Exclusive: There’s more change in the executive ranks at Warner Bros. Discovery.
Meredith Gertler and Lisa Holme have decided to leave the company and, separately, Vanessa Brookman has been promoted.
Gertler, who is EVP of Global Content Strategy, Planning and Analysis, has been with the company for nearly 20 years, starting in marketing at HBO before becoming SVP, Program Strategy and Planning for the premium cable network. She then moved up to become EVP, Content Strategy and Planning in 2018 and EVP, Global Streaming Content Strategy last year.
In her most recent role, she was responsible for shaping the company’s global streaming content portfolio and long-term content investment strategy as well as overseeing the teams responsible for content and promotion scheduling across HBO, Max and Discovery+.

One of the biggest questions consumers have when it comes to the variety of streaming services is: How do I find something to watch? For Halloween, HBO Max and Discovery+ bypassed the usual use of algorithms and leaned into a human-driven curation of specific content — not algorithms! — to drive subscribers to movies and shows they’d be most likely to enjoy. And while the subscriber bases for both streaming services exhibit distinctly different behaviors, the strategy that’s driving programming for both right now will come in handy when they’re combined into a single streaming service in 2023.
