the greatest landscape in the world and got just a new perspective on everything. Another discovery is that I realized I could probably live in Los Angeles, which was a total surprise! I did a short television job there over the summer, and it was by far the longest I had spent there. It was interesting to realize living there could be an option. And finally, my third discovery is tied between Guardians of the Galaxy and Taylor Swift. I really got in touch with my teen-aged populist side this year,...

We can still feel the heat generated from Craig Zobel’s Compliance. His sophomore film, which was made on a dime (his directorial debut Great World of Sound was made for a nickel and was also showcased at Sundance), got under the skin of select imbecile auds at its Park City premiere, but in the same token it intellectually tickled the critical masses. Adept in human discord in its purest form, this quality surely got infused on his third directing outing, Z for Zachariah, which is large scale humanity in crisis. For the past twelve years, the Independent Spirit Awards have been held the night before the Oscars, and although the two sets of nominees sometimes overlap, traditionally the Spirit Awards end up honouring most of the films that the Academy ignores. This year things might be a little bit different, however, as Michel Hazanavicius' The Artist ended up taking home a handful of the major Spirit Awards including Best Feature, Best Director and Best Male Lead. As far as I know, the Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards have only picked the same Best Picture once before: Oliver Stone's Platoon in 1986. Christopher Plummer also won for Best Supporting Male, while Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn) won for Best Female Lead. Is this all a sign of what's to come tomorrow night? There are at least a few Spirit Award winners who won't be repeating at the Academy...

Park City, Ut – January 28, 2012– The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today they have acquired Us rights to Compliance, a harrowing thriller from writer/director Craig Zobel, that bowed last week at the Sundance Film Festival to controversy and critical acclaim. Magnolia previously collaborated with Zobel on Great World of Sound, which premiered at Sundance in 2007. Compliance was produced by Sophia Lin, Lisa Muskat, Tyler Davidson, Theo Sena and Zobel. The deal was negotiated for Magnolia by Svp of Acquisitions Dori Begley with John Sloss and Dana O’Keefe of Cinetic Media. Magnolia is planning a theatrical release later this year. Based on astonishing true events, Compliance is the story of Sandra (Ann Dowd), an overworked manager at a fast food restaurant, who receives a call from a police officer accusing one of her employees, a teenage girl named Becky (Dreama Walker), of stealing from a customer. Taking the officer at his word,...

The week has barely started and already we have some great Austin film news to share.
Congratulations this morning to Austin filmmaker Heather Courtney. Her documentary Where Soldiers Come From, which premiered at SXSW 2011 (my review), won the Truer Than Fiction award at the Film Independent grant award and nominees brunch on Saturday. Courtney gets a $25,000 grant as part of the award. Take Shelter, directed by Austinite Jeff Nichols, was also honored on Saturday -- producer Sophia Lin won the Piaget Producers Award. Austinist reports that the movie has been edited and repackaged into episodic chapters that you can watch on an iPad. The first 15-minute "chapter" is free,...
