Tracy Chapman brought down the house with a stunning performance of “Fast Cars” alongside Luke Combs. Joni Mitchell earned a rousing ovation for her first performance on the Grammy stage, singing “Both Sides Now” while backed by Brandi Carlile, Allison Russell, Sistastrings, Lucius, Jacob Collier, and Blake Mills. And Celine Dion, who is suffering from stiff person syndrome, put in a surprise appearance as presenter of the Album of the Year award.

Glowing floor panels, pulsing lights, futuristic furniture, people standing at consoles with a look of intense concentration on their faces as information is displayed across a gigantic viewscreen. It all brings to mind one question – are you watching the latest big budget space opera, or have switched on a mid-afternoon weekday quiz show?
It doesn’t matter whether you’re watching Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel or Warwick Davis’ Tenable, there is something about the current generation of game show sets that leaves you never quite certain if the presenter is going to ask you what Madonna’s biggest selling single was, or order you to go to Warp 5.
Of course, it wasn’t always this way. There was a time where game shows looked more like faded end-of-pier variety shows, with velvet curtains and palettes of drab oranges, browns and beige. The lighting was as flat and boring as possible,...

This article will contain spoilers for the ending(s) of the 2018 film "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch."
In 2018, director David Slade and screenwriter Charlie Brooker (co-showrunner of "Black Mirror") teamed up with Netflix to try out something that hadn't been attempted too many times in the past. Using a kind of basic "branching video" technology, their "Black Mirror" feature film "Bandersnatch" could be watched as a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-style interactive experience, letting a viewer decide how the story would progress. About ten minutes of the film would elapse before the main character Stefan (Fionn Whitehead) was faced with a decision, major or minor. On the bottom of the screen, two buttons would appear, and the viewer could dictate Stefan's choice using their remote control. Fittingly, the plot of the movie involved 1984-era computer programmers attempting to build their very own Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-style video game, based on his late mother's fictional novel "Bandersnatch."
Patient viewers who watched through "Bandersnatch" several times,...

Is there a Taylor’s Version of “Thor: Love and Thunder” yet?
Writer/director Taika Waititi revealed the genesis of the unexpected nod to Taylor Swift in the latest MCU installment, now in theaters. The scene-stealing screaming goats that act as sidekicks to the titular Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Jane Foster aka newest hero Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) had a special connection to none other than Emmy winner Swift.
“The goats were always going to be in there because they are in the comics, but we didn’t know how they would sound,” Waititi told Insider. “They were never meant to be screaming. Then someone in post-production found this meme of a Taylor Swift song that has screaming goats in it. I didn’t even know that existed. So I hear the screaming goats and I just felt it was awesome.”
Waititi clarified, “A lot of people think it’s me screaming.

After a plethora of CGI creatures in The Hobbit trilogy, practical Orcs are back in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series headed to Amazon Prime Video.
“In an interview with Jamie Wilson, head of the prosthetics department on The Rings of Power, and Lindsey Weber, an executive producer for the series, we get more details on how the forces of evil will operate in this period of Tolkien’s vast fantasy saga. ‘We spent a lot of time talking about what it would mean to be an Orc in the Second Age. It felt appropriate that their look would be different, part of a wilder, more raw, Second Age, Middle-earth, closer to where the First Age ends.’ Weber said, describing the more desiccated, haunted look of the orcs that we see in the preview images that IGN has been given. ‘As we meet them, they’re not yet organized into armies,...

Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher Almost Had a Kate Bush Dance Scene in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’
Kate Bush has already experienced a renaissance thanks to Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” which featured her song “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” in Season 4, and our new Kate Bush moment could have been even bigger if a certain scene made it into “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Christian Bale, who will portray Gorr the God Butcher in the upcoming MCU Film, told Total Film Magazine about scrapped plans for a potential dance scene set to Bush’s music, though he didn’t mention a specific song.
“Taika [Waititi] and I wanted to do a whole dance, which we didn’t get to do, but we had all this sort of Kate Bush stuff that we worked at,” Bale said. “But I think he just realised he was never going to be allowed to put that in the final film. I would say that the most common thing I was...

Kate Bush is all the rage right now thanks to “Stranger Things 4” featuring “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God),” and the singer’s popularity would’ve extended to the Marvel Cinematic Universe had Taika Waititi gone through with plans to include a Bush-inspired dance scene in the film. Christian Bale, who stars in the film as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher, recently revealed to Total Film magazine that he worked on a dance scene for the movie that never made it into the filming schedule.

Mount Meru, one of the tallest mountains in the world, is surrounded by eight seas and eight mountains. It is considered by many to be the center of the universe — physically, metaphysically, and spiritually. But it is probably the hardest mountain to get to, and even harder to stay on. Would you make the trip? Or would you see more by exploring its eight satellite peaks and waters? What if once you get up there, you still don’t feel complete? What will give your life meaning instead?
Pietro (Luca Marinelli at his strongest physically and most complex and tender emotionally) never stops thinking about these questions. It’s all he asks himself as he yearns for the mountains until the summer comes and he can climb the Italian Alps again, with his father – trying desperately to understand a son he can’t see himself in – and best friend, Bruno...

As a result of dedicating my life to thinking about Elon Musk as little as possible, I know very little about Grimes. The songwriter and visual artist – who has described her music as “post-internet” and an aspirational combination of Mariah Carey and Aphex Twin – is often lumped together with her billionaire partner, and the two are inexorably linked through both their transhumanism aesthetic and their, ah, social media blunders.

Aphex Twin has updated his not-so-secret SoundCloud page with a batch of new music, including six previously unheard songs in the past week.
Resident Advisor first reported on the latest drop from “user18081971,” which for five years has hosted hundreds of unreleased songs from the electronic music pioneer’s vaults; although the username seems random, 18081971 corresponds with Richard D. James’ August 18th, 1971 birthdate.
The new songs include ambient tracks like “qu 1” and “s8v1 [brooklyn],” the downbeat “prememory100N pt2,” the bass-heavy “m11st Ion,” “Tha2” and its remix “Tha2 [world scam mix].”

Not long after Oliver Tree released the video for “All That x Alien Boy” — in which the bowl-cutted singer gets bowled over by a minivan, staggers to his feet bloody but unbowed, finds his way to a monster truck, and uses it to wreak vengeance on his attacker — Jeff Levin watched the clip nearly ruin a relationship.
“I was sitting with a couple, two of my closest friends in the world, and we were all watching the video,” says Levin, who has spent the last seven years in the A&r department at Atlantic Records.

More than one person was overheard saying, “I never thought this day would come” like some glitchy messiah had landed in Brooklyn from his British home.
On Thursday night, Richard D. James – the mercurial, genre-hopping madman, elusive musician and media-trolling recluse who, under Aphex Twin and other names, has become his own cottage electronic music industry – took his spot in the center of the stage at Brooklyn club Avant Gardner.

Southern California transportation officials are working on a plan to use Amtrak trains to help to ease traffic gridlock to and from the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
The Riverside County Transportation Commission says it has received $8.6 million in funding for temporary train service that would run from Los Angeles to the city of Indio, according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
The funding would include $5.9 million from the state, with another $2.7 coming from the county. The trains would pick passengers up at Union Station in downtown L.A. and travel about two hours to the Coachella Valley. Attendees would then board shuttle buses to the concert grounds.
The goal is to have the service ready for the 2020 Coachella and Stagecoach Country Music festivals.
This year’s Coachella fest is set to take place from April 12-14, and then return April 19-21, with Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, and Ariana Grande announced as headliners.

The latest album from American Idol‘s first “country” winner is “the next step, a modern country album pivoting into pop and r&b without going full Taylor, while also showing the kind of character more mega-stars should aspire to,” writes Will Hermes. “The songcraft is grade-a mall soundtracking, and credit Underwood’s mighty mezzo-ish soprano with selling even the lesser ones.”

Gaspar Noé has probably never been likened to Lazarus before – or any other saint, for that matter – but he’s fully earned himself the comparison with Climax, which constitutes a miraculous comeback after the nadir that was Love. It has all the in-your-face trademarks of the Noé brand, but here they’re packaged in a compact, expertly crafted horror flick that transcends its puerility to achieve something altogether sublime.
The immediately entrancing prelude provides a moderate intimation of what’s to come. A blinding, total whiteness is revealed to be a top-down drone shot of a snowy landscape when a girl staggers into the frame, bloodied and screaming, and then falls to the ground, flailing her arms to make a grotesque snow angel. After observing this spectacle for a little while longer, the drone flies on, and that’s the last blood we’ll see for the next hour or so.

Have you guys heard about millennials? Well, Drake Doremus has — he’s one of them! — and he’s got some thoughts about all that random sex they’re having. Doremus, who won Sundance with 2011’s sensitively simple “Like Crazy,” has never met a flimsy romantic premise he couldn’t populate with beautiful people and banal observations. It was only a matter of time before this prolific indie auteur turned his eye toward the hedonistic thunderdome of dating apps.
Set in contemporary Los Angeles, “Newness” tells the story of two horny (but also sad) twentysomethings who mysteriously regain their feelings and fall in love, causing tensions between themselves and their society. This is not to be confused with Doremus’ last film, the sci-fi slog “Equals,” which was set in an emotionless utopia where two horny (but also sad) twentysomethings mysteriously regain their feelings and fall in love, causing tensions between them and their society.

After garnering rave reviews for his stint at Day For Night festival this month, Aphex Twin has returned over the weekend to upload a new track to his SoundCloud account user18081971. The nonsensically titled “tnodvood104” serves as the notorious producer’s first upload to the channel in four months, and follows up the Cheetah Ep he released over the summer.
“Tnodvood104” ranks among Aphex Twin’s classic ambient techno material, led by an old school drum machine rhythm coupled with haunting ambience and metallic noise samples. As the track pushes forward, a discordant choir joins the mix, bringing a haunting edge to the music as the simple beat drifts on.
It’s interesting to note that the word “Voodoo” has been written under the track’s genre tag, which suggests the possibility that Aphex Twin will surface on the lineup for next year’s Voodoo Fest. For now that’s the only clue we have,...

There’s no denying that Aphex Twin has been enjoying a spectacular career revival. After slipping into relative obscurity after the release of his 2001 LP Drukqs, he returned in 2014 with the Grammy award winning album Syro, followed up with the Cheetah Ep earlier this summer. Soon after that release, it was revealed that the eccentric producer would be delivering his first stateside performance in eight years at Day For Night‘s 2016 outing.
Now that Aphex Twin’s monumental return to the Us festival circuit has come and passed, it should come as no surprise that a number of videos have surfaced of the historic performance. While the epic nature of Aphex Twin’s latest show can’t really be done justice by low quality footage, the videos serve as a tantalizing transport to one of the year’s most anticipated DJ sets.

Abel Korzeniowski once again joined forces with Tom Ford for his latest film “Nocturnal Animals.” The composer, who earned his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Score with Ford’s directorial debut “A Single Man,” created an intense and spell-binding score to accompany the designer-turned-director’s haunting romantic thriller.
Korzeniowski described his newest creation as “embracing two extremes, but switching their traditional genre characterization. Adding in a press release that, “The crime plot is scored as an intimate, personal story, while the psychological drama is treated as a thriller. The cold and detached intertwines with poignant and excruciating, the simple and intimate becomes grand and bold.”
The soundtrack features 13 original songs and was digitally released on Back Lot Music on November 4. The physical copy will arrive November 18 via Silva Screen Records.

Since its premiere at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this year, Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight” has garnered widespread critical acclaim and has grossed over $3 million. The film follows the life of Chiron from childhood to early adulthood as he struggles with his environment and his budding sexuality. Though its performances and Jenkins’ direction have received much attention, the film’s score and soundtrack are worthy of notice as well. Watch a montage below from A24 featuring clips from “Moonlight” and a selection of songs from the film, including “Classic Man” by Jidenna (feat. Marilyn Manson told The Daily Beast that it’s his duty as an artist to ask the questions and have the viewers answer them. So what is he trying to say in his new music video for “Say10?”
The singer shared a gory Nsfw clip on Election Day which shows him sitting on a throne, ripping pages from a bible, then panning over to a beheaded man who resembles the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. The video is directed by Tyler Shields, and while it doesn’t mention that it’s Trump, Manson told the publication that the piece is open to interpretation.

Two years ago, acclaimed electronic artist Aphex Twin, the stage name for Richard David James, released his first studio album since 2001. The album “Syro” was a critical success, landing on Pitchfork’s top 5 albums of 2014 list and winning a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic album. Since then, Aphex Twin has released two EPs — “Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments pt2” in 2015 and “Cheetah” in 2016 — and will soon play his first show in the United States in over eight years.

Anticipation for 2017’s major festivals is at an all time high, with Coachella‘s lineup serving as the holy grail of the entire season. We’ve already heard some rumors about the alleged headliners, while DJ Khaled inadvertently spilled the beans on his slot at the festival. Now we have another enticing update to ponder with a list that attempts to predict the entire lineup.
A website called TravelGrom has consistently made predictions about Coachella lineups in the past with a high degree of accuracy compared to the average rumor, and they’ve just offered up their projections for 2017. While the information is just conjecture at this point, TravelGrom predicted last year’s lineup with 64% accuracy. If that figure holds true again, over half of the list will wind up on the official lineup.
The alleged lineup includes a diverse array of styles, with representation from Edm, Rock, Rap, Pop and everything in between.

Aphex Twin has built a reputation as one of electronic music’s most influential producers, releasing a slew of experimental albums throughout the 90’s with efforts like Selected Ambient Works Volume I and Richard D James album. Following 2001’s Drukqs, however, the Cornish musician’s prolific output went largely cold with just a few releases under alternate monikers Afx and The Tuss, while his live performances became more scarce as well, with his last stateside gig going down at Coachella in 2008.
Thankfully, his release schedule has picked up steam again in recent years, with his latest, Cheetah Ep coming out earlier in the year, while 2014’s Syro went on to earn a Grammy. Now, after sharing a Tweet yesterday, Aphex Twin has revealed that he will be breaking his lengthy hiatus from performing in the Us with the announcement of his first show in eight years.

Aphex Twin‘s new Ep Cheetah is due out later this week, but fans can now stream the full release before it drops. A number of cuts from the Ep have already surfaced on the internet, and the full collection could be heard at Warp Records booth at Namm. Now, though, thanks to Tom Robinson, you can check out the whole thing on his BBC Radio 6 show.
Cheetah is a foray into Aphex Twin’s love of analog gear, and the Ep takes its name from the Cheetah MS800 synthesizer, which was used to create the signature sound heard on the collection of songs. Most of the cuts feature an old school sound, with simple drum machine beats, squlechy basslines and warped, ambient synths.

Electronic music mastermind Aphex Twin has shared two more songs from his upcoming Cheetah Ep, debuting “CHEETAH7B” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show, while “2X202-TS5” was premiered on Lauren Laverne’s BBC Radio 6 program.
“CHEETAH7B” is a subdued number, featuring a minimalist production with a simple four on the floor beat, ghostly synths and a consistent bass sequence. The seven minute long track evokes the repetitive nature of Aphex Twin’s early ambient techno work, as the producer slowly introduces new layers throughout its lengthy run time. “2X202-TS5” is a bit more upbeat, featuring old school drum machine beats, warbly synth pads, and a bouncy bassline. You can listen to “2X202-TS5” here, around the 1:56:00 mark.
Stylistically, Aphex Twin seems to be drawing on his older material, working in his signature acid house and ambient techno sound palettes while expanding on the sound of his last album Syro.

It’s been over a decade since Richard James released a storied string of Aphex Twin music videos, including the fiendish hip-hop musical extravaganza Windowlicker (directed by Chris Cunningham and embedded below). Iconic electronic artist Aphex Twin, A.K.A. Richard D. James, has been releasing work since the early 1990’s. His most recent album “Syro” was released in 2014, 13 years after his last release “Drukqs.” “Syro” received widespread critical acclaim, winning a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album and placed at number four on Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2014 list.
Now, Aphex Twin has a new Ep coming out this summer, and he has released his first music video in 17 years to commemorate it, and he got a Irish pre-teen to direct it. 12-year-old Ryan Wyer directed the “CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ]” video, featuring his friends and family dancing around to the song wearing Aphex Twin t-shirts and occasionally wearing the infamous Richard D. James mask (from the cover of the “Richard D. James Album”). Aphex Twin apparently discovered Wyer through his YouTube channel and gave him the opportunity to direct his video. Watch the video below.

In case you suspected that Aphex Twin‘s return to electronic music would turn out to be a flash in the pan, his most recent announcement proves otherwise. After winning the Grammy for Best Dance Album for his 2014 album Syro, the widely influential producer has revealed a new project in the works titled Cheetah Ep.
Where most of his recent releases (like last November’s “Avril Altdelay”) emerged via obscure SoundCloud accounts, Aphex Twin announced the Cheetah Ep by sending print advertisements to a handful of UK record stores. The pamphlets give a subtle nod to the corporate logo mockery style adopted by electronic music brands of the ’90s by imitating literature that would accompany computer hardware of the same era.

2015 has been something of a landmark year for full-length albums in the electronic music genre. In a way, it’s a sign of the times. The Edm movement has reached what many speculate will be remembered as its peak, and in an effort to stay relevant in the mainstream market, tastemakers of the genre have spent more time on original productions.
The trend has ultimately translated to a higher number of studio efforts from Edm artists hitting the market over the past couple of years – including many hot-button artists of dance music’s bygone era managing to prove that they can still compete in the modern arena.

Few electronic music artists have built as cryptic a brand around themselves as Aphex Twin. The avant-garde UK producer became so ubiquitous a name in electronic music over the course of the ’90s that he came to influence the likes of The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kanye West – and then inexplicably faded into obscurity before re-emerging over the past couple years with enough new music to win him a Grammy (the ceremony of which he famously didn’t attend).
Keeping with his listener-be-damned distribution methodology, Aphex Twin has spent the past year uploading ambient productions through a revolving door of SoundCloud accounts. Through the most recent of them, he’s released “Avril Altdelay,” an eery variation of the piano tune “Avril 14″ from his 2001 album, Drukqs. An ethereal pitch oscillation adds a chilling dissonance that wasn’t present in the original, as if the piano were out of tune yet still following some extraterrestrial scale.
