Turkey’s Ogm Pictures has acquired remake rights to produce a local-language adaptation of Shtisel, the hit Israeli television drama carried on Netflix in the U.S.
The Turkish show, Ömer, will track the same basic plot as the Israeli original, which follows Akiva Shtisel (Michael Aloni), a bachelor living in Jerusalem’s ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighborhood with his aging father, who meets an older widow, Elisheva (Ayelet Zurer), living with her 10-year-old son. But the Turkish version will move the setting to the country’s ultra-Orthodox Muslim community.
“Shtisel is a very unique format that can be adapted to almost every culture and religion,” said Ogm Pictures founder Onur Guvenatam. “So we are very excited to present Ömer in harmony with our culture and traditions.”

The Berlin International Film Festival has called for the acquittal of Zimbabwean author and filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga (“I Want a Wedding Dress”) who served on the international jury of the festival earlier this year. Dangarembga was arrested in July 2020 at a protest in Harare along with journalist Julie Barnes, where both were calling for the release of journalists and for institutional reforms.
They are being charged with inciting public violence, disturbing the peace and bigotry, and with violations of Covid regulations. The women have since been released on bail, but they have also been subpoenaed 26 times. In the trial, now taking place before the anti-corruption Court in Harare, a decision will be made whether to drop the case or seek a verdict.

"Our countries live in the past... Both obsessing over what we have lost... Let us find a way to live in the present. HBO has debuted the full-length trailer for a riveting movie titled Oslo, based on the Tony award-winning play by J. T. Rogers which opened on Broadway in 2017. We posted the teaser trailer a few weeks back, and this full trailer is even more intriguing. An emotional, eye-opening look at this historic meeting. Oslo recounts the true-life, previously secret, back-channel negotiations in the development of the pivotal 1990s Oslo Peace Accords between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization. "In the face of conflict, they sought peace. Based on the remarkable true story of the 1993 Oslo Peace Accords." The film stars Ruth Wilso as Mona Juul, Andrew Scott as Terje Rød-Larsen, and cast including Jeff Wilbusch, Salim Dau, Waleed Zuaiter, Igal Naor, Doval'e Glickman, Rotem Keinan, and Itzik Cohen.
