The 39th annual Razzie Awards hat-tipping the year’s not-so-great in movies are in, with Sony’s Sherlock Holmes parody Holmes & Watson, Melissa McCarthy’s turns in two movies not her Oscar-nominated one in Can You Ever Forgive Me? and even President Donald Trump among those getting dinged by the group.
Holmes & Watson, which bowed in December, was especially razzed, named the year’s Worst Picture, Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel, Worst Director for Etan Cohen and Worst Supporting Actor for John C. Reilly.
Star Will Ferrell apparently was snubbed by Trump, who took Worst Actor for playing himself in archival footage of documentaries Death of a Nation and Fahrenheit 11/9. Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway also got swiped in this year’s final voting.
The Razzies did note McCarthy’s Oscar-nominated performance in Fox Searchlight’s Can You Ever Forgive Me? with the Razzie Redeemer Award.

Donald Trump, Melissa McCarthy and Holmes & Watson were the big “winners” at the 39th annual Razzie Awards, which celebrated Hollywood’s worst films and performances of 2018.
Holmes & Watson, the Sherlock spoof starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, took home four Golden Raspberries, including Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actor (Reilly), Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel and Worst Director.
“Our next winner has said of himself, ‘My whole life is about winning, I don’t lose often, I almost never lose, I don’t like losers.’ So not surprisingly, he won.

“Holmes & Watson,” the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly buddy comedy, “won” the Worst Picture award at the 39th Annual Razzie Awards.
The film also picked up the Golden Raspberry, or the “$4.97 Trophy,” in three other categories, including John C. Reilly for Worst Supporting Actor, Etan Cohen for Worst Director and the prize for Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel.
President Donald Trump won a pair of awards from the Razzies for his likeness appearing in two documentaries, Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 11/9” and “Death of a Nation” from Dinesh D’Souza, including Worst Actor and Worst Screen Combo, paired with his “self-perpetuating pettiness.” Kellyanne Conway won the prize for Worst Supporting Actress for “Fahrenheit 11/9.”

The Golden Raspberry Awards have announced their nominations for the worst films of 2018. John Travolta’s Gotti, Holmes & Watson, and The Happytime Murders all got six noms. Robin Hood and Winchester also made the nomination list of Worst Picture. I’ve got to say, though, that I actually liked Winchester! It wasn’t a great movie, but I still enjoyed it, and it certainly wasn’t one of the worst.

Gotti, The Happytime Murders, Holmes & Watson and Dinesh D’Souza’s documentary Death of a Nation tied for the most nominations for the Razzie Awards, the annual generally mean-spirited anti-Oscar list of the year’s worst movies.
Nominations in a total of 10 categories were unveiled Monday, with even Donald Trump (for his screen time in both Death of a Nation and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 11/9) and Kellyanne Conway (Fahrenheit 11/9) earning mentions.
The Worst Picture race this year features Gotti, The Happytime Murders and Holmes & Watson (all of which had six noms to lead the way with Nation), as well as Robin Hood and Winchester. Last year, The Emoji Movie “won” the category.
Winners as such for this year will revealed next month per usual on the day before the Oscars.

Chicago – Only masochists and other gluttons for punishment will be heading to the theaters for “Fifty Shades Freed.” But be sure to grab a blindfold, because you can at least get 40 winks while the incompetent and unintentionally hilarious Fifty Shades Trilogy reaches its deadly dull climax.
Rating: 1.5/5.0
In this final chapter audiences are finally “freed” from this franchise, which comes as a relief not just to me, but also (none too soon) for the actors involved. Over three films of S&M softcore sex, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have all the chemistry of two people on a first date that won’t get to first base. They’re now Mr. & Mrs. Grey, and Johnson’s Anastasia has developed a spine to occasionally stand up to her bad boy billionaire husband, Dornan’s Christian.
”Fifty Shades Freed” opens everywhere on February 9th. Featuring Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Eric Johnson, Marcia Gay Harden and Kim Basinger.

They’re baaa-aaaack! Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, that is. Every year around Valentine’s Day, Universal has been shrewdly serving up another chapter of the pair’s steamy, kinky relationship, and it all comes to an end now with the third installment of the cinematic adaptation of E L James’ publishing phenomenon. Of course none of these movies looks much different, and Fifty Shades Freed — again from a screenplay by Niall Leonard and direction by James Foley…...

What timing! In the era of #MeToo and #Time's Up, it hardly seems like the moment for a movie about a woman who does the sexual bidding of a powerful rich dude. (Though it might be just the ticket on whatever island Harvey Weinstein, Louis C.K., James Toback, Jeremy Piven and other accused male predators are hiding out on.) Audiences are in for two hours of cruel and unusual punishment, even as the third and blessedly final chapter in the film trilogy based on E.L. James' bestselling bucket of...

The third film sired from author E.L. James’ original “Fifty Shades” trilogy arrives in theaters Friday, and critics are largely miffed that Universal Pictures opted for such a conventional closure. “Fifty Shades Freed” begins with the marriage of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), the billionaire who introduced her to Bdsm. IndieWire was kinder than most, giving chapter three a B.
“Because Ana and Christian have already reached their happy equilibrium together, returning director James Foley and screenwriter Niall Leonard must mine exterior sources of dramatic strain,” writes Screen Daily. Thus the narrative of their sexual power struggle is supplanted by thrown punches, racing sports cars, and even a kidnapping subplot. Still, reviewers were often disenchanted that the Greys have become just another procreating couple occupied with household concerns.

But all of that will come to an end soon, as Freed will close the book on Christian and Anastasia’s story. Following the events of Fifty Shades Darker, the couple are now married, but all is not perfect, as Ana’s “threatened when her former boss, Jack Hyde, swears revenge for being fired from Sip. Elena also returns to haunt Christian and makes their lives a lot more troublesome.”
As for this first trailer, it’s more of what you’d expect from the franchise.

I loath this Fifty Shades franchise. I didn't even realize that there was going to be a third film until this teaser trailer for it popped up. The movie is called Fifty Shades Freed and It looks like the two main characters, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, are getting married. That obviously means Anastasia has to be kidnapped.
I'm sure the latest sequel will be filled with more of the laughably terrible dialogue that these movies excel at. Screen Junkies has done a great job of highlighting the ridiculousness of that dialogue and the story that these films tell. You can watch those here and here.
Anyway, if you have any interest in seeing what is to come, you can watch the trailer below.

Whilst the Fifty Shades bubble has hardly burst, it was notable that the box office take for this year’s Fifty Shades Darker was notably down on that for Fifty Shades Of Grey. The trailer begins with Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) and Grey (Jamie Dornan) pulling over next to a private jet at an airport. “Do you own this?’ Anastasia asks. “We own this,” Grey replies. The teaser then shows viewers several snippets of the couple’s honeymoon in Europe, including a kiss with the Eiffel Tower as backdrop and a beach scene, where Grey shows off his toned body. The film is directed by James Foley from a screenplay by Niall Leonard. The cast also includes Rita Ora, Kim Basinger and Tyler Hoechlin.

Chicago – While offering a veritable sex scene smorgasboard, “Fifty Shades Darker” fails to offer much in the way of anything that is actually sexy. As the mousy Anastasia Steele and the billionaire Mr. Grey, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are slightly more comfortable in their roles than they were the first time around.
..but they continue to have all the sexual chemistry of a couple on a first date that isn’t going particularly well. And that’s a problem, since sexual chemistry and S&M is what this housewife fantasy series is all about.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
As we begin the second installment of the Fifty Shades trilogy, Anastasia has left her dominating lover and is starting a new life in that favorite industry of screenwriters everywhere, publishing. But Mr. Grey has not gone quietly into the good night. He follows her, has private detectives create a dossier on her, gets her bank account information,...

This Valentine’s weekend our favourite brooding, hard-bodied billionaire returns to the big screen with a brand new adventure. You may read our 4 star Batman review here. Unfortunately we need to speak of Fifty Shades Darker.
The last time we saw Anastasia Steele she was walking away from her abuser. Escaping with tear stains on her cheeks but a new resolve in her heart to never let that mercurial Christian Grey close enough to hurt her again. HeyUGuys had the same reaction when we read the Fifty Shades novels. Never again would we endure such pain. Yet here we are.
Sam Taylor-Johnson did an impressive job of helming Fifty Shades of Grey. Taking E L James’ preposterous and childish source material and (together with screenwriter Kelly Marcel) crafting something pleasing on the eye and inoffensive to the soul. When her Anastasia said goodbye there was a triumphant...

Fifty Shades Dumber is more like it. In our shockingly generous one-star review of Fifty Shades of Grey in 2015, we dismissed the film version of E.L. James' bestseller as Cinderella porn – an S&M fantasy so sanitized it couldn't shock Aunt Tillie. Now here's the followup, again with Dakota Johnson, again vainly trying to have fun as Anastasia Steele. She's is no longer a virginal English major, but a magazine intern with a head for literature and a bod for sin. As you remember, Ana has parted ways with...

If director Sam Taylor-Johnson and screenwriter Kelly Marcel elevated Fifty Shades of Grey above E.L. James' original material, the sequel makes a strong argument for why we shouldn't have nice things.
Fifty Shades Darker begins shortly after the elevator doors closed at the end of Fifty Shades of Grey, abruptly ending both the film and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey's (Jamie Dornan) relationship. ("Relationship.") But after a few weeks of heartbroken pining, Ana is easily wooed back to Seattle's wealthiest sadist, this time, supposedly, for an actual relationship with "no rules, no punishments and no more secrets."
Watch: Dakota Johnson Reveals 'Fifty Shades Darker' Has a 'Surprise' Tribute to Mom Melanie Griffith

Darker is funnier than Grey, and mostly intentionally so. The movie gets good mileage out of Christian Grey performing boyfriend duties, like grocery shopping and cooking and not flogging his girlfriend. Contrary to the title's promise of darkness, it starts...

Oh, Fifty Shades Darker. It’s impossible to fantasize about what could have been. Foundations for an erotic trashterpiece are laid, but director James Foley doesn’t understand camp sensibilities. With someone like Rob Cohen in charge (The Boy Next Door, anyone?), all those flatlining dramatics and misplaced jokes would gel together. Fluid sensuality with spanking, oils and cuffs, dictated by a sadist who gets off on punishing mommy lookalikes (hawt). Instead, Foley’s tonal jerkiness kills the mood like an awkward boner, shocking this dominating system with unexpected diversions.
Oh, but this is the relationshippy Fifty Shades entry. Right. Christian Grey (A Bucket Of Dry Cement Jamie Dornan) cannot live another day with Anastasia (Dakota Johnson), so he opens contract negotiations. No punishments, no rules, and no secrets. Ana doesn’t take much convincing, and their relationship blossoms under the new respectful boundaries. Sexual desires become less whippy, but something still isn’t right.

Don’t let that title fool you: The second entry in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” cinematic trilogy is by no means a darker outing than its predecessor, and the franchise (already set to wrap up with a third feature in 2018) is all the better for it. Whipping up a proper tone for the big screen versions of E.L. James’ wildly popular novels was always going to be the films’ biggest problem, and while director James Foley might not quite nail it, wily injections of humor prove to be an unexpectedly helpful addition to the kinky franchise.
Picking up mere days after the events of Sam Taylor-Johnson’s 2015 “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Foley’s film quickly shifts gears away from the doom and gloom of the first film to give audiences something sexier, sillier and a fair bit soapier. After gliding through a series of literally tattered childhood memories that...

"Darker"? James Foley's Fifty Shades Darker, the second big-screen outing adapting E.L. James's best-selling S&M fairy tale, goes rather in the other direction, replacing most of the first installment's talk of master/servant dynamics and contractually delineated sex play with more lovey-dovey hoohah than most self-respecting rom-coms are willing to deliver. Taking the series over from Sam Taylor-Johnson, whose 2015 Fifty Shades of Grey earned jeers alongside its $570-mil worldwide haul, Foley has the job of introducing some external threats to the unlikely coupling of Dakota Johnson's Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan's Christian Grey. But he and screenwriter Niall Leonard can...

Time to batten down the hatches and hide the booze, theater owners: We’re only a little more than a month away from the release (pun completely intended) of the second film in the not-quite-softcore series of Fifty Shades Of Grey films. Based on the book by E.L. James—whose husband, novelist Niall Leonard, wrote the screenplay—Fifty Shades Darker seems to focus less on whips and chains and more on the emotional component of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey’s (Jamie Dornan) newly rekindled relationship.
However, underneath all the passionate lovemaking in an elevator (and the shower, and then another shower), there’s something sinister afoot—and we don’t mean Dakota Johnson’s bizarre line delivery on the word “hungry.” More like stalkers with guns and helicopter crashes.
Fifty Shades Darker opens on February 10.

One of the most anticipated sequels out this year is James Foley’s follow-up to Sam Taylor-Johnson’s knee-trembler Fifty Shades of Grey starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. On Valentine’s Day we’re in for a deeper tone of love and pain with Fifty Shades Darker, and a new trailer has made its way out into the wild today.
Following the much-hyped first film Johnson made quite an impression in Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash while Dornan continued his terrifying role in The Fall on the BBC with Gillian Anderson and the World War II drama Anthropoid with Cillian Murphy. With a fandom to rival that of Messrs. Potter and Everdeen the Fifty Shades bandwagon keeps on rolling, and all eyes will be on the latest installment to see how the peptic chemistry between the two leads has evolved.

Update: Another new trailer was released earlier tonight and can be seen embedded below.
Fifty Shades of Grey may have been a commercial success, scoring a cool $571 million at the worldwide box office, but it certainly wasn’t an enjoyable watch. Despite mostly getting a critical lashing, Fifty Shades of Grey became one of the biggest successes of last year, racking up nearly $600 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. In an attempt to quickly get the follow-ups out before all interest evaporates, they were already shot back-to-back earlier this year, and now we have the debut trailer for the first, Fifty Shades Darker.
Coming from House of Cards director James Foley, this one follows Christian (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) attempting to mend a relationship. Perhaps the best aspect of the first film was the emergence of Johnson as a bonafide talent, so if a sequel doesn’t sound appealing, we’d recommend just seeking out this summer’s A Bigger Splash instead.
Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Hugh Dancy, Eric Johnson, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Bella Heathcote,...

It’s no secret things get kinky in Fifty Shades Darker, the sequel to last year’s (punishing) Bdsm romance, but it looks like they might also get more than a little hairy. According to TheWrap, Teen Wolf actor Tyler Hoechlin is coming aboard the Universal pic, taking on the supporting role of (no joke) Boyce Fox, who works with Anastasia Steele (star Dakota Johnson) at a publishing company.
Hoechlin, who plays Derek Hale on MTV’s Teen Wolf, is on the cusp of a Hollywood breakthrough, with roles in the spy actioner Stratton (which stars Dominic Cooper) and Richard Linklater’s college comedy Everybody Wants Some both in the can. Fifty Shades Darker will be his first bona fide blockbuster title – though his role, beefed up significantly from a heard-but-not-seen figure in the books, still seems somewhat fleeting.
Casting has been steadily taking place on the slightly delayed Fifty Shades of Grey follow-up,...
