- Son of Dame Maggie Smith and the late Sir Robert Stephens.
- His parents initially thought they were expecting a girl and so had selected the name Daisy for when their "daughter" arrived. When Larkin's own daughter was born in 2006 he named her Daisy as a tribute to this anecdote.
