Long-time weather forecaster Mark Kriski is recovering following a medical episode earlier this week, his employer said on Wednesday.
Kriski suffered from a mild stroke while at his Los Angeles-area home on Monday, Ktla reported.
“Mark checked in with us earlier on Wednesday, and we’re happy to report that he’s in good spirits,” a Ktla spokesperson said on Wednesday. “He also wanted to thank everyone who has reached out.”
Kriski joined Ktla in 1991, serving as the news outlet’s morning weather forecaster. That same year, entertainment correspondent Sam Rubin was hired to work alongside Kriski. Rubin died from a heart attack earlier this month.
Kriski remains hospitalized, but is recovering from his stroke, according to TMZ. Kriski’s spouse, Ktla reporter Jennifer Gould, said he was “communicative, joking around and, generally, in good spirits,” TMZ reported.

The tight-knit crew at Ktla got some more tough news this week with the revelation that the station’s longtime weatherman, Mark Kriski, has suffered a mild stroke. The news comes after station staff were devastated by the news earlier this month that beloved entertainment reporter Sam Rubin had died of a heart attack.
In a post to social media Ktla said Kriski’s stroke had happened earlier this week, but noted that “he’s in good spirits…and looks forward to being back with the team soon.”
The station also made a brief announcement on air about his condition.
Kriski’s wife told TMZ that he had the stroke early Monday and was hospitalized.
He joined the Ktla Morning News in 1991 and, according to his official bio, is “one of the last-remaining original ‘characters’ from the show’s inception.” He is a nine-time Emmy winner, has appeared as a...

Over the nine years that I’ve been contributing to Ktla-tv in Los Angeles, I’ve been asked the same question over and over again by people who recognized me from the channel: “What is Sam Rubin really like?” The short answer is simple: With Sam, what you saw was what you got. As exuberant, enthusiastic and charming as he was on camera, that’s exactly how he was in person too.
And what a talented professional. After 33 years as the face of entertainment news for Ktla, he had the job down, and you could tell how much he loved doing it. He maintained the same level of gleeful energy from his first daily news hit at 6:15 a.m. to his last at 10:45 a.m. — and when I would see him later in the day at screenings, junkets, premieres and awards shows, he was still going strong. I...

During an appearance on Ktla 5 Morning News on Thursday, comedian Kathy Griffin had a tense exchange with Ktla 5 weatherman Mark Kriski about the representation of women in comedy.
As Griffin was discussing the fallout to her now-infamous Trump photo with Ktla anchor Sam Rubin, she admitted that her career has continued to take a hit.
“By the way, I still do not have one single day of paid work ahead of me for the rest of my life,” she said. “Now you tell me that’s not because I’m a 58-year-old female in comedy.”
“I think there’s a lot of 58-year-old comedians that are working out there,” Kriski, sitting at the other end of the anchors’ desk, said.
“Are you? Name five women,” Griffin responded.
“Uh, I’m not into the comedy thing,” Kriski responded.
