- Wrote and directed 21 successful TV pilots. He helmed some of the most memorable and highly regarded early episodes of The Twilight Zone (1959)--The Invaders (1961), Eye of the Beholder (1960), The Howling Man (1960)--as well as some of the best miniseries of the 1970s and 1980s, including Captains and the Kings (1976) and North & South: Book 1, North & South (1985).
