When artists are compared to The Beatles, it’s usually meant as a compliment. However, Michael Jackson was upset when someone said The Jackson 5 were “the Black Beatles.” He had a point! On top of that, The Beatles and The Jackson 5 left behind very different legacies.
The Beatles and The Jackson 5 both inspired Saturday morning cartoons
Jermaine Jackson was a member of The Jackson 5. In his 2011 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine revealed that Motown had Fred Rice, the same marketing genius who helped The Beatles take over the world, merchandise The Jackson 5. The group inspired toys, clothing, and hair care products.
“He even started talking to New York animators Rankin/Bass, the makers of ABC’s The King Kong Show, about turning us into cartoon characters,” Jermaine wrote. “‘I’m going to have your faces everywhere,’ he said. ‘You’re the Black Beatles.

50 Cent and Michael Jackson are very different artists. However, the “Billie Jean” singer made a big impact on 50 Cent at a young age. In addition, 50 Cent and Jackson teamed up together to take on the press through music.
50 Cent was introduced to Michael Jackson’s music by his grandmother
During a 2022 interview with NME, 50 Cent named the songs that were the soundtrack of his life. He picked out several classic rap tracks, including Erik B & Rakim’s “Paid in Full,” Future’s “Karate Chop,” and The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize.” He also showed some love for songs outside of the rap genre, such as Bobby Womack’s “Across 110th Street” and, most bafflingly, Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”

For better or worse, Neverland Ranch is one of the most famous celebrity properties ever. Michael Jackson bought the ranch because of an experience he had while filming the music video for his Paul McCartney duet “Say Say Say.” “Say Say Say” stands out from his other collaborations with Paul for another reason.
Michael Jackson’s ‘Say Say Say’ was 1 of his multiple collaborations with Paul McCartney
Jermaine Jackson is the second most famous member of The Jackson 5. In his 2014 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine said his brother always wanted to collaborate with Paul. Paul wrote a song called “Girlfriend” that appeared on the album Off the Wall. In the 1980s, Paul and Michael released two hit duets together: “The Girl Is Mine” from Thriller and “Say Say Say” from Paul’s album Pipes of Peace. Only the latter has a music video.

The Michael Jackson biopic movie Michael, being directed by Antoine Fuqua from a script by John Logan, has been ramping up on the casting front since Deadline first broke the story of the project in January 2023. The film is underway on production ahead of an April 18, 2025 release date via Lionsgate and Universal.
The film will focus on Jackson’s career highlights beginning with the days he fronted the Jackson 5 to becoming the world’s biggest star but also deal with the pedophile accusations that dogged his later years up to his death in 2009 at age 50.
Casting started at the beginning. when Fuqua and producer Graham King tapped Jackson’s nephew and Jermaine Jackson’s son Jaafar to portray Michael in the singer’s prime. Juliano Krue Valdi has been set as the young Michael.

Michael Jackson‘s “Man in the Mirror” is the rare pop song with a great message — a message Jesus Christ might have liked. In fact, the song seems like a paraphrase of one of the most famous passages from the gospels. Here’s a look at the spiritual dimensions of one of Jackson’s best ballads.
Michael Jackson’s ‘Man in the Mirror’ is like the Sermon on the Mount
Some of Jesus Christ’s most famous teachings are in his Sermon on the Mount. Some of these statements are certainly challenging! “Do not judge, or you too will be judged,” Jesus says in Matthew 7. “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?...

Michael Jackson helped define the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. For that reason, he will forever be known as one of the greatest geniuses in the history of pop and R&b music. However, the King of Pop watched another singer from the same time period in awe. He was lucky enough to watch this singer record one of the most acclaimed albums of all time.

Michael Jackson‘s “Smooth Criminal” doesn’t seem too provocative. However, one artistic choice in the song’s music video caused Jackson to leave his religion. He later looked to another celebrity for spiritual guidance.

Michael Jackson‘s stardom began with the release of The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” It took a lot to record that song and Jackson learned from the experience. The song also became the first of four No. 1 singles by The Jackson 5.
What the producer of The Jackson 5’s ‘I Want You Back’ said to Michael Jackson
Berry Gordy was the founder of Motown. He also served as one of the producers of The Jackson 5’s first (and perhaps most popular) single: “I Want You Back. In his 2011 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, The Jackson 5’s Jermaine Jackson discussed what Gordy did during the recording of “I Want You Back.”

Jermaine Jackson was a member of The Jackson 5. Michael Jackson‘s “Smooth Criminal” is Satanic. It’s not a song about Satan or the occult, but it is a song about a Satanist. The King of Pop worried this could cause controversy for multiple reasons. “Smooth Criminal” wasn’t one of the biggest hits from that era of Jackson’s career, but it produced a hit cover.
Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’ was inspired by a killer who worshipped Satan
Jermaine Jackson was a member of The Jackson 5. In his 2011 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine noted the Al Capone theme of the “Smooth Criminal” video. “‘Smooth Criminal’ was actually inspired by a serial killer who spread fear throughout Los Angeles and San Francisco between 1984 and 1985,” Jermaine wrote.

Michael Jackson‘s brother, Jermaine Jackson of The Jackson 5, made a bold statement about the King of Pop. Jermaine felt his brother’s life would have been saved if he had made one decision. Interestingly, it is a decision Jermaine made himself.
Michael Jackson’s brother, Jermaine Jackson, wanted him to convert to another religion

He was reading a lot of books, because I brought him books from Saudi Arabia. I brought him books from Bahrain.”
Jermaine explained he wanted Michael to relocate to Bahrain, a small Muslim nation. “I was the one who originally put him in Bahrain because I wanted him to get out of America because it was having a cherry-picking time on my brother,” he revealed.

Michael Jackson‘s biggest hits were all inspired by one style of music — and it’s not pop. It’s not even modern. One of the other members of The Jackson 5 explained the King of Pop’s “scientific” approach to songwriting.

Jermaine Jackson was a member of The Jackson 5. In his 2011 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine had great insight into his brother’s musical compositions. The King of Pop felt music was a “science” and he wanted to study it the same way that scientists study DNA. Jermaine revealed that the “Thriller” singer tried to listen to classical pieces as much as possible in order to study their compositions. He also felt that different pieces had different “colors” and he discussed these colors with his brother.

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic Michael has the approval of his estate and will even star his own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, but according to a new report, it’ll also mark the very first time any estate-affiliated project will address Jackson’s allegations of sexual misconduct — albeit in such a way to cast doubt on his accusers.
According to Puck News’ Matthew Belloni, who obtained an early script of the biopic, the film is quite flattering of Jackson and “wants very much to convince you Michael is innocent.” To that end, it addresses the controversies very directly, even beginning with a depiction of Jackson being raided by police in the aftermath of Jordan Chandler’s allegations in 1993.
As Belloni describes it, the script for Michael — which may be far from the finished product, he noted — goes to “great lengths to minimize and downplay the actual claims and eviscerate the Chandlers.

“Michael,” the splashy forthcoming biopic about Michael Jackson from director Antoine Fuqua, has added actor Laura Harrier in a key role.
Harrier, of “BlacKkKlansman” and “Spider-man: Homecoming” fame, will portray pioneering female music executive Suzanne de Passe in the Lionsgate project.
De Passe was a creative assistant to Motown founder Berry Gordy, and is credited with convincing Gordy to sign The Jackson 5 to his label. Jermaine Jackson is being sued for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in 1988.
The lawsuit, filed on December 27 by Rita Butler Barrett, charges Jackson with sexual battery, battery, sexual assault and negligence.
In addition to suing Jermaine himself, Barrett is also suing his company, Jermaine L. Jackson Music Productions, and Work Records Inc.
Barrett alleges that Jackson showed up at her house unannounced and then assaulted her. She claims that she met Jackson through her work as a music contractor.
“Defendant Jackson forced himself into Plaintiff’s home, and with force and violence sexually assaulted Plaintiff,” the suit stated. “During the assault, Plaintiff, a woman of faith prayed to God for help. During the assault, Plaintiff feared for her life. After the assault and when Defendant Jackson was satiated, he left the residence.”
Motown founder Berry Gordy is also cited in the lawsuit, as Barrett claims that Gordy protected Jermaine for financial reasons.

Now that projects are hoping to move forward after the creative unions and the studios settle their disputes, The Wrap has revealed that one of the productions that will be starting as soon as the SAG-AFTRA strike ends is Antoine Fuqua’s unenviable task of bringing the King of Pop’s story to the big screen. Michael will tell the story of Michael Jackson and the equally unenviable task of portraying the larger-than-life music icon falls on the shoulders of Jackson’s own nephew, Jafaar Jackson.
According to The Wrap, Michael locks Universal Pictures to distribute the biopic globally while Lionsgate will be producing the film as well as distributing the movie domestically. The film comes from Graham King, who also served as a producer on another big musical biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, which grossed $911 million and earned Oscar wins. The upcoming Lionsgate biopic about Michael Jackson will star the late singer’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the leading role. Director Antoine Fuqua says that the resemblance between the two relatives is “uncanny.”
Jaafar is the 27-year-old son of Michael Jackson’s brother, Jermaine Jackson. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fuqua praised Jaafar’s performance in the film Michael.
“It’s uncanny how much he’s like Michael,” Fuqua said. “Sounds like him, dances like him, sings. It’s really uncanny. Graham King, who is a fantastic producer, found him and introduced him to me, and I was blown away.”
Michael is currently on hold as the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strike continues. Fuqua has suggested that the biopic will tell the singer’s story “as we know it” and will shine a light on his controversial legacy.

Whitney Houston had “the Voice.” It was trained, expressive, and clear. She didn’t write the songs she sang, but interpreted them, capturing the imagination of a generation. The first triple RIAA Diamond-certified-selling Black artist, Houston broke records set by the Beatles, Elvis, and Sinatra, which had nothing to do with racial divides. Now streaming on Netflix, I Wanna Dance with Somebody stars British actress Naomi Ackie, who plays Houston as a harried artist, only taking her time during performance, but rushed on and off the stage.
Directed by Kasi Lemmons and written by Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody), the musical biopic captures the melody of Houston’s life but also speeds the beat. It misses the rests between notes. Most of the erroneous materials come from narrative streamlining. For instance, Houston wasn’t discovered because her mother, the ever-professional Cissy Houston (Tamara Tunie), showed up at a club like Sweetwaters pretending to have laryngitis.

Director Antoine Fuqua’s forthcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has finally found its lead star.
Reports first emerged in 2019 that Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King had acquired the rights to make a film based on the life of the late singer in all of its “complexity”.
He had also acquired the rights to use all of Jackson’s music in the movie, which will explore the singer’s “complex life”.
Now, a few years later, with the Emancipation director officially attached, it has been revealed that Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson will portray his uncle in the movie.
“Jaafar embodies my son. It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers,” said Jackson’s mother, Katherine Jackson (via Variety).
Jaafar is the second youngest son of Jermaine Jackson, songwriter, producer, Jackson 5 member and older brother of Jackson.

Antoine Fuqua is keeping things close-knit for his upcoming Michael Jackson biopic. According to Deadline, Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will play the King of Pop in the Fuqua-directed film. Fuqua confirmed Jackson’s inclusion through Instagram. Fuqua’s social media update includes a photo of Jaafar dancing in a private studio with wall-to-wall mirrors. In the image, Jaafar is wearing Jackson’s signature black shoes made from Florsheim Imperial leather and a black fedora. Jaafar is striking a classic M.J. pose as he evaluates his moves from every angle.

In lieu of finding an A-list star to play the King of Pop, Lionsgate is keeping it in the family. Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, will play his uncle in the upcoming biopic “Michael,” it was announced January 30.
Jaafar Jackson is the son of Jackson 5 member and Michal Jackson’s brother Jermaine Jackson. Antoine Fuqua directs the film which will be 26-year-old Jaafar Jackson’s acting debut.
“I met Jaafar over two years ago and was blown away by the way he organically personifies the spirit and personality of Michael,” Graham King, a producer on the film, said in a statement. “It was something so powerful that even after conducting a worldwide search, it was clear that he is the only person to take on this role. I am beyond thrilled that he has come on board to portray his uncle and cannot wait for the world to...

Jaafar Jackson is portraying his uncle Michael Jackson in Lionsgate’s upcoming biopic “Michael,” directed by Antoine Fuqua.
“Michael” is expected to depict the complicated legacy of the man who became known as the King of Pop. According to the studio, the film will explore all aspects of his life, “including his most iconic performances that led him to become the greatest entertainer of all time.”
The film is being made with the cooperation of the Michael Jackson estate, which may influence the way “Michael” depicts the multiple allegations of child sexual abuse that were brought against Jackson during his career and following his death. Jackson has denied allegations of child sexual abuse and he was tried, and found not guilty, of child molestation in 2003. Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50 and always maintained his innocence, but the claims continue to cloud his legacy.

Antoine Fuqua has moonwalked into the director’s chair for a new Michael Jackson biopic, which will star Jackson’s 26-year-old nephew, Jaafar Jackson.
As previously reported, the script for Michael comes from John Logan, the screenwriter behind several good movies and a few duds (Star Trek: Nemesis). According to Deadline, the film will “deal squarely with the pedophile accusations that dogged his later years up to his death in 2009 at age 50, from cardiac arrest caused by a cocktail of sedatives.” However, Michael comes with the blessing of the Jackson estate and will be produced by Graham King, best known for the toothless Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, so maybe don’t expect anything too damaging to the Jackson brand.
