Judy Tenuta, the quirky comedian known for playing the accordion and for her colorful characters, died Thursday at her home in Studio City, California, of ovarian cancer, according to her publicist. She was 72.
She had been battling stage 4 ovarian cancer as she detailed in her video “Judy Tenuta Kicks Cancer’s Ass,” which was shot at her home during the pandemic.
Tenuta was born on Nov. 7, 1949, in Oak Park, Illinois, where she grew up in a staunchly Irish Catholic neighborhood. She attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she majored in theater. Her interest in comedy took hold when she took an improv comedy class with the famed Chicago group The Second City, and she began opening for other comedians.
Her mother, a fan of Lawrence Welk, encouraged her to learn to play the accordion and Tenuta began incorporating it into her act. The accordion is currently on display...

Douglas Kirkland, the highly respected movie set photographer best known for his iconic — there’s no other word for it — pictures of Marilyn Monroe taken in 1961, died Sunday, his family announced Tuesday. He was 88.
His family told The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported his death, that he died of natural causes in his Los Angeles home.
Kirkland, born in Toronto in 1934 but raised in the United States, began his luminous career in 1960 at age 26, having previously taught photography at a high school. Hired as a staff photographer for Look magazine, the next year he made his mark with his photos of Monroe for Look’s 25th anniversary. The images, in which an almost angelic Monroe lay naked under white bedsheets, were released just a year before her death and have since endured as some of her defining images.

Mike Ruiz, the acclaimed celebrity and fashion photographer who also stars in The A-List: New York, took some time to catch up with me and share his latest book project, Pretty Masculine.
Where are you today?
I'm in Apple Valley shooting about 10 guys for my expanding Pretty Masculine project. We've been out in a dry lake bed. Our makeup artist brought us to this remote location he knows about, and it's actually very cool. Compared with the chill of New York City right now, it's 80 degrees and sunny here. The light and the weather have been awesome.
Why don't you tell us a little bit about Pretty Masculine?
I had been working with a guy who did an event where a number of models were body painted, and I just thought, "Wow, I'd really love to do a photo shoot with that." So the first series is featuring body painting that resembles tribal tattoos.

A new book about Michael Jackson reveals never-before-seen images of the star behind-the-scenes of his iconic 1983 video "Thriller". Photographer Douglas Kirkland has gathered all the snaps he took of the singer rehearsing for the horror promo and undergoing the make-up routine that transformed him from pop star to zombie.
The images all appear in "Michael Jackson: The Making of Thriller: 4 Days/1983". Remembering his time on set with Jacko - who died in 2009 - Kirkland writes, "The yellow contacts he wore were painful. So was peeling off the makeup. But he stayed positive. His ability to write, create and perform - he was truly exceptional."
As of late, it was reported that Michael Jackson's "Thriller" will be turned into a movie by director Kenny Ortega.

Journalist Nancy Griffin had tangible memories to cling to, having been present on set for the filming of Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” video. Observing Jackson firsthand at the peak of his career, and then going back to interview his key aides and collaborators, Griffin, in “The ‘Thriller’ Diaries” reflects on a man for whom all the talent in the world couldn’t stave off crippling insecurities and loneliness. Griffin speaks with director John Landis, record executives, Jackson’s co-star Ola Ray, choreographers, and others to illuminate the process of how the star created something totally revolutionary. On the backs of the record-setting LP of the same name,...

Baxter/Abaca As suspected, Bardot Vita — 4-week-old daughter of actor David Boreanaz and wife Jaime Bergman — was, indeed, inspired by Brigitte Bardot.
During a recent appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly, the 40-year-old Bones star said that it was actually a Douglas Kirkland photograph of the famed actress that reeled him in, a mere two weeks prior to Bardot’s August 31st birth. “It was the energy,” David revealed. “The essence of that photograph kind of got me moved. It hit me hard.”
