He founded the New York Chaber Symphonu at the 92nd Street Y called the Y Chamber Symphony. He left the Y in 1994 to direct the music and opera program at the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2003, he started free concerts "Free For All"at the Town Hall to attract new students.
