Copenhagen-based LevelK has pounced on world sales rights to the Swedish suspense drama “Hunters on a White Field,” toplining stellar acting trio Jens Hultén, Magnus Krepper and Ardalan Esmaili.
The pic will bow as an exclusive market screening at Göteborg’s Nordic Film Market, running Jan. 31-Feb 2.
Making her feature debut as writer-director is Sarah Gyllenstierna, a former assistant producer and director to artists including Spike Lee and Matthew Barney.
The suspense drama, based on a novel by Mats Wägeus, follows three men – Alex, Greger and Henrik – who get together a weekend to go hunting in the woods. The novice Alex learns how to hunt from his experienced partners. An initial spell of hunting success sharpens their instincts and stirs a sense of rivalry. One day, all animals vanish and the forest turns eerily quiet, yet for the men-the hunt must go on.

Tom Wlaschiha and Jazzy de Lisser (“Game of Thrones”) have joined the cast of Viaplay’s major English-language original feature “Hilma.” The film is written and directed by Lasse Hallström, the Oscar-nominated director of “The Cider House Rules” and “My Life as a Dog.”
The biopic, which explores the life of revolutionary Swedish artist and feminist pioneer Hilma af Klint, will bow this fall in theaters and on Viaplay, Scandinavia’s leading streaming service.
Wlaschiha stars as Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian artist and founder of the anthroposophical spiritual movement. Steiner became a key figure and mentor for Hilma af Klint who created more than a thousand striking paintings, sketches and watercolors that remained largely unknown until decades after her death.
The film explores the enigmatic life of Klint, who navigated through a male-dominated artistic scene to eventually become one of the Western world’s first abstract artists.

"Leaders are born from survival." Whoa. Sony has released a new trailer for the movie Alpha, which was originally set for release in March but then delayed until August this year. We featured the first trailer for this last year, almost a year ago, but the studio freaked. This new trailer is much different - selling it more as an uplifting tale like one of those fun nature documentaries. Very interesting pivot. This adventure follows the story of Zeta, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a young man injured on a bison hunt left for dead. He befriends a lone wolf and together they figure out how to survive. The full cast includes Natassia Malthe, Leonor Varela, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Mercedes de la Zerda, and Jens Hultén. I can't believe they're actually trying to sell this as the story of the first dog, that's some serious pandering. Oh well. Here's the new...

Sony Pictures has released a new trailer and poster for their upcoming Ice Age adventure film Alpha. The film comes from director Albert Hughes, the co-director of films such as Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, From Hell and The Book of Eli, which was a solo directing gig.
I'm not sure about this movie. The trailers that have been released haven't done a very good job selling me on it. My kids want to see it, so maybe that's the film's market. Maybe it will end up being a decent watchable adventure movie, but I'm not expecting much.
The story is set in Europe 20,000 years ago during the Ice Age. "While on his first hunt with his tribe’s most elite group, a young man is injured and left for dead. Awakening to find himself broken and alone -- he must learn to survive and navigate the harsh and unforgiving wilderness.

"An enemy will become an ally." Sony Pictures has unveiled a trailer for an epic new action thriller titled Alpha, formerly known as The Solutrean (which is a very weird title so it makes sense they changed it). This is the latest feature film from Albert Hughes, who last directed The Book of Eli in 2010, and it's set during the last Ice Age - 20,000 years ago (kind of like Emmerich's 10,000 BC). This epic adventure follows the story of Zeta, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a young man injured on a bison hunt left for dead. He befriends a lone wolf and together they figure out how to survive in this harsh environment. So basically it's The Revenant meets 10,000 BC. The Solutrean, which will be the first film to come out of the Sony-owned Studio 8, has finished up casting. Kodi-Smit McPhee (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) will star in the film, with Jóhannes Haukur Johannesson (A.D. The Bible Continues), Jens Hultén (Skyfall), Natasha Wilson (Darc), Marcin Kowalczyk (The Lure) and Spencer Bogaert (Vincent) also joining the cast.
Directed by Albert Hughes, the movie will detail the story of a hunting expedition gone horribly wrong, with its lead characters on an epic mission of survival to make it back home amidst a harsh and brutal landscape. When Hollywood sees something different work, they don't wait long to try and duplicate its success. 'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation': Tom Cruise. 'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation': Tom Cruise, the last action hero There are two impossible missions in the latest Mission: Impossible. The first involves Chechen terrorists, political assassinations, the Vienna Opera House, and a car that unlocks when the user places his hand on the driver's side window (Detroit, get on that). The other impossible mission, one that is not only accepted and completed, but conquered and victoriously ground into dust, is proving that 53-year old Tom Cruise is still an action star. As Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation demonstrates with cruel ease, Cruise isn't just an action hero. In the post-movie star age, he is, with apologies to a certain Austrian bodybuilder whose drawing power is all but terminated, the last action hero. What makes him thus is not just his supreme confidence, compact good looks, and million dollar smile. The camera has...

This Time, It’s Rogue: Cruise Continues Singing It Forever Just Because
Arriving nearly four years after the highly celebrated and significantly lauded fourth Mission Impossible installment, 2011’s Brad Bird directed Ghost Protocol, Tom Cruise and company are back, perhaps nervously expecting to pale in comparison to what remains a difficult act to follow. Though an element of surprise is lacking, it’s safe to say Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is an energetic action comedy manufactured with the utmost attention to detail in its remarkable action sequences. Helmed by favored Tom Cruise scribe Christopher McQuarrie (who wrote Valkyrie, Edge of Tomorrow, directed Jack Reacher, and did uncredited revisions on the last Mi film), the whole endeavor feels like a snug outfit for its headlining celebrity.

Chicago – Why can’t American studios make thrillers like “Wallander: The Revenge”? As a matter of fact, why can’t we make ones like the recent production of “Sherlock” or even “Luther”? Perhaps it’s something about producing for TV that gives people more creative depth but the best thrillers so far this year have been the three episodes of “Sherlock” and this week’s release of “Wallander: The Revenge,” opening at Music Box today and available next week in a massive DVD box set.
“Wallander: The Revenge” is actually the season premiere of the second series of TV episodes that aired on Swedish television in 2009. While you may be tempted to avoid something produced for TV, “The Revenge” has theatrical caliber production values and performances. If you didn’t know, you’d never guess that it wasn’t made with a theatrical release in mind from the very beginning.
