His book for the musical, High Society, was performed at the Open Air
Theatre and was nominated for a 2004 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for
Outstanding Musical Production of 2003.
Was twice nominated for Broadway's Tony Award as author of a Best Play
nominee: in 1970 for "Indians" and in 1979 for "Wings." He was also
nominated in 1982 as Best Book (Musical) for "Nine."

He took his stepfather's surname; it is pronounced "COPE-it".
He was the son of Maxine (Dubin), a millinery model, and Henry Koenig, an advertising salesman.
