Randy Travis, who lost much of his speech in a 2013 stroke, used artificial intelligence technology to clone his voice for his first recording in more than a decade.
Travis, his longtime producer Kyle Lehning, Travis’s wife Mary, and Warner Music Nashville co-chair and co-president Cris Lacy spoke with CBS Sunday Morning to detail how AI helped create “Where That Came From,” Travis’s new song that released on Friday. The full report will air Sunday.
Lehning confirmed that another singer performed the initial vocals before overlaying the raw performance with Travis’s voice clone.

Peacock has released some of the first images of Apples Never Fall, Peacock’s upcoming limited series based on Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers author Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel. Annette Bening and Sam Neill lead the cast, along with Alison Brie, Jake Lacy, Conor Merrigan-Turner and Essie Randles. The series is set to release on the streamer in March.
From writer-showrunner Melanie Marnich and Universal International Studios’ Heyday Television, Apples Never Fall centers on the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family. Former tennis coaches Stan (Neill) and Joy (Bening) have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives. While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children, everything changes when a wounded young woman knocks on Joy and Stan’s door, bringing the excitement they’ve been missing. Sydney – Monday 6 November, 2023. The Sydney Opera House today announced two electrifying contemporary music events over summer with genre-raiding psych-rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra making their Concert Hall debut on January 30, and alternative R&b star Steve Lacy performing two shows in-the-round on 31 January and 1 February 2024.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s (Umo) appearance follows the March release of their definitive fifth album, V – an exquisite collection of songs that evokes the 70s rock and 80s pop of frontman Ruban Nielson’s childhood, while exploring love, loss and his Hawaiian heritage. The album makes a strong case for itself as his sun-bleached masterpiece, earning a 4.5 star review from Uncut and a place on The Guardian’s ‘best albums of 2023 so far’ list.
Umo initially achieved runaway success following the covert release of an anonymously penned track, ‘Ffunny Ffriends’, on Band Camp (2011). They’d go on to release five albums over the next 12 years, each...

Playwright Annie Baker has developed a distinctive style in which silences often speak louder than words, the words themselves mean more than what’s actually said, and routine conversations and events have the power of earth-shattering revelations. It’s an approach to drama that demands us to pay close attention to every line of dialogue and every flicker of emotion on an actor’s face, lest we miss crucial details. In some ways, that’s a deeply cinematic approach to dramaturgy, recalling the economy of Robert Bresson and Harold Pinter’s work, except that Baker’s is far more emotionally immediate.
The plot of Baker’s quiet and often moving feature directorial debut, Janet Planet, details the bond between 11-year-old Lacy (Zoe Ziegler) and her acupuncturist mother, Janet (Julianne Nicholson), in rural Western Massachusetts in the summer of 1991 just before Lacy enters the sixth grade. The closest that the film...

Olivia Rodrigo cares about what other people think. It's one of the common threads that runs through her sophomore album, "Guts," which was released on Sept. 8.
Her candor about the agony of constantly comparing herself to others is part of what makes the album so relatable. In an era where tallies of likes, streams, views, and shares are constantly broadcast and women, in particular, are bombarded with messaging that tells them they must have perfect looks, minds, and relationships while also being completely confident and loving themselves, it's hard to fully avoid feeling less than.
That tangle of contradictions is the heart of the opening track, "All-American B*tch," which explores the myriad contradictions women are faced with - be demure yet confident, humble yet fearless, sexy yet sweet. "I don't get angry when I'm pissed, I'm the eternal optimist / I scream inside to deal with it," Rodrigo sings, setting the tone for the album.

Olivia Rodrigo knocked it out of the park on her first try, with her instant classic of a debut, Sour. So expectations have been sky-high for her next move. But the suspense is over: Her excellent new Guts is another instant classic, with her most ambitious, intimate, and messy songs yet. Olivia’s pop-punk bangers are full of killer lines (“I wanna meet your mom, just to tell her her son sucks”), but she pushes deeper in powerful ballads like “Logical.” All over Guts, she’s so witty, so pissed off,...

Legendary filmmaker William Friedkin is sadly no longer with us, but audiences across the globe can expect to watch his very last writing/directing effort in just a few weeks. /Film previously reported that Friedkin's next and last project would be "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial," based on writer Herman Wouk's 1952 book (which he later turned into a stage play) and the second major adaptation of the story on the big screen following the Humphrey Bogart-starring film in 1954. Scheduled to premiere at this year's Venice Film Festival, Paramount has just announced that the film will be made available on Paramount+ streaming in October -- for those subscribed to the platform's Showtime plan, that is -- before making its linear debut on Showtime proper a few days later.
For those unfamiliar with the story, "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" is centered on a naval court-martial case involving a mutiny at sea.

"The Expendables" franchise has — smartly — allowed its titular roster of tough, never-say-die mercenaries to include women, as demonstrated by 2014's "The Expendables 3" adding Ronda Rousey to the crew and the upcoming "Expend4bles" (type that five times fast) bringing in Megan Fox and Levy Tran.
However, while making the first "Expendables" back in 2010, that wasn't quite the case. That film only features two female characters: Lacy (Charisma Carpenter), the cheating girlfriend of Jason Statham's Lee Christmas, and Sandra (Giselle Itié), the daughter of a South American dictator who wants to use the Expendables to help overthrow her father and his ex-CIA puppet master, Munroe (Eric Roberts).
Although Sandra is an integral part of the film, she's no trained mercenary, and ends up being captured by the bad guys and tortured for information. It must've been difficult for the Brazilian actress to deal with the atmosphere of testosterone-fueled competition surrounding her,...

The plan was for renowned director William Friedkin to be appearing at the Venice Film Festival presenting the out of competition World Premiere of his latest production, an adaptation of Herman Wouk’s 1954 play The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial. Unfortunately Friedkin died August 7th, but the show goes on anyway.
What Venice witnessed is a solid, no-frills, new film that Friedkin had said he always wanted to make. While it won’t stand on the same level of some of its director’s most vividly great achievements like his Oscar winning The French Connection, horror classic The Exorcist, or underrated (at the time at least) and ambitious Sorcerer, this version which he also adapted himself is a welcome addition to his filmography.
Often staged beginning on Broadway in 1954 with Henry Fonda and a star cast, it has gone through many other theatrical and television productions over the years, and of course...
