Lonnie Martin and Cindy Marie Martin of Ningen Manga Productions dropped us a line with an update on Women’S Studies, the feminism-oriented fright feature that, at last report, was slated to hit DVD this year. Lonnie, who wrote and directed the movie, reveals why that hasn’t happened—and how the flick has been improved as a result.
“In October 2008, we rendered the services of a sales agent who quickly got us a direct-to-dvd distribution deal,” he tells Fango. “However, due to the economic climate, the company sat on it, giving us a vague ‘fall 2009’ release promise. As we got into this past summer, it become clear that they had lost interest in Women’S Studies. Writer/director/co-producer Lonnie Martin gave Fango the scoop that Mti Home Video has picked up his debut feature Women’S Studies. “A lot of work and love was put into this film,” he tells us, “and I’m thrilled people are finally going to get the chance to see it.”
Women’S Studies is about a graduate student in the titular subject who, along with three friends, winds up on the campus of a girls-only academy with an empowering feminist doctrine. The longer they stay, however, the more they discover about the school’s dark and violent side. The filmmaker’s wife, Cindy Marie Martin, co-produced and stars alongside Tara Garwood, Melisa Breiner, Laura Bloechl, James Radack, Kelley Slagle and Night Of The Living Dead’s Judith O’Dea.
“Mti is a perfect fit,” Martin says. “Not only do they have a lot of respect for the horror genre,...
