- Composer, songwriter ("The Little Ford Rambled Right Along"), musician, author and explorer, educated at the US Naval Academy (1907-1909). He was part of the Admiral Byrd expedition in 1933, and he wrote the stage score for "Navigator's Holiday" for the Naval Air Base in Pensacola, Florida. Joining ASCAP in 1922, his chief musical collaborators included Richard Whiting, Zez Confrey, Haven Gillespie, Rudy Vallee, and Marian Gillespie.
