- Alfred Hitchcock considered her and Tippi Hedren for the lead role in Marnie (1964), since both of them were under personal contract to him. Even though she and Hedren were in competition for the same role, there was no tension between them since they were friends from their early modeling days in New York. However, after watching her screen test, he decided that she wasn't the right person and chose Hedren. At the end of 1963, she retired from acting to be a full-time mother to the children she bore by husband Sydney Pollack.
