In the summer of 1996, the World Wrestling Federation held its annual King of the Ring tournament. After weeks of matches, the semis and finals were set for June 23rd, 1996, with Stone Cold Steve Austin facing Jake “The Snake” Roberts for the crown later in the night. Roberts, then known for working from a Christian angle, would cut a promo before the match doing just that. Just before Austin took the ring and pinned Roberts, he was tipped about the promo’s contents.
After the five-minute match, Austin stood next to the same man who tipped him off, Michael Hayes. And it was there that a legend and a catchphrase were born, and an entire industry was born again. With a mouth full of blood, Stone Cold Steve Austin told his defeated opponent: “You sit there and you thump your Bible, and you say your prayers, and it didn’t get you anywhere!

The story of World Championship Wrestling is one of an amazing rise but then a tragic fall that was hard to watch. While the American wrestling promotion spent much of its early days as second best, WCW figured itself out at a time when the World Wrestling Federation was destroying itself in the ’90s. WCW rose up and became what seemed like an unstoppable force before tripping on its own success while WWF recovered from its mistakes and regained traction. Having lost all that momentum, WCW did itself no favors by spending the next several years making every single bad decision possible. They absolutely could not get a win if they tried.
Now the dead promotion is considered a cautionary tale and a pile-on for jokes about the Shockmaster, David Arquette, the Fingerpoke of Doom, Hulk Hogan being humped by a giant mummy, the fumbling of Steve Austin, Judy Bagwell on a forklift,...

The release date for WWE 2K24 is getting closer, and fans have been waiting to get their hands on it. The upcoming title will also include a 40 Years of WrestleMania edition, so fans can look forward to reliving some iconic matches. The roster for the game is also looking good, with several returning characters joined by a few surprise entries.
Among them, however, fans have noticed the absence of one superstar, leading to a lot of confusion, especially as the Showcase mode is filled with former WWE legends, so missing out on this particular superstar makes little to no sense, but that could still change before the game is out.

Sometimes a WWE title run just doesn’t work. Maybe the wrestler wasn’t right for it. Maybe the wrestler was right but the writing was all wrong. Maybe the disastrous choice to make someone champion not only hurt the careers of others but also damaged the company as a whole.
We’re looking back at 15 WWE wrestlers who shouldn’t have been crowned world champions. Keep in mind, this list is broken down into specific title runs, so while it was copacetic to have Hulk Hogan wave the banner during the Hulkamania era, that doesn’t mean that it was always the best move to put him at the top of the food chain. Let’s have a look…

The network will air 52 live weekly events throughout the season, making Nxt the latest addition to the CW’s growing roster of live sports, including Acc football and basketball games airing Saturdays throughout the season, and Liv Golf. The CW is also the new home of weekly studio series Inside the NFL and will broadcast the NASCAR Xfinity Series beginning in 2025. WWE’s weekly Nxt show is heading to The CW.
Nxt, which serves as a showcase for WWE’s developmental talent, currently airs on USA Network but will move to CW in October 2024 in a new five-year deal. A source close to the deal pegged the value of the deal to WWE at about $20 million-$25 million a year.
Nxt will air weekly throughout the year on CW, marking the first time the show has aired on broadcast television since it launched its weekly format in 2012.
“Between the new leadership and ownership, the economics of the deal and with their broadcast network now being in over 100 million homes, it became a no brainer to move Nxt, one of our signature weekly shows, to the CW,” said Nick Khan, president of WWE.
Nxt is the brainchild of Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who now serves as WWE’s chief content officer. The show...

After the match, Kiana James arrived and attacked Perez, only for Shotzi to come to her aid and stave off the attack.

Wrestling icon Ric Flair’s final match in the ring was last July, and the Nature Boy reportedly got some shut-eye between swinging punches.
Flair, 74, linked up with his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo to go fist-to-fist with Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett, the match being his first in over a decade since his stint at Tna/Impact Wrestling and over 14 years since his retirement finale against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24.

Jeopardy! Masters champion James Holzhauer has called out ABC after the network got his name wrong in a promo for The Chase. The clip, which has now been deleted from social media, referred to the quiz show king as “James Hightower.” Whether it was an unintentional spelling error or an attempt to rebrand the self-confessed super-villain as a kind of long-lost Game of Thrones character, we don’t know. Holzhauer, however, made sure to grab a screenshot and shared the image with his followers, simply tweeting, “sigh” alongside the picture (see below). sigh pic.twitter.com/pcZizQaaoo — James Holzhauer (@James_Holzhauer) July 18, 2023 The embarrassing mistake came in a promo hyping Holzhauer’s return for the season finale of The Chase on Thursday, July 20. WWE 2K23 features quite a few improvements to the franchise formula that will certainly be welcomed by wrestling game fans everywhere. Of course, some things never change, which means that WWE 2K23 still makes you unlock quite a few wrestlers via gameplay accomplishments and by spending both real and virtual currency.
The very good news is that WWE 2K23 makes the various unlock processes fairly painless. The problem is that the game doesn’t always do a great job of telling you exactly how to unlock those wrestlers or the best way to go about acquiring all of them. Hopefully, we can help ease that part of the unlock system just a bit.
How to Unlock Every WWE 2K23 Wrestler With Virtual Currency
The vast majority of wrestlers in WWE 2K23 are unlocked via the game’s Virtual Currency (Vc) system. Every wrestler available via the in-game store costs 1,000 Vc to unlock.

Welcome to this week’s review of Nxt, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into the review and see what happened this week…
Match #1: Tyler Bate def. Grayson Waller The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Grayson Waller was out to prove something after losing to Bron Breakker at Nxt Vengeance Day, but he couldn’t quite overcome the Big Strong Boi. Both men were evenly matched with Bate using his innovative offense to keep the wily Waller off-balance. Still clearly focused on his backstage issues with Shawn Michaels, Waller tried mocking the Heartbreak Kid, but it backfired and nearly cost him the match. The action continued at a frenzied pace, but Waller’s attempt to use the ropes as leverage during a pin was spotted by the referee, and the momentary lapse in judgment allowed Bate to reverse it into the winning pin.
My Score: 3 out...

Wrestling legend Bret Hart may not have the major Hollywood motion capture experience of fellow professional wrestlers and franchise superstars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson or Dave Bautista (who keeps his WWE connection strong), but his mo-cap resume extends much farther back. The Hitman’s shot at mo-cap came in the mid-’90s for the video game WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game and he remembers the experience as fun but daunting.
On the most recent episode of the WWE Network series This Is Awesome, titled “Most Awesome Wrestling Games”–in which “WWE Superstars relive the nostalgia of battling their buddies back in the day and debate the classics”–Bret Hart reflected on the intensity of doing motion capture on the game, both good and bad.
“It was actually a really fun experience,” said Bret Hart. “I got to go to their warehouse where they had their whole setup. We had to dive and jump,...
