There are certain movies that, as you are witnessing them for the first time, feel like something of an event, and that is precisely my experience with Stephen King’s It, which first aired on ABC in November 1990. I can remember everything about watching both installments—how terrified I was of Tim Curry as Pennywise, how much I genuinely loved those kids and how awesome it was to see one of my favorite actors, John Ritter, show up in a horror movie (based on a Stephen King novel nonetheless). It was a landmark in many regards, but to me, as a fan, it's monumental because it truly was one of the first things I ever saw air on network television that genuinely scared the hell out of me.

This morning brought us a new look at what could wind up being one of the best movies of the fall. Ridley Scott.s The Martian launched a brand new trailer in the early hours, and it makes the film look equal parts fun and thrilling . telling the story of an astronaut played by Matt Damon who finds himself stranded on the surface of Mars and forced to use his intelligence and ingenuity to survive. If the preview whet your appetite for the movie, you.re definitely going to want to read about the special footage screening and Q&A that I attended this week. Yesterday, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a special press event in Los Angeles where Matt Damon, Ridley Scott, author Andy Weir, Nasa.s Planetary Science Division Director Dr. Jim Green, and astronaut Drew Feustel talked extensively about The Martian, and revealed some great...

Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) finds himself stranded and alone on Mars, in the brand new trailers for Ridley Scott’s The Martian.
From 20th Century Fox, the highly anticipated movie will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet.
With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, Nasa and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission.
As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.

This movie about an infertile couple who grow a son in their garden is sentimental, glutinous and infantile.
"Odd"? Try "tremendously annoying, creepy and reactionary". Somewhere in the dark heartland of America there is a great yearning for these quirky-icky fables, and here's another, from the pen of author and director Peter Hedges. This film is sentimental and artlessly sinister: like a cross between Mary Shelley and John Irving, with a dash of the equally unendurable Benjamin Button movie. Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton play Cindy and Jim Green, a couple longing for kids, but infertile. In their agony, and indulging in a kind of grief therapy, they compile notes of what they wanted their child to be like and bury them in the garden. Over a stormy night, a miraculous child emerges from the soil to bring joy and wonderment into their lives and the whole community: he is...

Timothy Green is an interesting boy. He doesn.t come from a mama.s belly, but from the earth and a good dose of wishes and dreams. The result is a charming, magical film that grows on you. Cindy (Jennifer Garner) and Jim Green (Joel Edgerton) cannot have kids and are in a meeting with an adoption agency telling the odd story of how their son Timothy (Cj Adams) magically appeared. When the couple got the news about their not being able to have children, Jim decided that they should put all of the characteristics of their perfect child on note paper, put them in a box, then bury them in their garden. That night after a strange thunderstorm they...

New 'Odd Life of Timothy Green' movie delivered lots of weird drama & interesting plot. Walt Disney Pictures released their new drama/fantasy flick "Odd Life of Timothy Green." I just checked it out,and I thought it was definitely an odd movie to say the least. The storyline seemed very interesting, mostly because Timothy just sprouted up from the ground to be these folk's son for a while. That could only be interesting. The movie stars: Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, Cj Adams, Ron Livingston, Dianne Wiest, Odeya Rush, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, M. Emmet Walsh, Lois Smith, and Common. In the new flick, a happily married couple named Cindy and Jim Green are told they can't conceive children,so one day, they write down what type of child they would like to have and put it in a box. Then they buried it in the back yard. One night, a big storm goes down,...

The Odd Life of Timothy Green
Directed by: Peter Hedges
Cast: Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Garner, Cj Adams, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ron Livingston, E. Emmet Walsh, Common
Running Time: 1 hr 40 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: August 15, 2012
Plot: A married couple (Edgerton and Garner) looking to have a child are stunned to find their dream child (Adams) randomly show up in their house one rainy night.
Who’S It For? This is a PG-rated movie for families about parenting. The content is safe for families, though it does focus most on experiences older folk would only understand (such as dingus bosses, or the lack of glamor working crummy simple-minded jobs).
Expectations: I hadn’t much to think of this one, other than its casting, which primarily meant the intrigue of Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom, Warrior) in a Disney movie. When I heard this one was directed by Peter Hedges, I was reminded that...

Written and directed by Peter Hedges (Dan in Real Life), The Odd Life of Timothy Green stars Jennifer Garner as Cindy Green and Joel Edgerton as Jim Green, a young couple who reside in idyllic small-town Stanleyville. Cindy works at the pencil museum owned by the austere Ms. Crudstaff (Dianne Wiest) and Tim works in a failing pencil factory ran by arrogant Franklin Crudstaff (Ron Livingston).
The story begins with the Greens pleading to adopt a child, by sharing a fantastical story with adoption agency staff. The Greens have tried unsuccessfully to have a child. Devastated by the news that they've exhausted all possibilities to conceive a child, they deal with their grief by fantasizing what their child would have been like. They write down all the qualities and achievements their imaginary child would have, including "love and be loved" and "scoring the winning goal." The Greens put the notes...

Chicago – Peter Hedges’ “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” has a warm, gooey center that’s admirable in a family movie way but what’s around it can’t hold together as the lack of focus in the narrative and the rather grating performance from the young man playing its title character causes it to annoy more than entertain. I want to like “Timothy Green.” I don’t think there are enough fantasy-driven family films and the cast is filled with actors that I’ve enjoyed before. But the movie simply doesn’t have the energy or creativity it needed to connect.

The Greens can't have children and, in the midst of that continued realization, sit down one night and begin to imagine their child into existence. Over a bottle of wine they come up with traits that would make up their perfect child, "Our kid will score the winning goal, have a big heart, be honest to a fault." The list goes on. As the night wears on, reality sets in and, in a bit of a morbid twist, they bury the note paper, on which they dreamed up this fantasy child, in their garden. This child... was never meant to be...
From this event, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton) experience a miracle. A flash rain storm drenches their house that night and where a box of personality traits and accomplishments was once buried, there's now only a hole and a dirty 10-year-old boy (Cj Adams) is running through their house.

The Odd Life Of Timothy Green is not your typical Disney fantasy film, and Jennifer Garner, the mother of three and wife of Ben Affleck, says the film has the right message about parenthood and marriage.

That is until a dream child they created in their minds shows up on their footstep.

You might get a familiar sinking feeling during the opening moments of The Odd Life of Timothy Green. A youngish couple (Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Garner) are sitting in an adoption agency being grilled by an adoption officer (Shohreh Aghdashloo). She notes that they left the “Qualifications” field on their application blank — save for one word, “Timothy.” The wife asks to explain, and the film then launches into a flashback. You can feel in your weary bones that you’re not going to make it out of the theater with your tear ducts intact.Basically, the flashback story goes like this: That couple — Cindy and Jim Green –—were destroyed at finding out that they couldn’t conceive. Hoping to move on, they give themselves one night in which they allow themselves to imagine what their hypothetical child might be like. They write each of the nonexistent boy’s virtues down...

Enchantment, magic, families and fables - all markers of a Disney movie and writer-director Peter Hedges (Dan in Real Life, Pieces of April) was more than happy to add his latest effort, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, to the famed studio's roster.
Aussie actor Joel Edgerton (Warrior) plays Jim Green, salt-of-the-earth family man, married to the unflappable Cindy (Jennifer Garner, in perfect mommy mode), who are devastated that they can't conceive and are in for the shock of their lives when a box full of wishes and a freak flash storm gifts them a young boy...with leaves growing out of his legs.
We had a chance to speak with Edgerton and Hedges in Toronto recently and got their thoughts on why being odd isn't so odd at all and how embracing what makes you different might make life a little more interesting.

In small town Stanleyville, a happily married couple struggles to have the child they’ve always dreamed about. But when a small boy appears in their humble home, dirty and disheveled, their world, and that of the town, will never be the same in “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” Cindy Green (Jennifer Garner) works in a historic mansion for an uptight millionaire. Jim Green (Joel Edgerton) works for Stanleyville Pencil Factory and faces being laid off. Their working conditions aren’t ideal, but the main strain in their life comes from the fact that all childbearing options have dissipated. One evening they fill out all the characteristics of their perfect child on scrapes of paper, put it in a wood box and bury it in their yard. After a hard rain, a child they name Timothy (Cj Adams) magically arrives.

There was a time when, between “Alias” on the small screen and myriad projects on the big screen, Jennifer Garner seemed to be everywhere. Back in August, we got a look at Disney's upcoming film The Odd Life of Timothy Green, which introduced us to young boy who appears in the garden of a married couple. A new trailer has made its way online that gives us a better look at the story beyond the appearance of Timothy Green. Directed by Peter Hedges, The Odd Life of Timothy Green is described as an inspiring, magical story, which follows Cindy (Jennifer Garner) and Jim Green (Joel Edgerton), a married couple looking to start a family and, after a stormy night, find a child in their garden waiting for them. In the trailer released last year, we were given a better look at how all of this happens. It looks like Cindy and Jim were having trouble conceiving and, seemingly on a whim, came up with a wish list of sorts, creating their dream child on...

Sometimes, dreams do come true, no matter how ridiculous, impossible or—dare we say it—odd they seem. Just ask Cindy and Jim Green, who quite possibly dreamed their 10-year-old son into existence.
Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton star in "The Odd life of Timothy Green" as two parents struggling to have a child. One night, they imagine what their son would be like, writing down his attributes and quirks on a sheet of paper and burying it in their backyard. What began as a way to vent frustration becomes something rather miraculous, when a 10-year-old boy named Timothy (Cj Adams) arrives on their doorstep to claim the Greens as his own.
We have a feeling that the less revealed about "Odd Life," the better. So in the spirit of pictures being worth a thousand words, enjoy this exclusive still from the Disney fantasy drama, part of our ongoing Summer Movie Preview week.

Disney has released the first trailer for its upcoming modern-day fable, The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Considering the movie won't be released until next summer, audiences will have plenty of time to digest the movie's fantastical storyline, based on an idea by Disney principal Ahmet Zappa, which concerns a couple who can't conceive a child but end up with one after burying a box of hopes of what their child might be in their back yard. It sounds considerably less weird in the movie's official synopsis.

Disney’s live action arm hasn’t been matching its animation side in terms of quality and critical success but this new trailer for Peter Hedges’ The Odd Life of Timothy Green has all the appearance of a typical Disney fam-com.
Hedges, whose previous form includes the screenplay of About a Boy and Dan in Real Life, has Jennifer Garner and rising star Joel Edgerton fronting this one and it’ll be interesting to see Edgerton pulling on the family man trousers for a change, particularly as Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix were once suggested as male leads. The trailer is pure Disney, let’s hope the script doesn’t falter in among the sentiment.

When a couple discovers that they are having trouble trying to conceive a child, they may get many suggestions and options how to help. They can use a calendar to find the best days of the month to try, they can try fertility medications, or they can look into the possibility of adoption. Either that or you can do what Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton do in The Odd Life Of Timothy Green and wait for a child to pop up in your backyard. Disney has released the first poster for and Trailer Addict has posted the first trailer for the fantasy film, which was directed by About A Boy/What's Eating Gilbert Grape? filmmaker Peter Hedges. I can't quite figure out The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Peter Hedges (What's Eating Gilbert Grape and About a Boy screenwriter; Pieces of April director) directs Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton as a couple who buries all their hopes and desires for a child in a box in the back yard. The next day they're rewarded for their efforts by the appearance of a boy who claims to be their son. Have their wishes come true, and without all that pesky dealing with potty training and teething? Where did the boy come from? And with that premise, which could be horror as easily as fairy tale, what kind of film is this? (Hint: Disney is releasing it.) Check out the trailer below and start to get an idea about The Odd Life of Timothy Green. I do like Joel Edgerton's presence in this trailer; he's the one aspect...
