Over the past decade it's taken more and more for a musical to really make an impact on me. I like to leave the theater changed, moved, or having learned something about myself or the human condition—especially if I'm paying $150. I enjoy watching wonderful actors and great choreography, but I've started to have a strong aversion to shows with songs that don't forward the plot. A show that does not fall into that category is "In the Heights," the best show I've seen since "Ragtime."I had just finished my first year as a company member at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival; between seasons I stopped in NYC to see this show I'd been hearing so much about. It was closing on Broadway, and my friend Chris Jackson was rejoining the cast along with the creator and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda. I expected to be entertained as I had been by every.

What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly collection of things that serious movie lovers will find interesting, useful, or both. We begin this evening with an image from the website of the La Times, who are featuring great reader photos chronicling Southern California moments. This one, by a gentleman named Chris Jackson, is of a street performer dressed as Spock on Hollywood Boulevard. Awesome costume. No, I don’t want a photo. No, I will not tip you. No, stop touching my girlfriend’s thigh. Live long and prosper, now get away from me. Peter Jackson has added one last famous face to the cast of The Hobbit. Billy Connolly will play Dain Ironfoot, a Dwarf warrior. He will undoubtedly be a total badass leather-wearing dwarf who has no less than 35 guns on his person at one time. He will also have two sons, one of which will grow up to be a chubby...

When Sara Ramirez isn't repairing broken bones or melting your heart as out doctor Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy, she's busy looking out for your liver through the Al D. Rodriguez Liver Foundation, a nonprofit organization in which she serves as a board member.
Created and named after the loss of her "gay husband" and best friend, Ramirez is equally passionate about liver health as she is for gay rights. Ahead of Monday's inaugural Broadway Takes the Runway: An Evening of Fashion and Song fundraiser — in which the Tony winner will take the stage and sing show tunes — AfterEllen.com caught up with Ramirez to talk about her philanthropy, gay rights and, yes, what's next for primetime's leading lesbian couple.
AfterEllen.com: What does it feel like to be adored by countless lesbians?
Sara Ramirez: (Laughs.) It feels awesome! Hey, look, it's love. It doesn't matter who it's from.

After triumphing for two years in a row, Jake Gyllenhaal is not the winner of our third annual AfterElton.com Hot 100 poll (see the results for 2007 here and 2008 here). So which out man did take the top spot? If you’re the kind of person who always burns their mouth biting into that piping hot chocolate chip cookie, you can just cheat and go here to learn who came in first place.
Here at AfterElton.com, we’re thrilled to announce an out gay man topped this year’s list – especially this particular man as most of us voted for him as well. In fact, out gay men snagged nearly 20% of the spots, including the top three. To be sure, we’ve nothing against our straight male crushes, but it says something great about 2009 that there are so many out men to choose from.

Hollywood is famous for its abundance of hot actors, but the New York theater has its own cadre of guys who are seething with sex appeal. Here's our tribute to some of the fabulous fellows you're likely to find performing on stage in NYC. We tried to cast a wide net, so in addition to such pretty Broadway faces as Cheyenne Jackson and Matt Cavenaugh, you'll find less well-known but no less smokin' hot men who have made their mark Off- and Off-Off-Broadway.
We'd love to have your feedback, but before you begin noting who we left out, please know the criteria we used for our selections. We wanted to focus on men who are truly part of the fabric of New York theater, so we leaned toward those who've been consistently active in this arena over the past few years and/or have had two or more major roles during that time.

Our good pal Todd over at Twitch has just given us a very generous Christmas present. Together with Caachi Films, they're streaming Robert Pratten's Cronenbergian mind-f**k, Mindflesh, in it's entirety until December 14th.

Thanks again Todd. It's really too much, you shouldn't have.
And if you need any convincing, you can read quietearth's review here.
