Exclusive: Josh Swindell, a former pro skater who is set to be the central subject of a forthcoming skating biopic from MindRiot Entertainment, has signed with The Bks Agency in London.
The agency will handle Swindell’s literary representation and they are currently out to publishers with Swindell’s memoir, which is the basis of MindRiot’s biopic.
Swindell was one of the most celebrated pro skaters of his generation and had been regarded as the future of the sport by grandees such as Christian Hosoi, Tony Hawk, and Steve Caballero. He also crossed over into motocross and is still sponsored by Vans. In October 1995, however, Swindell was convicted of second-degree murder in the killing of Keith Ogden, whom he beat to death outside a bar in Azusa, California. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison and was released in 2012 after spending almost 20 years behind bars. The case...

NBA veteran Rex Chapman is turning his podcast “Charges with Rex Chapman” into a TV show. Like the podcast, the new series will come from Portal A and Steve Nash’s Ctrl Media.
Chapman spent 12 years in the NBA, playing for the Charlotte Hornets, Washington Bullets, Miami Heat and Phoenix Sun. But he later struggled with opioid and gambling addictions that led to his arrest. Using his experience as a pro athlete with his own challenges, Chapman will host “Charges” as the podcast is adapted into a TV documentary series chronicling high-profile sports scandals – “with the world’s most beloved and notorious athletes reliving the momentous events that spawned their infamy,” according to the logline.
“Charges” will focus on sports figures, but also plans to look at other stories in entertainment and pop culture.
Evan Jackson Leong will serve as director and showrunner.

"Tony is always competing against Tony." HBO has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary film titled Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off, which is premiering at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival coming up this month. Hawk, born in San Diego, California, is a pioneer of modern vertical skating and one of the most influential skateboarders of all time. This thrilling documentary – which covers his personal life, career and relationship with skateboarding – features unprecedented access, never-before-seen footage, and interviews with Hawk, and prominent figures in the sport including Stacy Peralta, Rodney Mullen, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero, Neil Blender, Andy MacDonald, Duane Peters, Sean Mortimer, and Christian Hosoi. "Never back down from the challenge." I've been hoping we'd one day see a comprehensive doc about Hawk! He has lived such an incredible life, going all over, doing so much, but still maintaining his integrity and his super chill attitude.

Skateboarding’s second Olympic event, the park contest, wrapped up Thursday in Tokyo, with few of the favored competitors making it to the podium. In the women’s contest, two Japanese women and a half-Japanese skater riding for Great Britain took medals — none of them old enough to drink in a U.S. bar. In the men’s event, an Australian 18-year-old got gold, with a Brazlian and an American following behind, respectively.

Thrashin’ screens Wednesday, July 6th at 8pm Schlafly Bottleworks Restaurant and Bar (7260 Southwest Ave.- at Manchester – Maplewood, Mo 63143) as part of Webster University’s Award-Winning Strange Brew Film Series.
You never know what’s brewing at Webster University’s Strange Brew cult film series. It’s always the first Wednesday evening of every month, and they always come up with some cult classic to show while enjoying some good food and great suds. The fun happens at Schlafly Bottleworks Restaurant and Bar in Maplewood (7260 Southwest Ave.- at Manchester – Maplewood, Mo 63143).
This month is Thrashin’ from 1986, which I have never seen, but it sounds like Romeo and Juliet set in the world of skateboarding. Two skateboarding gangs battle each other for supremacy, and a member of one gang falls in love with the sister of his rival. Judging from the trailer, it has a young Josh Brolin,...

There probably isn't a better way to introduce a special edition Vans x Star Wars collection than to get a young Wookie to take part in the likeness of a 1980s skate contest. I will try and think of a way, but it will be tough. The new commercial from Vans celebrates its recent collaboration with the Star Wars franchise in very cool style. Skateboard legends Tony Alva, Jeff Grosso and Steve Van Doren and Christian Hosoi are witness to the young Wookie's (Steve Caballero in...

Most people don't have enough happen in their life to make one documentary, but it turns out Stacy Peralta has enough to make at least two. Eleven years after he delved into his own adolescent history with “Dogtown And Z-Boys,” Peralta has made another skateboarding doc about the next phase of his career after the Z-boys. When Peralta founded his skateboard company Powell Peralta in the late '70s, he brought together a bunch of unknown amateur skaters, cherry picked from around the USA -- including Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero, Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain and Rodney Mullen, among others -- and created a skate team called the Bones Brigade. In case you know less about skating than me, these guys pretty much all grew up to be the top competitors of the 1980s, and went on to inspire and shape the next generation of skaters and their culture -- in short,...

Here's a film clip from Stacy Peralta's (Riding Giants, Dog Town and the Z Boys) new documentary Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, which is one of the best films that I've seen up at the Sundance Film Festival so far. It's a documentary that follows the 1980's skateboarding team the Bones Brigade, who changed the sport forever. This was a team of young unknown skaters who were brought together by Peralta in the early 80's to kick skateboarding's ass.
The video below is listed as a trailer, but it's actually a film clip from the movie showing Tony Hawk going against his rival Christian Hosoi, and goes into detail about the fans and their rivalry. I absolutely loved this movie, and it's one you have to watch! Even if you're not into skating, it's still just a great documentary.
