Screen Media is making the Tony Hale comedy “Eat Wheaties!” a part of its balanced breakfast and has acquired the U.S. rights to the film. The distributor is planning a release in theaters and on demand April 30.
“Eat Wheaties!” is directed by Scott Abramovitch and stars Hale as Sid Straw, a man who desperately tries to prove that he knows a celebrity — in this case, Elizabeth Banks — only for his creepy messages to her to go viral and get him banned from his college reunion. With his life at a crossroads, he sets out to rediscover the best version of himself and hires an inexperienced lawyer to help clear his name.
The story is an adaptation of a 2003 novel by Michael Kun called “The Locklear Letters,” but is modernized for the social media era (and updated from celebrity Heather Locklear). “Eat Wheaties!” also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Danielle Brooks,...

Judy Greer is set as the female lead opposite Nat Faxon in FX‘s untitled Andrew Gurland comedy pilot. The half-hour comedy is about the lengths to which two best friends are willing to go to salvage their marriage. Lina Bowman (Greer) and her husband Russ Bowman (Faxon) get along great in every room except the bedroom. Living in a new city with no friends, and overwhelmed by her three young daughters, at the end of the day Lina would rather curl up with vampire fan fiction than her always-horny husband. In order to save their otherwise great marriage and family, she gives her husband permission to take care of his needs elsewhere. Gurland, who wrote the script, will also direct and executive produce alongside Paul Young and Peter Principato. Salamo Levin serves as a producer. The pilot will be produced by FX Prods and will shoot this summer in Los Angeles.

Exclusive: Nat Faxon has been tapped as the lead in FX‘s untitled comedy pilot by filmmaker Andrew Gurland. The project, produced by FX Prods, centers on a married man (Faxon) and his wife, who are best friends and determined to shake things up in order to save their marriage. Gurland wrote the script and will direct. Following his breakout starring role on Fox’s Ben & Kate, Faxon was in high demand this pilot season, fielding multiple offers. But the actor-writer, who won an Oscar last year for co-penning The Descendants, didn’t want to commit to a broadcast series full-time because of his projects on the feature side, where he also is looking to direct. (He filmed a guest starring/potential recurring gig on ABC’s comedy pilot Spy). A cable series is generally far more accommodating for thesps with busy feature careers. The Gurland pilot is executive produced by Gurland,...

It centers on a married man who is given permission by his wife to get a mistress in order to save their marriage. Gurland wrote the script and will direct. He is executive producing with Paul Young and Peter Principato. Salamo Levin will serve as a producer. The pilot will be produced by FX Prods., which makes all FX comedy series. FX has several comedy pilots — live-action and animated — in various stages of production as the cable network is looking to launch three new half-hour series in the next fiscal year. FX’s current comedy series roster includes Louie, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Wilfred, The League, Archer, and the latest addition,...
