Fans of Stargate Sg-1 and its successors might have mixed feelings about the Roland Emmerich blockbuster that birthed the saga but given the importance of the Goa’uld System Lords to the overarching mythology it’s mind-boggling that... Ra wasn’t intended to be an alien.
The decision was made after Jaye Davidson’s performance threw the plan into jeopardy.
“He had a terrible substance abuse problem and was uninsurable,” explains Devlin.

VFX educator Pam Hogarth and Pixar’s Pete Docter were among the honorees at this year’s Visual Effects Society Honors Celebration.
The in-person ceremony took place on Oct. 14 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, Calif., where Ves members celebrated their colleagues’ achievements and the organization’s 25th anniversary.
Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer best known for directing “Monsters, Inc.,” “Up,” “Inside Out” and “Soul,” received this year’s Honorary Membership.
“It’s been a dream of mine to join Ves without having to pay,” Docter said jokingly in his acceptance speech. “I had one overriding obsession: to sell insurance. But instead, I got a job in animation … To everyone at Pixar, who would’ve dreamt that someday I would be lucky enough to work alongside hundreds of amazingly talented people using the latest cutting-edge technology — all to avoid dealing with real life.”
Docter also acknowledged Pixar president Jim Morris,...

Oh, and did I forget to mention Paramount also invited scores of Academy members to celebrate with Matthew? His family including kids and wife Camila Alves were at the ceremony, and Alves also came...

Marc Davis Celebration of Animation, on Monday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Most fans’ dreams usually come true when they meet their idol. However, for most Shah Rukh Khan fans, their dreams come true when they get a mere glimpse of their idol in person. Plans are in the works for Corkscrew Hill, an animated 3-D stereoscopic theme park ride at Busch Gardens Europe in Williamsburg, Va., to become the basis of a 3-D CG feature film.
Visual effects innovators Jeff Kleiser and Diana Walczak -- who wrote and directed the ride for Busch Entertainment -- have taken the ride idea and extended it to a developed feature-length script. Plans would call for Kleiser and Walczak's Synthespian Studios to produce in partnership with Busch Entertainment. Kleiser and Walczak also would co-direct.
Kleiser and Walczak's visual effects credits include Clear and Present Danger and Stargate. Kleiser's resume also includes work on the 1982 groundbreaking effects film Tron.
"We're a few weeks away from bringing (the script) to Hollywood and passing it around to see if we can find people to help us make it," Kleiser said. "The idea of presenting 3-D stereoscopic feature films is finally going to go mainstream. Jim Cameron, my brother Randal, everyone's talking about going stereo."
The animation for the film would be produced by Synthespian, but Kleiser said the team already is preparing to handle that work at multiple sites, domestic and abroad.
