Can you imagine a world where the cheeriest of childhood memories intersect with heart-wrenching twists? It’s hard to believe, but Velma’s brutal death isn’t the first time a lead Scooby-Doo character has met a grim fate. Season 2 of Velma concluded with a perplexing scene involving Scrappy-Doo.
Starring Mindy Kaling in the voice role, Velma is an animated series that expands on the Scooby-Doo universe. Viewers were taken aback when Scrappy-Doo was exposed as Velma’s killer in the season two finale of Velma.

While fans of the series were left in disbelief at the loss of such a central character, this was not the first time a lead Scooby-Doo character has met their untimely end. For fans who had weathered the emotional storm of Scooby Apocalypse #25, Fred Jones’ death was more than just a surprise; it was an earth-shattering moment that left fans in disbelief.

Fire up the mystery van because Netflix is about to close a deal for a live-action TV series based on the Hanna-Barbera animated series Scooby-Doo.
Sources say that the live-action Scooby-Doo project has a script-to-series commitment, which, assuming the script hits the right buttons, would mean it would receive a straight-to-series order. Josh Appelbaum & Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bebop) are set to write the series, as well as produce alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner through their Midnight Radio banner. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman will executive produce the project via their Berlanti Productions banner.

Even though there are several cartoons and animated series that enjoy similar popularity, what makes the adventures of Scooby-Doo and his friends is the countless crossovers they have had. From The Dark Knight to the Justice League and even Jensen Ackles’s Supernatural, the characters have had many memorable crossovers. But perhaps the best one was when they collaborated with WWE starring John Cena for an epic WrestleMania mystery.

The Super Bowl teaser trailer for "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" served double duty as a Porsche commercial. That's because Mirage, one of the film's new Autobots, transforms into a silver-colored 964-Gen Porsche 911 with a blue racing stripe running down the middle. This car choice is era-appropriate -- "Rise of the Beasts" takes place in 1994, the year this Porsche model ceased production after debuting in 1989.
Prominently featured in both trailers so far -- they open with the Porsche, in fact -- it looks like Mirage will take over Bumblebee's usual role as the Autobot friend of the human lead. In this case, the primary human is called Noah and is played by Anthony Ramos ("In the Heights").
The trailers also indicate how the two meet. Noah stumbles on Mirage chilling in a New York City parking garage. After Noah enters the "car," it begins driving itself. The two are caught in a police chase,...

While most know her as Buffy, few can forget Sarah Michelle Gellar’s role as Daphne Blake in the ’00s live-action Scooby-Doo franchise. The 2002 movies also starred Gellar’s real-life husband, Freddie Prinze Jr as Fred Jones, Linda Cardellini as Velma Dinkley, and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy Rogers. Recently, the actor revealed her character and Cardellini’s were supposed to kiss in the film. And that’s not all.
Did Daphne and Velma kiss in 2002’s ‘Scooby-Doo’?
In 2023, Andy Cohen had Gellar as a guest on Watch What Happens Live. A virtual audience member asked the star if it was true that the original version of the Scooby-Doo movie showcased a relationship between the Daphne and Velma characters “on the side”
Gellar responded, “I don’t know about a relationship on the side, but there was a steamy …I mean, I said it was steamy, but they probably didn’t think it was,...

One reason that "Batman: The Animated Series" was and remains so beloved was how it embraced case-of-the-week storytelling. This was perfect for showcasing all the different corners and characters that make up the wild world of Gotham City. Such a large cast of characters meant that the series brought in a lot of actors; voice director Andrea Romano sought actors of all stripes for parts big and small. On the Popcorn & Shield podcast, the late Kevin Conroy (the voice of Batman) described the casting process as thus:
"They were really looking for actors, rather than just voice people. They cast a really wide net. So there were TV people, film people, stage people. Every week going in it was like going to summer camp, the people I got to work with."
Series co-creator Bruce Timm, also being interviewed, agreed with Conroy's sentiment. "Every week there was always some special, you know,...

HBO Max's "Velma" isn't your average Scooby-Doo show - and not just because there's literally no Scooby-Doo in it. In the new animated series, which wrapped up its first season on Feb. 9, the world of Mystery Inc. gets an adult twist with Mindy Kaling, Sam Richardson, Glenn Howerton, and Constance Wu voicing the roles of Velma Dinkley, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, Fred Jones, and Daphne Blake, respectively.
The series, which was developed by Charlie Grandy, with Kaling serving as an executive producer, has a more mature tone than classic cartoon specials and features bloody murders and even some nudity. But the biggest change to the beloved mystery-solvers cartoon comes at the end of "Velma"'s second episode - when Daphne kisses Velma!
Here's how it happens: The show's plot follows Velma, who loves solving mysteries because her mom was a mystery writer. However, her mother went missing years back, and whenever...

We’re still waiting for a trailer for the movie, but various leaks have come our way recently that have given us our first looks at the gang. Or at least, most of them.
Today, however, we’ve got a few new images which reveal the redesigns for both Fred Jones and Velma Dinkley, as voiced by Zac Efron and Gina Rodriguez, respectively. Velma’s look is very classic, though slightly modernized, while Fred’s new outfit is considerably different from his traditional get-up. As you can see below, his shirt and sweater combo has been swapped for a tee and jacket and there’s no sign of his orange ascot.

Back when I was a kid, Scooby-Doo and the gang went up against foes who were corrupt real estate developers in elaborate costumes. Save for maybe The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, that standard held true until the day when these beloved characters began facing off with actual supernatural entities.
On that note, one could say a huge turning point arrived in 1998 when Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island dropped, and that flick really lived up to its name. Funny enough, I remember its arrival coinciding with a big Resident Evil multimedia boom, so I find it oddly appropriate that Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island is gearing up for home video release not long after the Resident Evil 2 remake hit shelves.
Getting back to the mystery solving bunch themselves, you can check out a clip taken from the highly anticipated sequel at the top of this article. In it, Shaggy, Scooby, Fred, Velma and...

Scooby-Dooby-Doo is returning to cinemas in 2020 for the first time in what’ll be 16 years. Warner Bros.’ Scooby-Doo reboot, titled Scoob!, will be CG-animated unlike the two live-action efforts from the early 00s and as such, it’ll hue much closer to the classic depiction of the cartoon canine and his Mystery Inc. pals. We’ve already had Scooby’s traditional look revealed and now, we have a glimpse at how his best friend Shaggy “Norville” Rogers will be portrayed.
As captured at a licensing expo, this image shows Shaggy paired, as ever, with his faithful dog. The Scoob! filmmakers have gone with a very typical design for the cowardly hippie, too, with his usual green shirt and brown pants in check. The white undershirt wasn’t part of his original outfit, but is a common addition to modern iterations of the character.

Zac Efron has signed on to voice Fred Jones while Amanda Seyfried will voice Daphne Blake in Warner Bros.’ animated Scooby-Doo feature film “Scoob.”
It was revealed earlier this month that Will Forte had been set to voice Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, while Gina Rodriguez would be voicing Velma Dinkley. The mystery-solving teens and their talking Great Dane Scooby-Doo first appeared half a century ago on the animated TV series “Scooby-Doo: Where Are You?,” which was created by Hanna-Barbera and first aired in 1969.
Plot details of the movie involve the Scooby-Doo characters teaming up with other characters in the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from the evil Dick Dastardly.
Tony Cervone is directing “Scoob.” His credits include “Space Jam,” Cartoon Network’s “The Looney Tunes Show,” and “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.” Matt Lieberman (“Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief”) wrote the screenplay.
Producers are Chris Columbus, Pam Coats, and Allison Abbate.
