Stereophonic is now slated to perform at the Tony Awards.
The decision comes amid outcry from fans and the playwright, David Adjmi, himself, after the initial performance lineup was announced and did not include the show. While Stereophonic is a play, it features a score by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, and has been nominated for best score, as well as 12 other Tonys.
Tony producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner had hinted Tuesday that the show may be performing. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the producers were asked if there had been further discussions about them performing.
“There are always discussions that start here and here,” Weiss replied, putting his hands out the length of about a ruler. “There’s a lot of speculation and people forming their own judgments and opinions, and we are trying on our show to represent the season as well as we possibly...

Last year, Tony Awards producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner had the challenge of putting on the live ceremony without a written script, amid the writer’s strike, with the aid of host Ariana DeBose.
This year, the longtime Tonys producers have the benefit of a script and of working again with DeBose, who choreographed the opening number. They also have a new space, with the Tony Awards taking place in the Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater for the first time on June 16, after being held at the United Palace theater in Washington Heights last season and other venues before that.
The change of venues has brought up a certain amount of logistical challenges, and solutions. For example, Weiss, who also serves as director of the ceremony, says the ceremony this year will not have a wall that comes down between production numbers and awards, and instead will...

Oscar winner Ariana DeBose will return to host the 77th Annual Tony Awards, marking her third consecutive year as host. Last year’s Tonys took place during the WGA strike and were carried out without a script. DeBose was more than up to that challenge, so handling the 2024 show should be much less stressful.
In addition to hosting, DeBose will choreograph the awards show’s opening number and serve as producer.
“I couldn’t pass up the chance to host the Tonys one more time at Lincoln Center. I’m excited to collaborate with the team to create an incredible celebration of this season’s achievements on Broadway for our community and for everyone at home,” said DeBose.
The 2024 Tony Awards nominees will be revealed on Tuesday, April 30.

As the Oscars continue to evolve under the watch of Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang, a new trio of executive producers have been tasked with making Hollywood’s biggest night one that millions of viewers will remember.
Though showrunner Raj Kapoor and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” head writer Molly McNearney are no strangers to producing the Academy Awards, having worked on last year’s broadcast, this year Kramer and Yang bypassed 2023 Oscar producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner in favor of their own homegrown team.
“There is no expectation that you continually work on the show, because things change and evolve,” said five-year Oscar show veteran Kapoor to IndieWire during a Zoom joined by his new colleagues. “This is the next evolution, the three of us coming together. We are the trifecta this year.”

Jo Koy will be fine. That was the general consensus at the Golden Globes after-parties, where most agreed that Koy flopped — but he remains a popular talent. The stand-up comedian has two specials coming to Netflix, including one this year that taped last November in Brooklyn. He has millions of fans and is constantly touring, hitting the road once again this weekend and even taking a few of his own jabs at what happened. Plus, the Globes grew by a whopping 50% — averaging 9.4 million viewers — after bottoming out in 2023.
In other words, Jo Koy is Ok. Still, with that kind of global platform, his misstep stung a bit. This was a milestone for the comedian, and his hiring was a proud moment for many Filipino Americans — a group often ignored by Hollywood.

Jeremy Allen White has won his second consecutive Golden Globe for the hit FX series “The Bear,” once again landing the honor for best actor in a television series — musical or comedy. White won the Globe last year as well for playing Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, the five-star chef who returns home to Chicago and this season aims to turn his family’s Italian beef restaurant into a high-class dining establishment.
White won the Globe for Season 2 of “The Bear.” The honor comes a week before the 75th Primetime Emmys, where he’s nominated in the comedy lead actor category for Season 1 of “The Bear.” In 2023, besides the Globes, White also won the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series, and he landed the Critics’ Choice award for best actor in a comedy series.

It isn’t that Jo Koy is a total unknown to the masses. He’s had a thriving stand-up comedy career for years, including four Netflix specials. He starred in the Universal film “Easter Sunday.” He worked on Chelsea Handler’s late-night talk show “Chelsea Lately” for years and dated the host exclusively for nearly a year. But when the 52-year-old was announced as the host of Sunday’s 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards, there was a lot of “Jo Who?” But the fact he’s had basically two weeks to pull everything together – a gig that typically takes months to prep – means he hasn’t had time to worry about stuff like being in the hot glare of this major awards show spotlight for the first time.

When Jo Koy was announced as Golden Globes host on Dec. 21, it was just a little over two weeks to air. “When they asked me, it was an immediate yes, I couldn’t believe this was happening,” Koy tells Variety. “And then I woke up and went, ‘wait a minute. I have two weeks to write jokes!
“Actually, I think I had less than two weeks because I didn’t get my writers until five days later,” he adds. “When Tina [Fey] and all those other hosts got the gig, they had months to prepare. I’m literally looking at just days! It’s been a crash course in hosting.”
But Koy is relishing this moment. The comedian, who recently sealed a deal to bring his next two stand-up comedy specials to Netflix (his fifth and sixth for the streamer), says he’s aware of the symbolism behind hosting a major awards show ceremony.

Preeminent comedian Jo Koy has been set to host the 81st Golden Globe Awards, in what will be his first outing in that capacity at a major awards show.
He comes to the role of Globes host after breaking sales records on his “Funny Is Funny World Tour,” which came in as one of the highest grossing of the year according to Pollstar, at a gross of $29.4 million for 88 performances in arenas and theaters around the world.
While the Golden Globes are almost always hosted by comedians these days, the introduction of Koy to the stage is particularly appropriate in a year that’s seen the ceremony introduce a category recognizing Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television, alongside one for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Inaugural nominees in the former include Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Noah, Sarah Silverman, Ricky Gervais and Amy Schumer.

Through their White Cherry Entertainment, entertainment industry veterans Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner have steered just about every major live TV production from the Oscars, Tonys and Emmys to the Super Bowl halftime show and beyond. On Jan. 7, the pair will make their Golden Globe Awards debut as executive producers and showrunners of the telecast, with Weiss also handling directing duties. Moments after the 2024 nominees were revealed Monday morning inside the Beverly Hilton, the pair spent some time with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about the star power of this year’s roster, having a new broadcast partner in CBS and what tone viewers should expect following what has been a brutal year for Hollywood.
This is your first Golden Globes. Why did you say yes?
Glenn Weiss: That might be the best question we’ve ever been asked. [Laughs]
Ricky Kirshner: I’ve been wondering that the last couple weeks.

While much of 2023 in Hollywood was dominated by labor strikes and negotiations, the film and TV industry are finally heading into a full-fledged awards season. November marked the return of the Gotham Film Awards, and 2024 will herald the return of the delayed Primetime Emmys, Oscars, and and more.
First up are the Golden Globe Awards, which will take place on January 7, 2024 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The 81st Golden Globes will air live on CBS and award both film and television selected by 310 international journalists after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association dissolved and redistributed its assets. The 2024 ceremony will introduce two new awards: Cinematic and Box Office Achievement in Motion Pictures, and Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment (Wce) will serve as executive-producing showrunners for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards, with Weiss directing.

Golden Globes exec producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner (of White Cherry Entertainment) don’t appear to be sweating the fact that with less than a month to go, there’s still no announced host for this year’s ceremony.
“Or is there?” Weiss quipped, a bit mysteriously. “We have to leave some room for some interesting announcements along the way.” Added Kirshner: “You said, ‘announced host,’ and we still have four weeks to go. We’ll be there on January 7.”
Globes president Helen Hoehne is similarly cryptic: “To be determined,” she told Variety on Monday morning, as the org announced this year’s nominations at the Beverly Hilton. Insiders believe the Globes, Dick Clark Prods. and now CBS have sent out several feelers, but the timing is tough. Barbie director Greta Gerwig received her first best director Golden Globe nomination Monday, following years past in which she was snubbed for her films Lady Bird and Little Women.
Gerwig was nominated alongside Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), Celine Song (Past Lives), Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon), Bradley Cooper (Maestro) and Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things). Gerwig also received a best original screenplay nomination alongside Noah Baumbach for Barbie. In total, Barbie received nine nominations, including best musical or comedy, best actress for Margot Robbie and best supporting actor for Ryan Gosling.
In 2017, a year which saw Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman and Dee Rees’ Mudbound hit the big screen, Gerwig didn’t receive a nomination for Lady Bird, despite a best picture comedy or musical nomination. Guillermo del Toro, Martin McDonagh, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg received nominations. Natalie Portman, while she was presenting the award to the eventual winner,...

On Monday, Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama announced the nominees for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. They made the announcement live from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
Among the 27 categories the two announced, there were some new ones: Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement as well as Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television.
The 81st Golden Globes will air on CBS (and stream on Paramount+) on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 8 p.m. Et/5 p.m. Pt. The show will be produced by Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirschner; Weiss will direct.
The Golden Globes found a new home on CBS in November, after its longtime network NBC did not renew its contract with the group, which has been trying to reset since a Los Angeles Time exposé reported in April 2021 that there were zero Black members in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and detailed numerous accusations of improper behavior within the organization.

The Golden Globes have found a new broadcast home. The upcoming 81st edition of the Hollywood awards show on January 7, 2024 will air live on CBS, stream on Paramount+ and be available on the CBS app. This is a marquee slot for the show, which will follow an NFL on CBS Sunday doubleheader and is expected to be supported by a major marketing campaign.
The announcement follows a multi-month search which started after the Golden Globes’ assets, rights and properties were acquired by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in June, with the awards show turned into a commercial enterprise and the HFPA dissolved.
The new broadcast partnership succeeds the Globes’ longtime association with NBC and brings the Globes back to CBS where the ceremony aired in 1981 and 1982. It gives CBS two of the top awards shows on TV with the Golden Globes and the Grammys.

The Tony Awards will once again find a new home for the 2024 ceremony. The 77th Annual Tony Awards will broadcast live from The David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
This marks the first time in history that the awards will take place on the Lincoln Center campus. The most common venue for the Tony Awards in recent years has been the mammoth Radio City Music Hall. The 2024 Tony Awards will broadcast live Sunday, June 16, on CBS from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The event will be the first Tony ceremony in the Upper West Side building’s 50-plus-year history.
The move to the venue on the Lincoln Center campus,, announced today by CBS and the Tony Awards Productions, brings the ceremony considerably closer to New York’s Times Square theater district after last year’s excursion seven miles north to the luxuriously renovated United Palace in upper Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Lincoln Center, which houses the Vivian Beaumont Theater, a Broadway venue, is just more than a mile north of 42nd Street.

By this time nearly every year, the Primetime Emmys are in the rearview mirror and Golden Globe and SAG film/TV season is in full swing. But this is clearly not every year. It appears that the Emmys won’t be budging off their rescheduled date of January 15, 2024 even if the SAG-AFTRA strike is settled soon. This means that they’ll be shoehorned in after the Golden Globes (January 7) and the Critics Choice Awards (January 14), with the SAG Awards set for February 24 (presuming SAG-AFTRA has long since been settled by then).

The Golden Globes continue to reform in unexpected ways: The rejiggered organization has introduced two new categories to its live awards show in January. While Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television is a bit more traditional, following the lead of the Emmys and the Grammys in having a dedicated category for stand-up comedy specials released on a recognized media platform, the other award builds upon a controversial premise first put forward by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2018.
The Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement will include nominees from the year’s most acclaimed, highest-earning and/or most viewed films that have extensive global audience support. Eligibility will be measured by a mix of box office grosses and commensurate digital streaming viewership recognized by trusted industry sources. Films released after November 22 may qualify based on box office and/or streaming projections. Once a film qualifies,...

The Golden Globes has dropped 18 voters who are former members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and will not be voting for the 81st awards, TheWrap has learned.
The Globes sent an email informing studios of the change, which was obtained by TheWrap, and did not give a reason for the change. The list included three people – Munawar Hosain, Aniko Navai and Howaida Hamdy Serour – who were expelled after investigations into violations of the Globes’ code of conduct. Two of those members, Hosain and Hamdy Serous, had been investigated by TheWrap.
All the members had been among the former HFPA members who were paid $75,000 per year under the agreement to sell the organization to Eldridge Industries.
The Globes did not respond to a request for comment on the email to studios, or to explain why the members had been dropped as voters.
The awards are scheduled to take place on Jan.

Amidst the crammed run-in of various industry awards shows, nominations and critics’ organizations all competing for eyes this January, the Golden Globes — very much seeking a vibrant new direction after years of bad press — has tapped pros and former Oscar super-producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirschner for the 2024 fete. It’s currently scheduled for Jan. 7, 2024.
Weiss and Kirschner’s credits include everything from Super Bowl halftime shows to the Tonys, as well as being the founders of White Cherry Entertainment. They possess a combined 24 Emmys between them. In a statement, they indicated they “look forward to raising the bar for the awards season right out of the gate.”
Weiss has a history with Dick Clark Productions as a director of previous awards shows, such as the Academy of Country Music Awards. The company, along with Eldridge Industries, acquired the entirety of the Golden Globe Awards from the now-defunct Hollywood Foreign Press Association in June.
