- Wolfgang Kohlhaase was born on March 13, 1931 in Berlin, Germany. He was a writer and director, known for Solo Sunny (1980), The Break (1989) and Sommer vorm Balkon (2005). He was married to Emöke Pöstenyi. He died on October 5, 2022 in Berlin, Germany.

- On April 8, 2011 he received the Lola for his life's work from the German Film Academy. In his acceptance speech he said: "I am not only delighted but also encouraged. And you need that at any age.".
- From 1952 Kohlhaase was a freelance screenwriter and author.
- He began writing while still at school and became a volunteer and editor at the youth magazine Start in 1947. A copy of Start with an article by Kohlhaase also reached the Soviet prisoner-of-war camp where Kohlhaase senior was in 1947. His father thus rose in prestige with the prison authorities; he received both more food and easier work and was thus able to survive the camp.
