Mr Kemble sang with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, under W.S. Gilbert and
'Arthur Sullivan''s instruction, from 1888 until 1895. He was the nephew of
D'Oyly Carte principal contralto Alice Barnett, and later married Carte
chorister Nancy Pounds, brother of principal tenor Courtice Pounds. While with
the Carte, Kemble sang the following principal roles: Bouncer in "Cox
and Box", Corcoran in "HMS Pinafore", Grosvenor in "Patience", Pooh-Bah
or the eponymous role in "The Mikado", Meryll in "The Yeomen of the
Guard", Giuseppe in "The Gondoliers", and Mr Goldbury in "Utopia,
Ltd.".
