Flip through the pages of (or, because it’s 2024, click on) the October 2001 issue of Texas Monthly, and you’ll find an article by Skip Hollingsworth about a Houston man named Gary Johnson. He is described as being in his mid-50s, “tall but not too tall, thin but not too thin…[who] sometimes wears wire-rimmed glasses that give him a scholarly appearance.” Gary teaches a few classes at a local junior college. Mostly, however, he pretends to be a professional killer for the police department when they want to set...

When the original Knives Out movie was released by Lionsgate in 2019, the whodunnit starring Daniel Craig as the southern P.E. Benoit Blanc, was either doomed to fail or become a smashing success. The latter happened, as the ensemble cast full of big names made Knives Out one of the best films of the year, ending up with numerous accolades and nominations, with many going so far as to claim that it had revived the whodunnit genre. The sequel, Glass Onion, was also well-received, but more because of its political and social messages than for the plot, which was more or less feeble and unworthy of the original. But, what is important is that Glass Onion also featured an ensemble cast, and it seems that the upcoming third movie, Wake Up Dead Man, will also follow in these footsteps.

The Julie Etchingham-hosted ITV ding dong, which was produced by MultiStory Media and lasted just more than an hour, peaked with around 5M towards the end, according to Barb data supplied by overnights.tv. It fell behind the previous head-to-head between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn in 2019, which garnered an audience of 7M.
TV debates have become an established part of the UK general election landscape since the 2010 program, which was watched by almost 10M, and this one was a feisty affair.

Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) said she wants to “defund” the state of New York state for convicting former President Donald Trump.
Greene proposed cutting the state off from federal funding in an attempt to punish residents after 12 jurors convicted Trump on May 30.
The proposal would cut off access to federal resources for education, housing, law enforcement and veterans’ benefits.
Greene commented during an interview with former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon on the TV channel Real America’s Voice.
“And I think the American people have turned a corner after they watched that conviction come down in New York, to the point where it’s like, you know what? Screw New York,” the Georgia representative stated. “New York doesn’t deserve a damn penny. We shouldn’t fund them one single dime. Not a dime.”

Keep your big-budget extravaganzas and intellectual properties! These days, Hollywood actors are breathlessly lining up to join the Benoit Blanc Cinematic Universe. Ever since Rian Johnson singled-handedly revived the big screen whodunnit with 2019's "Knives Out," the mid-budget murder-mystery series has become the hottest destination for rising stars, A-listers, and under-sung veterans of the industry to flex their acting muscles as the various colorful characters that occupy this world. Even the property's shift from the theatrical market to the streaming landscape three years later with Netflix's "Glass Onion" wasn't enough to deter folks from flocking to these movies like they're the next "Dune" sequel.
Following the announcement of Johnson's third "Knives Out Mystery" last month (now officially titled "Wake Up Dead Man"), it's become a daily guessing game trying to figure out who will sign on to match wits with Daniel Craig's sharp-witted Southern sleuth Blanc next.

The series of murder mysteries that began with the 2019 film Knives Out and continued with the 2022 film Glass Onion is set to keep on going with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which has writer/director Rian Johnson back at the helm. Johnson and his collaborators are being very secretive about this project right now, but there’s a lot of hype for it – so we figured this would be a good time to start assembling a list of Everything We Know About Wake Up Dead Man. MultiVersus, the recently launched free-to-play platform fighter, isn’t shying away from a little friendly fire by poking fun at DC’s characters and actors. In a hilarious nod to DC Comics’ 2022 box office struggles via the film Black Adam, the game playfully throws some shade at Dwayne Johnson’s highly-memed statement – “The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change”.
MultiVersus Pokes Fun at a Certain Dwayne Johnson Statement
MultiVersus officially launched on May 28, 2024.
In a clip from the game, Joker can be seen interacting with Black Adam and taking a jab at him with the line “Weren’t you supposed to be rearranging the hierarchy or something?”. This is a reference to The Rock’s big push for the character to become a centerpiece of the old Dceu.

Jenna Johnson has revealed her dream dance partners as Dancing With the Stars Season 33 approaches.
Johnson appeared in DWTS Season 32, where she tried to guide model Tyson Beckford to the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
Unfortunately, Beckford was eliminated earlier than Johnson’s previous dance partners due to an average score of 15.0 per dance.
Before that, Johnson and her celebrity partners for the five previous seasons finished among the top eight contestants.
That included a Season 26 win alongside Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon and back-to-back second-place finishes in Seasons 29 and 30.
She recently talked about who she’d love to work with, whether it’s DWTS’ regular format with new celebrity contestants or an All-Star edition.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vowed to change the "hierarchy of power" within the Dceu with 2022's Black Adam. The movie was meant to be a fan-pleasing blockbuster which launched a new version of this shared world that, in Johnson's eyes, revolved around his anti-hero.
He reportedly went behind the backs of executives to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman, refused to share the screen with Zachary Levi's Shazam, and hoped to launch everything from a Justice Society movie to Hawkman as part of a slate he and Seven Bucks Productions would oversee.
Black Adam proved to be a mess of a movie with murky visuals and hit-and-miss CGI. Crucially, box office numbers weren't good, reviews were even worse, and Johnson soured people on this already struggling franchise enough to impact 2023's Dceu titles negatively.

Despite returning to WWE, following his DC exit, Dwayne Johnson’s tenure, particularly at the DC Universe, seems to be marred by recent allegations surrounding his Black Adam project. To add to the disgrace of arguably the most controversial movie of the actor’s life, stories are surfacing about the making of the Dceu movie with CGI and stunt double.
Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam | Warner Bros. DC Studios
With the latest report about the production of Black Adam arriving from popular wrestling journalist Jim Cornette, it has been revealed that Dwayne Johnson extensively used his stunt double to shoot several scenes. Later on, CGI was employed to replace the stunt double’s face with Johnson’s, in those particular scenes. This revelation comes in the wake of reports shedding light on Johnson’s habit of arriving hours late to movie sets.

After four days of celebrating and acknowledging Canadian achievements on screens of all shapes and sizes the winners were announced at a ceremony on Friday night. Critic, podcaster, and film journalist Scott Wampler passed away on May 31 due to unknown causes, as shared by his “Kingcast” co-host Eric Vespe on Friday.
But, as sad as his passing is, we expect that Scott Wampler wouldn’t want tears. He would want you screaming. He would want you wailing in agony, convulsing in terror, blood shooting out of every orifice. He would want you laughing until you cried, thinking in ways that didn’t make your brain hurt, and engaging with one another cause he knew that it’s the only way to make sense of this silly, scary world.
He spent his professional life making genre entertainment, particularly horror, accessible to the masses and sharing his passion with not just outsized glee, but downright fervor. He loved movies and television that made you squirm and he made us love them too. He found beauty and art in...

Stitches and Glue, the London-based puppet and creature makers, are the unsung creative force pulling the strings in “Eric.” The Netflix limited series, which explores the ugly underbelly of New York City in the 1980s, contains a cheerful side in the form of “Good Day Sunshine,” a popular children’s TV puppet series.
Benedict Cumberbatch plays desperate puppeteer Vincent from “Good Day Sunshine,” who goes on a quest to find his missing 9-year-old son, Edgar (Ivan Howe), with the help of Eric, a 7-foot-tall blue monster inspired by Edgar’s drawings. Stitches and Glue (run by Paul Vincett and Becky Johnson) were responsible for creating all of the puppets for the show within the series for their portion of the shoot. In addition, they made the full-size animatronic Eric, who performed alongside Cumberbatch.

Sony Pictures has made a bold statement by confirming it will use Artificial Intelligence to produce future movies and TV shows.
Chief executive Tony Vinciquerra recently attended an investor conference in Japan and told attendees that the studio is "very focused on AI" as they look to cut costs.
"We'll be looking at ways to use AI to produce films for theaters and television in more efficient ways, using AI primarily," Vinciquerra said.
He'd later add, "The agreements that came out of last year’s strikes and the agreements that will come out of the IATSE and Teamster [negotiations] will define roughly what we do with AI."
He's referring to the ongoing negotiations between Hollywood's major crew union and top studios; the fear is that AI tools like OpenAI's "Sora" will undermine labour from crewmembers and talent. Now, the IATSE hopes to secure the same guarantees as actors and writers...

Update: As has become traditional for the new Knives Out entry, yet another cast member has been announced. Mila Kunis will also, according to Deadline, be among the ensemble.
With the writer/director preparing to shoot the new film – once again starring Daniel Craig as drawling detective Benoit Blanc – in the UK from June, he's been busy gathering the typically star-packed ensemble to power the latest mystery (described as "the most dangerous case" of Blanc's career to date).
Following his tragic, near-fatal snow plough accident in 2022, Jeremy Renner faced a tough road to recovery. But recover he has, with a new season of Mayor Of Kingstown already in the can (and debuting this week) and now a big new film role to add to his return. Renner is the latest name to join the cast list for Rian Johnson's Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Thanksgiving may be months away, but audiences are already getting ready to feast on Moana 2.
A trailer for the movie was viewed by 178 million people in its first 24 hours this week, more than any other trailer for a film in the history of Disney’s animated empire, which is made up of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar. (Moana is from Disney Animation.)
In terms of trailer viewership, the previous record for Pixar was Inside Out 2 (157 million), and the best for Disney Animation was Frozen 2 (116 million). The Moana 2 trailer also came in above Pixar’s Incredibles 2 (113 million).
The Moana 2 trailer will play before Inside Out 2, which opens in theaters June 14. The upcoming Pixar sequel is tracking to open to $80 million-$85 million, although one service believes it will cross $90 million. Both films are good news for Disney’s animation empire, as Pixar, in particular, has been struggling.
