Save the Children's annual Winter Gala returned last week with guests spotted walking along the Yellow Brick Road into the Emerald City at London’s Guildhall for a Wonderful Wizard of Oz-themed night of festivities.
The gala was hosted by radio and TV presenter Lauren Laverne and attended by more than 270 guests including Save the Children supporters and ambassadors such as Poppy Delevingne, Dom Joly, Misan Harriman, Erin O’Connor, Ashley Jensen and DJ Cuppy. The night raised more than £700,000 for the charity through sponsorship, table sales, pledges, and the sale of some truly unique silent auction items, including a signed guitar from Ed Sheeran.
As attendees arrived, they walked through Dorothy’s upside-down house and into ‘Munchkinland’ in the crypts of the Guildhall for a drink’s reception, before following the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City of the Great Hall for the evening’s fundraising and entertainment.

Sir Karl Jenkins — the multi-instrumentalist and composer best-known known for his work in Soft Machine and writing “Adiemus” — has confirmed that, contrary to popular belief, he is not Meghan Markle, nor a jewel thief.
Jenkins’ clarification comes after images of the 79-year-old musician attending King Charles III’s coronation went viral over the weekend. He was invited to the ceremony because he had composed a piece of music that was performed by the coronation orchestra, but his shaggy hair and bushy mustache led some to wonder whether something else was afoot.
“I don’t know much about the coronation, but I do know this is obviously a disguise,” one Twitter user said, posting photos of Jenkins from the ceremony. “100 percent they’re going to try and steal the Crown Jewels.”
Others supposed that Jenkins may have been Markle in disguise. Since Markle and her husband Prince Harry stepped back from...

It takes many people to fill Richard Osman’s shoes, and not just because he wears a size 14. Back in April 2021, the TV presenter, producer and novelist announced that he was leaving his co-presenter role on Pointless to focus on his hugely successful Thursday Murder Club book series and other projects. Due to the ‘stars we see in the night sky are actually hundreds of years in the past’ nature of TV broadcast, by that point, Osman was already four months out of the job. His final episode of the regular Pointless (he’ll still appear on the celebrity editions) was filmed in December 2021 and aired in July 2022, with this touching message to Alexander Armstrong.
When Pointless returned for Series 28 in September 2022, it came with a rotating clutch of new guest-hosts sitting behind Osman’s fact-checking desk. First up was Sally Lindsay, and following her were Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne,...

Several celebrities and public figures have fiercely condemned Jeremy Clarkson’s “vile” and “hateful” rant against Meghan Markle in a newspaper column.
In an op-ed for The Sun published on Friday (16 December), Clarkson wrote that he loathes the Duchess of Sussex “on a cellular level” and wants people to “throw lumps of excrement” at her.
“Everyone who’s my age thinks the same way,” Clarkson added.
Now, several prominent figures – from comedians Kathy Burke and John Bishop to Countdown star Carol Vorderman – have criticised Clarkson’s comments.
Bishop tweeted that the remarks were a “blatant appeal to incite humiliation and violence on a woman”.
He added: “Some have excused it as dark humour. There is no joke here Jeremy Clarkson, and no excuse.”
Vorderman’s Twitter comment began: “No Jeremy Clarkson. Not on any level, in any circumstance, is it Ok to write this stuff about any woman and absolutely...

Christmas Jumper Day is back! And whilst it may look a little different after a challenging year, Save the Children is hoping that flashing, festive knits will still be sweeping the nation on Friday 11th December, creating much-needed Christmas cheer and a chance to raise money for the world’s most vulnerable children in the UK and around the world.

As the UK heads back to the voting booths tomorrow to elect a government, film and TV stars have been declaring allegiances.
Polls have consistently pointed to a Conservative win at the general election, though a final major survey this morning predicted only a slim victory for the Tories over Labour. Brexit and the National Health Service have been the major campaigning points throughout.
Hugh Grant has been among the most vocal celebrity canvassers, urging the public to vote tactically to avoid a Conservative majority. The Four Weddings And A Funeral star took to the streets last week with Labour and Liberal Democrat politicians.
Grant was asked this week about Conservative leader Boris Johnson recreating a scene from Love Actually as part of his campaign. “I thought it was quite well done, very high production values, but clearly the Conservative Party have an awful lot of money. Maybe that’s where the rubles went.

In factual, the British royals are red hot ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s May wedding, and many of the big documentary titles for MipTV have a regal air.
For buyers looking to make a royal appointment, Fngcd has “Meghan Markle: An American Princess,” made for the Fox network. U.K.-based Drive has one-off “Invitation to a Royal Wedding,” which will be on ITV in the U.K.
Fusing royalty and natural history, Cineflix Rights will launch “The Queen’s Green Planet,” the one-off that built around a conversation between the British monarch and naturalist David Attenborough about a shared love of nature, and a project to create a network of protected forests.
It’s not just royals, there are some rough and tough American pioneers in town too. Stephen David Entertainment, which specializes in factual that plays similar to drama, made “The Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen,...

Royal baby mania is among us! And according to UK publication The Metro, another royal family member is with child — and it's not only news to her, but to her other children, too! In a now-deleted tweet, The Metro incorrectly said Camilla Parker Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, 70, is pregnant instead of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, 36, who is indeed expecting her third child. "The Duchess of Cornwall is due to give birth to her third child next month," the outlet penned, alongside a link to an article about Kate's latest royal engagement in London. Awkward! Duchess Camilla's son, Tom Parker Bowles, 43, was quick to point out the error and Tweeted, "Dear God. Really?" British Comedian Dom Joly then chimed in to say, "Congratulations on your impending sibling. Must have been a surprise," to which Tom replied, "You're not wrong," Camilla (left) and pregnant Kate (right). (Photo Credit: Getty Images) "Better...

“I’m quite keen to meet a Finnish shaman, have you seen them?” asks Sally Phillips three minutes into an interview that’s supposed to be about her role in new family animation Ferdinand. Scrolling through her phone, she presents me with a photograph of a fearsome looking woman with Pris from Blade Runner eye make-up, wearing an elaborate headdress and holding a tambourine.

“Look at the expression! Very, very miserable, tambourine, excellent eye make-up” says Phillips, delighted. “I play a character who looks a bit like that in Zapped! and I did something else recently where they painted a black chicken on one eye. I thought, well, it’s slowly, slowly happening, I’m turning into a Finnish Shaman.”

October 21st, 2015 - the day that good old Marty McFly and Doc Brown will pop into our hoverboard-riding, fax-sending, flying car-driving world. Except... no, we don't do any of those things. Blame scriptwriters Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale - Back to the Future Day has forever skewed our expectations of 2015.

Keep an eye out for a tall guy in silly outfits. Trigger Happy TV is coming back after 12 years.
Channel 4 has decided to bring back Dom Joly's prank show, unless of course Joly's announcement is a prank itself.
Speaking to BBC Radio London's Robert Elms, Joly promised a more "cinematic" version of the original series, which ran from 2000 to 2003 including an American spinoff on Comedy Central.
"I'm bringing Trigger Happy back. I just went to Channel 4 yesterday. I'm doing it in a very different way.
"I'm doing it in kind of 'modules' because I really want to make some cinematic-style ones. I want some really big hits.
"So it's not coming back as the original show, it's coming back as a Trigger Happy stunt show, so I'm quite excited about that."
Joly said he found fame "really terrifying" in the early 2000s, explaining: "I didn't want that level.

As part of an initiative called iFeatures, where three movies were made on modest-sized budgets in Bristol, England, 8 Minutes Idle is the final of the trio of films (Flying Blind and In the Dark Half being the other too) to finally make its way to cinemas. Though director Mark Simon Hewis’ debut production had hit a snag when the film’s initial distributor went bust – fortunately cash raised by members of the British public and celebrities such as Stephen Merchant and Dom Joly, have ensured this film will get a theatrical release after all – and given the creativity and jocular charm to this low-budget piece, that can only be a good thing.

Poor Keith Duffy suffered not one, but two embarrassing trunk malfunctions during Saturday night's (February 1) Splash! live semi-final on ITV.
The Boyzone singer's skimpy green trunks, adorned with sparkly floral embellishments and described by some as 'budgie smugglers', kept falling down to expose his backside upon his entrance into the pool.
Luckily the star saw the funny side, and joked to host Gabby Logan: "I'm just lucky I got them back on again in time Gabby, or I'd be standing here in my birthday suit."
Clearly impractical but seriously entertaining, we take a closer look at Duffy's Speedos, and some of the other competing stars clad in silly swimwear on Splash!, below:

Exclusive: Kickstarter fundraising paves the way for theatrical release after Revolver’s shuttering.
Following the collapse of its distributor in March, Bristol-set indie comedy 8 Minutes Idle has now secured a 2014 Valentine’s Day release in the UK thanks to fundraising on Kickstarter.
The film, a dark romantic comedy based on a novel by Matt Thorne (who also co-wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Blincoe), was initially set to be distributed by Revolver, but the company’s collapse in March shortly before the planned release date left the project’s theatrical release plans in limbo.
The producers decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise £20,000 with a promise of matched funding from Creative England, in order to fund the P&A costs for a theatrical release (the film will get a TV airing via its BBC Films deal).
Two weeks and six days into the campaign, 277 national and international donations meant that they surpassed their target by £1,000, and 8 Minutes...

The eagerly anticipated 13th series of the hit ITV show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will soon be back on our screens. Each series sees a group of ‘celebrities,’ enter the Australian jungle, without their creature comforts.
From living in a rustic camp, to eating basic food rations and partaking in tasks dictated by the viewers, they are fully at the mercy of the Great British public.
Whilst there have been a string of legitimate stars, the series line up often comprises of failed soap stars, unheard of ‘models’ and even relatives and spouses of the not-so-famous. However, it seems that the formula of I’m a Celebrity… definitely works and contestants are able to forge a career on the back of it.
So with this in mind, we take a look at the most entertaining contestants of the show to date….

He told The Sun newspaper: ''This series will have six characters from different generations - and so a lot more artificial limbs. ''It is very ambitious. I have no idea how I will do a...

Anthony Ogogo has triumphed in the third and final heat of Splash!. The Olympic boxing bronze medalist competed against actress Donna Air, comedian Dom Joly, Changing Rooms designer Linda Barker and Shameless star Tina Malone in tonight's (January 19) episode of Tom Daley's diving competition. Ogogo's dive involved a back somersault and entering the water feet first, which proved a challenge for the boxer. He was awarded 22 out of 30 by the panel, behind leader Linda Barker. Following the public vote, Ogogo won the heat, while Barker went through to the dive-off with Malone, ultimately beating the actress to stay in the competition. Before the programme, Ogogo took to Twitter to warn viewers about the size of his swimming suit. (more)...

The X Factor's Boot Camp weekend last night kicked off with 7.9 million viewers, 8.3m with +1 figures included. Saturday's premature exits and drunk acts were witnessed by 7.86m (34%) on ITV1 and 378k (1.8%) on +1, down over 700k week-on-week. Although The X Factor topped the night comfortably, the talent show's audience remains 2 million short of the equivalent instalment last year. The Xtra Factor followed the main show with 1.01m (5.1%) from 9.40pm. Sandwiched between The X Factor, Red or Black? continued with 3.39m (16.3%) at 7.30pm and 3.23m (15.7%) at 9.50pm. The Jonathan Ross Show could only muster 1.82m (12.2%) at the later time of 10.30pm (+1: 1%). From Tori Amos's dad chaperoning her at her first paid gig, to Don Letts DJing with only one deck, a host of stars recall the formative moments that kicked off their careers
The first time I was paid to play live Tori Amos
I'd been kicked out of the Peabody conservatory in Baltimore at the age of 11 and lost my scholarship because I wasn't Peabody stock any more. I had real issues that they weren't teaching contemporary composers. They said the Beatles would be gone and dead within 30 years, and no one would care. It was 1974, I was 11, and it was good to be right! My minister father was really distraught. He had these dreams of me being a concert pianist and then going into religious music. I just looked and him and said: "Dad, this music is just not moving me." He said: "Well, if you're going to go into that world,...

Life occasionally throws up an unexpected surprise, and such a treat materialised in my corner of the universe last week when, on a whim, I agreed to review the audio-book version of the intriguingly and provocatively titled Queer Fish In God's Waiting Room, solely because Adrian Pasdar was handling storytelling duties.
Despite the fact that Liam Kerby, the narrator of author Lee Henshaw's semi-autobiographical 2008 novel, is from Macclesfield (a town in the North of England mostly famous, as he informs us (not incorrectly) for the sexist, misogynistic pub rock trio The Macc Lads), and Pasdar is from the slightly more westerly climes of Massachusetts(lookup), his smooth American tones suit the material well, though I couldn't help but smile every time he pronounced 'twat' as 'twot' and the entertainingly peculiar way that our transatlantic cousins say 'arse' using two syllables (phonetically are-uss).
The story itself follows Liam as he and his younger brother,...

The four could now face a massive legal bill for damages after identifying the footballer on the site.
“Those who I think may take an idea that modern methods of communication mean they can act with impunity may well find themselves in for a rude shock,” the Daily Mail quoted.

✒Monkey fought the jetlag in United Arab Emirates to listen to a carefully choreographed "in conversation with" between James Murdoch and Avatar director James Cameron last Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit. It would be wrong, if not unfair, to say that Murdoch hasn't met a Cameron he didn't like, but certainly the two got on very well. Amazingly, the two agreed on the magnificence of 3D, with James Cameron obligingly saying "Sports is what's going to drive 3D into the home" and Murdoch arguing that "customers will not want big events that are not in 3D at some point in time in the future". What on earth, then, could be the point of such backslapping? Could it be to demonstrate that it isn't just sister Elisabeth who can get on with these creative types, one of the most frequent criticisms of the more cerebral James? Or would that be too cynical?...

British funnyman Dom Joly has broken three bones in his foot while competing on a celebrity TV show.
The star was in Argentina earlier this month taking part in Celebrity Total Wipeout, in which contestants embark on a series of active challenges.
But Joly was left in agony when one obstacle went wrong - he was admitted to hospital to treat his injured foot and forced to return to England early.
In a column for Britain's The Independent, Joly writes, "I broke three of the five metatarsals in my left foot on the last obstacle of the qualifying round. Adrenaline allowed me to somehow finish the course, but I was then whisked off to hospital in a most unglamourous manner and my trip was over. Good telly though, which is all that matters - right?"
Joly will have his foot in plaster for the next two months.

The star, who recently appeared on reality show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, was travelling late on Friday when a fellow passenger allegedly attempted to punch him.

Dom Joly thinks Gillian McKeith “behaved very selfishly” on ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get me out of Here!’.
The comedian – who arrived in camp four days after the rest of the contestants – is not surprised the public continued to vote for the TV nutritionist to take part in trials because of her attention-seeking antics on the show.
