When Jen Harris left home on Tuesday morning, she had no idea how much work it would take to get her to the polls.
“I was super excited to vote, just amped,” Harris, 31, who works as an economist, told People. “The section of Metro that I live on is closed currently, so in order to get to work I have to take a commuter rail with a very rigid schedule. Silence! - The Musical The 9th Space Theatre at P.S. 122, NYC
Of the many attempts to chase the legacy of the 1982 benchmark in horror/comedy of the musical variety that is Little Shop of Horrors, Silence! makes a fair play to place. Brandishing a well-equipped arsenal of deadpan, vulgarity, camp, and a wide array of theatrical references, this musical parody of Silence of the Lambs makes killing look easy.
While it is doubtful that any score in this unlikely sub-genre will ever live up to the catchy, simplistic brilliance of Alan Menken (before he whored himself out to Disney), Silence! picks up a ball that was dropped Off-Broadway years ago and has been shamelessly fumbled ever since. In short, it's now safe to go see a musical mock-up of a horror film classic again.

The title "Silence! The Musical" is strange and funny enough. When you discover which silence this offbeat piece is about, that's when the truly strange and funny come into focus.
This is a parody of "Silence of the Lambs." Yes, a musical about Hannibal the Cannibal. What could be funnier?
Sure, it has a "Springtime for Hitler" supposition to it and there are moments where it must -- to remain true to the story -- be offensive, ugly and vulgar. Any musical that includes a song titled "If I Could Smell Her C***" is going to outrage some. And, that number has a dance sequence acting out the title.
For those who get past that, it's a very funny and exceptionally well-done piece with terrific talent. David Garrison is creepily on target as Hannibal, the cannibalistic psychiatrist. His TV credits include "Married ... With Children" "L.A. Law" and "The West Wing,...

No, there isn’t a song that rhymes fava beans. Or Chianti. But an unauthorized musical parody of the 1991 thriller Silence of the Lambs did open Off Broadway this week following a successful Fringe Festival run (and multiple YouTube clicks for some of its numbers). And as I wrote in my grade-b review, Silence! The Musical “is a little longer than it needs to be and the percentage of jokes hitting their target would earn only passing marks on the Quantico firing range.” But Jenn Harris nails Jodie Foster’s speaking style as Clarice, and Brent Barrett is deliciously deadpan as Hannibal.

[1] Funny folks Jeff Garlin and Mary Lynn Rajskub have signed on for Safety Not Guaranteed, which will also star Kristen Bell, Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation), Lynn Shelton (Humpday), Jenica Bergere (Rat Race), Jake Johnson (No Strings Attached), Mark Duplass, and newcomer Karan Soni. The comedy centers around "three magazine employees sent to investigate a classified ad from a man seeking a partner for time travel" and is based on an actual ad [2] that was once featured on the Jay Leno Show. Safety Not Guaranteed will be the first feature by Colin Trevorrow, who is directing from Derek Connolly's original screenplay. Big Beach Films (Little Miss Sunshine) and Duplass Brothers Productions (The Puffy Chair) are producing, which should probably give you some hint as to what kind of humor and general vibe we can expect. The film is currently shooting in Seattle. [The Hollywood Reporter [3]] After the jump, Hilary Swank considers co-starring with...

The new trend (as odd as it is) lately seems to be to take some of the horror genre's most notable films and turn them into bizarro musicals made specifically for the stage. Well, I guess it's better than a remake.
Variety reports that Brent Barrett and Jenn Harris will lead the cast of the Silence of the Lambs spoof Silence! The Musical, which is gearing up for a commercial Off Broadway production beginning in June.
Harris, who plays FBI agent Clarice Starling in the unauthorized parody of the Oscar-winning 1991 thriller, initially appeared in the show during its debut run at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2005. Broadway regular Barrett is on board as Hannibal Lecter in the production, to be directed by Christopher Gattelli.
A return Gotham visit for Silence! has been percolating since the show's well-sold outing at the Fringe, with a U.K. staging hitting London last year.
