- Galvin's 1975 play, We Do It For Love, staged at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast, featured two then unknown young actors - Liam Neeson and Gerard Murphy.
- He is a member of the Irish cultural institute Aosdana and awards for his writing include the Irish-American Cultural Institute Award for Poetry.
- He was a well known folk singer in London in the 1950s and recorded several albums of Irish songs for Topic Records and the Workers Music Association.
- He suffered a major stroke in 2004 but continued to write poetry.
