The man funding Lance Bass' space mission has hit out at reports claiming the singer has missed a payment deadline. The 'N Sync hunk is due to blast off in October on a mission to the International Space Station. But reports yesterday suggested Bass may be left behind by the Russian Space Agency, because he had failed to deliver the first installment of the $20 million fee for his trip. Agency spokesman Sergei Gorbunov says, "His backers have sent us a letter asking us to set back the deadline to August 9. If they do not pay up then, I don't know what will happen. Maybe we will follow their wishes and wait again. But we cannot wait forever." The funding for the trip - which will make Lance the youngest person to ever travel into space - is being provided by Hollywood executive David Krieff's Destiny Productions, which hopes to film the journey for a TV series. And Krieff has angrily denied reports of missed deadlines, even dubbing Gorbunov an "idiot." Krieff says, "We're moving forward. We're excited about it. We are meeting and have met every obligation, and we will continue to meet every obligation, of our contract. The problems that are started on their side because of big mouths, that's another situation." This idiot at the Russian space agency is making a fool of himself." A representative for the "Girlfriend" hitmaker also insists Bass is still on course for the planned October take-off, He says, "We're planning for a launch," and adds that Lance "wouldn't be working his a** off if he wasn't going."...
