Plans for an American take on André Øvredal's 2010 Troll Hunter have been in the works since 2011 when Christopher Columbus secured the film rights. Today, Deadline reports that Neil Marshall ( The Descent , Doomsday ) will both write and direct with an early 2014 shoot being targeted. Marc Haimes previously drafted the script for the film, which purports to be footage found from a documentary being made by a group of students who are tracking a mysterious hunter who they learn is ridding the countryside of giant rogue trolls. Columbus will produce the film with 1492's Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe and Cj Entertainment. Original producers John M. Jacobsen and Sveinung Golimo will also be involved.

Last year's festival hit, Norway's Troll Hunter is coming to the States without any of that pesky subtitling. Yes, an American version of the monster-chasing mockumentary is in the works - from Chris Columbus. Columbus will produce along with John M. Jacobsen, who produced the original. More after the break. "Troll Hunter was a visceral, thrilling, cinematic rock and roller coaster ride of a movie. Visually, there are scenes in this film that American audiences have never seen. We want to introduce an international audience to this amazing moviegoing experience," said Columbus. Here's hoping it is more Goonies and less Harry Potter. Source: Deadline.com...

Although back in November, 2010, it was reported that Universal had acquired remake rights to the outstanding Norwegian cinéma-vérité style film Troll Hunter, it looks like those rights have instead landed at Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures in a partnership with Cj Entertainment & Media.
According to Deadline Marc Haimes is set to write the script. Columbus will produce with 1492 partners Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe along with Cj Entertainment. Filmkameratene As’s John M. Jacobsen (who produced the original) will also be a producer with his partner Sveinung Golimo.
Interestingly enough, the deal comes just as Magnolia opens the original Troll Hunter (review here) in a limited Us theatrical rollout that begins today (see dates and locations below).

One of Hollywood's current fads is for supernatural tales based on the fictional discovery of video recordings.
The Blair Witch Project reignited the 'found footage' genre in 1999, and we've recently had such mockumentary releases as Cloverfield (2008), Paranormal Activity (2009), The Fourth Kind (2009) and Last Exorcism (2010).
Next on the list is Dark Moon, from The Fourth Kind's writer-director Olatunde Osunsanmi (pictured above).
Warner Bros has picked up the project, which will also be directed by Olatunde and is based on the idea that lunar missions continued in secret after Apollo 17.
Deadline says the project "follows a black ops post-Apollo mission sent to the moon to explore previously classified discoveries and its unintended and disturbing consequences."
Meanwhile, Magnet Releasing, part of Magnolia Pictures, has picked up global distribution rights (excluding Europe) for Norwegian monster movie The Troll Hunter. It's expected to hit cinemas in 2011.

We've talked about this fun looking Norwegian film called The Troll Hunter on the site before, showed you a couple of trailers, and now we're here to tell you that the movie found itself a distributor. It was recently picked up by Magnet Releasing, and the film will find it's way into theaters sometime in 2011.
The film is described as a "tongue-in-cheek moc-doc that proposes that the Norwegian government has been hiding the fact that they have a secret population of trolls - real, actual trolls - living on game preserves in the far north of the country, kept safe and secure and out of the public eye to prevent mass panic should people realize that these fairy tale creatures are real. Those high tension power lines you see stretching out over the horizon in unpopulated areas, seemingly going nowhere? Not power lines at all but an electric fence to keep the beasts contained!
