Exclusive: UTA has signed popular comedy band Wolves of Glendale for representation in all areas.
Founded in 2022, and boasting a sizable following on social media, the band consists of Ethan Edenburg on guitar, Eric Jackowitz on drums and Tom McGovern on keys. They got their start when McGovern moved west, after a long stint playing piano bars in New York, and linked up with Edenburg and Jackowitz, who were searching for the missing piece in their trio. The first day they sat down together, they knew they had something special, as they wrote their hit song, “Vapin’ in Vegas.”
The Wolves took off nine months in when Kyle Gass introduced their tunes to Tenacious D frontman, Jack Black, who instantly took not only to their comedic style, but also to their high-quality musical talent. Black subsequently asked them to open for Tenacious D on New Year’s Eve 2022, in front...

Eight years after the release of the third film in the Kung Fu Panda franchise, Jack Black is back for a fourth go-around — and this time, he is bringing his musical side to the movie.
Last week, Black posted a cover of Britney Spears’ hit song “Baby One More Time” on his social media, showcasing him singing and dancing alongside Kyle Gass, with whom he performs in their band Tenacious D. The caption simply read “Tenacious B!” but included a panda emoji, suggesting the song would be a part of Kung Fu Panda 4.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the film Sunday, Black told reporters that the cover is featured in the film’s end credits, and that came about when director Mike Mitchell “said, ‘Hey, we would love to have a Tenacious D song for the end credits’ and I was like, ‘Really? Can we do Britney Spears?...

The first time Ethan Edenburg, Eric Jackowitz, and Tom McGovern hung out, they wrote a song. It was March 2022, and they were in Los Angeles, toying around with their instruments, when the conversation turned to what it would be like to have a midlife crisis while visiting Las Vegas.
“It’s a Sunday on the Strip. My divorced-ass moved to Vegas,” McGovern started singing as he played piano. “My wife left and took the kids. And it’s a good thing that she did ’cause they were annoying as shit.

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny released from Shout! Factory on February 13th, 2024.
Jack Black is among my favorite comedic leading men. The first film I ever reviewed was School of Rock for my high school newspaper. His physical delivery is unmatched, and he’s able to make nearly every character, no matter how absurd, feel relatable and approachable. Despite my adoration for the man, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny had evaded me for eighteen long years. Now, thanks to the fine folks at Shout! Factory, that’s all changed.

I was twenty-years-old when Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny released to theaters. That’s seemingly the perfect age for an R-rated comedy comprised of utter silliness and rock-and-roll.

Jack Black has been in his fair share of hit movies over the years, from "School of Rock" to "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and everything in between. The man has been a bonafide movie star for decades. But even the biggest stars have to suffer a misfire every once in a while and, for Black, one of his biggest misfires was also a very personal endeavor. 2006's "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny" brought the rock duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass to the big screen with initially disastrous results. Yet, time has been kind to the film as it has become a true cult favorite.
Black recently spoke about the film's legacy in the latest issue of Total Film magazine. The actor described "Pick of Destiny" as his baby. Not only because it's the only movie he wrote personally, but because it was based on an emotional truth,...

Before Jack Black took the pop culture world by storm with a breakout role in 2000's "High Fidelity," the actor, musician, and comedian had his doubts about the movie. In the latest issue of Total Film magazine, Black reflects back on his decades-long career and admits that he initially passed on the role of music junkie Barry over fears that it might negatively impact his own real-life music career.
"My friend, John Cusack, was like, 'You would be perfect for this role, Barry, in 'High Fidelity,'" Black recalled (Cusack starred in and co-wrote the movie). "I was hesitant because I was like, I don't know if I want to make a movie about rock and roll, and someone who is a critic of rock and roll." Though "High Fidelity" is a music-lovers' classic now, the film based on a Nick Hornby book features some painfully authentic music snobbery,...

Superbad is more than you think. Beyond being one of the most beloved and cherished teen-comedy films ever made- it also stands as heartfelt tale about friendship and moving on. However, today we’re not going to talk about any of those things… Today, we’re going to sit back and take a look at one of the funniest scenes in the entire film which features the story’s debut of two local cops who are very, Very bad at catching criminals.
Originally written for Kyle Gass, the role of Officer Michaels ended up going to the very creator of the story- Seth Rogen. Rogen and his long-time writing partner, Evan Goldberg, wrote the original treatment for Superbad when they were just teenagers themselves. However, even with brilliant writing, some things had to be developed past the imagination of the film’s writers. That’s where Bill Hader comes in.

Jack Black brought his piano ballad “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Sunday. During the surprise performance at The Game Awards 10–Year Concert, one-half of Tenacious D was accompanied by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by Lorne Balfe. Watch it below.
After entering from stage right, Black — whose character Bowser dedicates the song to Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy) in the record-breaking movie — let loose an especially schmaltzy, over-the-top rendition of his first solo hit while rocking the same green suit and red hairpiece from the music video. Meanwhile, footage of Peach from the film played on the giant screen hanging over the stage.
Following its release in April, “Peaches” peaked at No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a total of five weeks on the chart. Its music video, directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett, has racked up 45 million YouTube views to date.

The duo continued, “It’s about time someone defended the honor and integrity of this bold new horizon. Leave it to the greatest band in the world…Tenacious D!!!”
The banjo-powered song clocks in at just over a minute long, and is accompanied by an animated video from the creative team of Oney Plays, featuring co-directors Adam Paloian (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Chris “Oney” O’Neill (YouTube’s...

Back in February, Ozzy Osbourne canceled his 2023 UK/European tour, and essentially retired from touring due to his various health issues. While his touring days may be over, the Prince of Darkness is determined to play more shows, even if it means getting “someone to wheel [him] out there.”
As of now, Ozzy has one gig scheduled, and it’s big one. He’s playing the massive three-day Power Trip concert event (tickets available here) in Indio, California, in October, along with fellow rock and metal icons AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Tool.
The metal legend was interviewed by Tenacious D’s Jack Black and Kyle Gass for the new issue of Metal Hammer, telling the duo he never wants to retire.
“I mean, doing a live show is what I live for,” said Osbourne. “I’ve had to cancel my European tour but I’m determined.

Earlier this month, we predicted that Jack Black’s piano ballad “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie could be a dark horse for Song of the Summer, and now, it’s become his first solo hit.
As reported by Billboard, the impassioned dedication to Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy) from Black’s character Bowser debuted at No. 83 on the Hot 100 chart with 5.8 million US streams and 6,000 downloads in its first week. As of publishing, its music video — directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett — has racked up 17 million views. Watch the clip below.
“Jack Black is an incredible singer and musician, so we spent a night writing the song and sent the demo to Jack,” Super Mario Bros. co-director Aaron Horvath said in a statement (via Insider). “A couple [of] days later, Jack sent us back a finished track. Exclusive: Jack Black and brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly, the team behind the 2001 comedy Shallow Hal, look to be reuniting for the holidays — and bringing an infamous character along for the sleigh ride. Sources tell Deadline that Black is set to star in the Christmas comedy Dear Santa with Bobby Farrelly set to direct and Peter Farrelly on board to produce with Bobby and Jeremy Kramer.
The movie centers on a young boy who, in writing his yearly note to Santa, mixes up the letters and sends it to Satan instead. Black recently teased the project on social media when he posted a photo of him posing with Christmas decorations with no context — it got everyone talking about what it could be.

Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin gave their annual Hanukkah celebration the grand finale it deserved with a rendition of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” featuring cameos from Jack Black, Pink, Beck, and more.
Grohl and Kurstin shared the final installment of their Hanukkah Sessions series yesterday, Dec. 25, which — along with being Christmas Day — was also the final night of the Festival of Lights. Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin marked the sixth night of Hanukkah — and Night Six of their 2022 Hanukkah Sessions — by bringing out Karen O to perform “Heads Will Roll” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, two-thirds of whom are Jewish (but not the singer herself).
“Leave it to us to get the only non-Jewish member of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Hanukkah-ize one of their signature songs,” Grohl and Kurstin wrote in the YouTube caption.
Like the previous performances during this Festival of Lights, “Heads Will Roll” was recorded in front of a live audience on Dec.

Comedian, actor, hard-rockin' musician ... Jack Black is an entertainment triple threat. Over the past 20-something years, this California native has been making audiences across the world fire soda through their nose with his distinctive brand of loose-lipped humor, appearing in some of the most enduring and bankable comedy movies of all time in the process. One-half of the touring mock-rock music duo Tenacious D alongside his guitar-shredding buddy Kyle Gass, Black has carved out his own niche in the world of funny, finding himself just as much at home on a live stage as he is in front of a camera. Through it all, he's not been afraid to mix it up either, mixing out-and-out rib-ticklers with more thoughtful fare like Richard Linklater's "Bernie" in 2011 and Gus Van Sant's 2018 dramedy "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot."

In the early 2000s, Jack Black was having a moment. Richard Linklater’s School of Rock made him an unlikely leading man, with the film grossing 131 million worldwide. He was in high demand and bankable, so the time was right to finally produce his passion project – a film showcase for his cult two-person band, Tenacious D. The film, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny would be a big flop, only grossing 13 million worldwide. Still, in the years that followed, the film would become a kind of secret success, doing well on DVD and becoming a cult hit.
Indeed, all involved had good intentions going into this. Black was a massive star and cut his salary from a whopping 12 million to 1 million to get it made, and he would split the fee with his bandmate Kyle Gass. The movie would feature a who’s who of rock star cameos, including Meat Loaf,...

This story about Jean Smart in “Hacks” first appeared in the Comedy & Drama issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Jean Smart gave another tour de force performance as comedian Deborah Vance in an emotionally charged diner scene in Season 2 of the HBO Max comedy-drama “Hacks,” and it required very little preparation. The scene finds Deborah, an older comedian who’s trying to keep together what’s left of her fame and career, demanding that her young writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder) read her an email. But not just any email. Deborah tells Ava she must read the missive the twentysomething sent to some showrunners at the end of Season 1, where Ava raked Deborah and her behavior over the coals, exposing her misbehavior to outside parties. Smart doesn’t have a lot of lines in the scene, but the pain as she listens to the harsh and often brutally honest criticism is palpable.
