- Songwriter ("Oh, Say Can You Swing?"), composer, author and conductor. He came to the USA in 1898 and was educated in New York public schools as well as in private music study with Sascha Coleman and Michael Svedrofsky, earning an honorary Mus. D. During World War I he was a US Navy bandmaster, and thereafter a conductor at theatres and cafes in New York and Europe. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Force as a composer and bandleader, later scoring films and serving as a consultant to Miklós Rózsa. Joining ASCAP in 1937, his other popular-song compositions include "Poor Robinson Crusoe", "With Thee I Swing", "My Heart Is in a Violin", "Picture Me in a Picture With You", and "I Love You From Coast to Coast".- IMDb Mini Biography By: Hup234!
