Partners to finance, sell project set in 1940s Atlanta.
Lotus Entertainment, PaperChase Films and financier and executive producer Marco Vicini have teamed up to produce Superman Vs The Kkk.
The project is based on the novel Superman Versus The Ku Klux Klan by Rick Bowers, which was inspired by a true story during the summer of 1946 that the producers describe as The Departed meets Mississippi Burning with a touch of American Hustle.
The story will centre on a klansman who went undercover in Atlanta for the FBI and combined with the efforts of the Anti-Defamation League and the ‘Superman Radio Show’ to take on the Kkk. Katherine Lindberg is adapting from Bowers’s novel.
Newly arrived Lotus producer Marc Rosen, who serves as executive producer on the Wachowskis’ series Sense8, and PaperChase CEO Dillon Jordan negotiated the deal with Lotus vice-president of acquisitions Daniel Brandt.

In Brad's review of John Wick, he mentioned he wouldn't be surprised to see star Keanu Reeves "start doing a lot of similar, lower budget action features a la Liam Neeson." Well, it seems Reeves intends to do exactly that with the just-announced science fiction thriller Replicas, about a neuroscientist who will stop at nothing to bring back his deceased family, even if it means pitting himself against a government-controlled laboratory, a police task force, and the physical laws of science themselves. In short, it sounds totally bonkers. Replicas, a joint project between Lotus Entertainment and di Bonaventura Pictures, was written by newcomer Chad St. John and will be directed by Tanya Wexler (Hysteria). Production is slated to begin next spring. From the press release: Lotus Entertainment's Bill Johnson and Jim Seibel said, "We loved the notion of taking the 'how far will a man go to save his family'...

Lotus Entertainment and di Bonaventura Pictures announced today Keanu Reeves will star in Replicas from director Tanya Wexler, the follow-up to her successful hit (Hysteria). From a screenplay by Chad St. John, Replicas is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (GI Joe, Transformers Franchises), Stephen Hamel, Reeves, and Fundamental Films. Company Films’ partners Hamel and Reeves developed the script based on Hamel’s treatment. Lotus will introduce the sci-fi thriller to foreign buyers starting at the upcoming Afm. CAA is handling domestic rights.
After a car accident kills his loving family, a daring neuroscientist will stop at nothing to bring them back, even if it means pitting himself against a government-controlled laboratory, a police task force, and the physical laws of science themselves.
Production is slated for spring 2015.
No stranger to sci-fi action films, Reeves is possibly best known for his role as “Neo” in the wildly popular The Matrix Trilogy.

In the genre-subverting apocalyptic thriller Maggie, which Lionsgate just acquired for North American distribution, Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as a father grappling with his daughter’s imminent zombie-ness.
John Scott 3’s Black List script imagines a world overtaken by a zombie virus, but focuses the trauma on the relationship between a father and his daughter (Abigail Breslin) as she slowly devolves into one of the cannibalistic undead. Henry Hobson, whose main credits are for designing title sequences for video games, television shows, and films such as The Help and The Walking Dead, directed the film, which also stars Joely Richardson.

Latin America and China are two of the hottest markets to watch for growing film investment, experts told the fourth-annual Film Finance Forum at the Zurich Film Festival, organised by Winston Baker.
French producer Pierre-Ange Le Pogam of Stone Angels said that he is “Looking a lot to China, the ‘zero’ we have at the moment could become substantial investment. In three years, China could be a bigger market than the Us.”
Charles Coker, the MD of Dasym Media who is working on Chinese co-productions with John Woo and Jackie Chan, noted: “China is a mystery to everybody here. It’s seen as the emerging behemoth in the entertainment industry…Media and entertainment spend rose from $350bn in 2011 to $547bn in 2012.” He added that 2002’s 1300 cinema screens were now closer to 13,000; Chinese box office in 2012 totaled $2.7bn and is on track to hit $3.5-$3.5bn this year.”

Ray William Johnson has threatened to sue Maker Studios should the multi-channel network not return his Adsense account, but Maker now has a much more immediate mess on its hands. According to a report in Variety, co-founder Danny Zappin and three others are suing the company, accusing its executives of breach of contract and fraudulently ousting Zappin as CEO. In May, Former Endemol boss Ynon Kreiz took control of Maker as the Executive Chairman, while Zappin relinquished the title of Maker's CEO and taking on an advising role as a member of the company's board. In a statement released after the hiring, Zappin sounded enthusiastic about Kreiz's new role at the top of the network, but that was obviously not the case. Along with fellow plaintiffs Scott Katz, Derek Jones, and Will Watkins, he now claims Maker diluted his stock in the company so that it could control the Board...

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes unleashed the first trailer for their new animated adventure Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! This is what Jay & Silent Bob fans get while we wait for Smith's final film Clerks 3. Maybe some of the more hardcore fans will like what they see in the animated film, but it really kind of just fell flat for me, and did nothing to make me want to see the movie. It just seems like there was a lot of recycled stuff from Mallrats and Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back. But maybe some of you will look past that stuff, and enjoy what you see. Here's the synopsis...
