Writer/director Kurt Wimmer’s recently released take on the Stephen King short story Children of the Corn is described as being a remake, but it’s different enough from the source material and the two previous adaptations – released in 1984 and 2009 – that you could really just call it “another Children of the Corn movie”. But whatever you call it, it went over pretty well with us here at JoBlo / Arrow in the Head. You can read Tyler Nichols’ 8/10 review at This Link, watch his interview with Wimmer and stars Elena Kampouris and Kate Moyer Here, and watch him discuss the film with fellow fan Mike Conway over Here. So we’re glad to share the news that the new Children of the Corn will be receiving a VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray release soon. The VOD release date is the closest; as of March 21st you’ll be able to watch the movie Here.

Last week, a new video series called Modern Horror Movie Talk made its premiere on the Arrow in the Head Show YouTube channel. With each episode of this show, we’ll be joining host Tyler Nichols as he covers all new horror releases, the latest horror movie news, and new horror trailers. Films discussed in the first episode of Modern Horror Movie Talk included Cocaine Bear, Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving, and The Pope’s Exorcist. Now the second episode of Modern Horror Movie Talk is online, and in this one Tyler is joined by special guest Mike Conway to discuss the new Children of the Corn movie, which was just released last week. Having filmed in 2020, it’s surprising that it took so long for us to finally receive the Children of the Corn remake. Usually, when that happens, it spells disaster for the film. But having the seen the film (check out my review here) I can say that it’s very fun and beautifully shot. I know I’m in the minority but I had a blast. So I was absolutely geeked to sit down with director Kurt Wimmer (who made the cult classic Equilibrium) and stars Elena Kampouris and Kate Moyer to discuss this film. I’m already really rooting for this film to find its audience because I genuinely had a lot of fun with it. Check out the interview above!

Whether they're seeing ghosts, starting fires with their mind, or walking along railway tracks in search of a dead body, kids are always getting up to creepy stuff in Stephen King stories. Take "Children of the Corn," for example, in which the children of the small farming town called Gatlin massacre all the grown-ups in tribute to a demonic entity called He Who Walks Behind The Rows. In King's original short story, and the 1984 film adaptation, a couple stumble across Gatlin several years later to find the town run by these cultist children, who are sacrificed as soon as they reach their 19th birthday.
A new "Children of the Corn" movie was written and directed by Kurt Wimmer ("Ultraviolet") and filmed in the early months of the pandemic in New South Wales, Australia. Producer Lucas Foster told Variety that the film has "almost nothing to do" with the 1984 movie, and...

Nearly three years have gone by since we first heard that Equilibrium writer/director Kurt Wimmer was at the helm of a new adaptation of the Stephen King short story Children of the Corn – and the project (which was filmed in Australia) was one of the few productions that didn’t have to shut down during the first wave of pandemic lockdowns back in early 2020. In October of 2020, the movie was given a theatrical release… in just two theatres in Sarasota, Florida. But now we finally know when those of us who didn’t see the movie in Sarasota are going to have the chance to watch it. Wimmer’s Children of the Corn has been acquired by Shudder and Rlje Films and will be getting an 18 day theatrical release beginning on March 3rd. A digital and VOD release will follow on March 21st.

An adaptation of what I still believe to be one of the creepiest and genuinely unnerving short stories Stephen King ever wrote, the latest Children of the Corn movie (the eleventh overall in the film franchise) has been acquired by Rlje Films and Shudder, and the film is slated for a March 3rd theatrical release, followed by an On Demand and Digital release on March 21st:

More than any other genre, horror has made a name for itself with franchises that endure for multiple installments. Some of the more high-profile names like "The Conjuring" or "Halloween" don't really come as a surprise to most folks, especially since all of their films received a theatrical release. I'm talking about the ones that only the most hardcore horror folks will notice such as "Puppet Master," with over 15 films, and "The Amityville Horror," which goes well over 30. But if you look way out into a Midwestern cornfield, you'll see "Children of the Corn'' still chomping away at the cob with over 10 films, and an eleventh coming from seemingly out of nowhere.
According to a report from Deadline, Rlje Films and Shudder will finally release the "Children of the Corn" remake from director Kurt Wimmer ("Equilibrium"). The film is set for a limited 18-day theatrical release on March 3, 2023, before it hits the horror streaming service,...

A follow-up to the 130M-plus grossing movie Law Abiding Citizen is happening with producer Lucas Foster and screenwriter Kurt Wimmer returning, as well as Gerard Butler and his G-Base partner Alan Siegel reprising their roles as producers.
The storyline is being kept secrets. The first movie starred Butler and Jamie Foxx and was directed by F. Gary Gray, and followed assistant district attorney Nick Rice’s (Foxx) pursuit of Clyde Shelton (Butler), a frustrated father who implements an elaborate and twisted plan to bring down the entire judicial system in Philadelphia after a plea bargain sets free the man who murdered his wife and daughter. The pic in December on Netflix became one of the top three most viewed movies alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds’ Red Notice and Sandra Bullock’s The Unforgivable.
Rivulet Films’ Rob Paris and Mike Witherill are producing alongside Foster and Wimmer. Foster will produce under his Warp Films banner.

“If you’re going to run, do it now…” In the depths of a South American rainforest, an unusually frail-looking Jared Leto stands at the towering mouth of a sinister-looking cave, propped up by two walking sticks, his long, stringy hair draped over a green overcoat that swallows his frame. A small group of mercenaries look on nervously, edging back towards the helicopter behind them. He takes a large knife and draws it across his palm, before holding his hand up towards the hi-tech cage positioned in front of him. Something is stirring from within the darkness. But there’s a problem…
“The blood didn’t come out,” Leto says, looking off to the side. “Wanna go again?”
On any other production, that little practical-fx slip-up might have been ripe for the post-release blooper reel. But while Leto briefly breaks character to acknowledge the error, there’s no corpsing here – he remains focused,...

Sony and Marvel have released a second trailer for “Morbius,” giving viewers a look into Jared Leto’s transformation as the vampire anti-hero.
Based on Roy Thomas and Gil Kane’s 1917 comic books, the latest superhero film in Sony’s Spider-Man universe follows Michael Morbius (Leto), a biochemist in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. After accidentally injecting himself with vampirism, Morbius receives bat-like powers like echo-location, flight — and of course, an insatiable thirst for blood.
In the trailer, Morbius travels to a mysterious island to cure his ailment, only to go missing for two months and return with vampire powers. There are also some connections to Sony’s fellow Spider-Man movies, including a cameo by Michael Keaton, who played Vulture in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and a Venom namedrop. The symbiote villain, played by Tom Hardy, teased a multiverse crossover in the post-credits scene of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

One of the most surprisingly long-lived franchises, Children of the Corn will soon have its eleventh entry. The series that began with a 1984 Stephen King short story adaptation became a direct-to-video mainstay in the 1990s under Dimension Films, and has more recently received a Syfy remake and 2018’s Children of the Corn: Runaway.
We now know that the latest installment, again just titled Children of the Corn, has wrapped its challenging production though, with cast and plot details also recently being revealed. Producer Lucas Foster and director Kurt Wimmer have developed the new version of Corn as something distinct from the existing franchise, although we’d be surprised if there wasn’t a lot of corn and some creepy children in the mix. The film’s production in Australia was able to continue during the pandemic, and is being prepared for what appears to be a 2021 release, although whether this...

There can’t be many examples of this – Kurt Wimmer, whose credits include writing and directing Equilibrium, has wrapped production on a feature film shot on set entirely during the lockdown.
This project is a yet-to-be-titled reimagining of Stephen King’s short story Children Of The Corn, which has already spawned 10 feature movies prior to this one, and shot in Australia. It originally went into production in New South Wales at the beginning of March. When the Covid-19 pandemic forced productions to shutdown across the world (few of which have resumed yet), the producers say they consulted with local body Screen Nsw, which was a major investor in the pic, and decided to progress.
Collaborating with Safe Work Nsw and film safety expert Jon Heaney, they drew up a reconfigured shoot schedule and methodology that implemented health and safety measures for the entire production. As they were already on set together,...

Kurt Wimmer’s reimagining of “Children of the Corn” has completed its coronavirus-defying shoot in Australia. The filmmakers employed stringent health and safety protocols, and multiple insurance policies.
The producers revealed the previously undisclosed cast of young actors, with Elena Kampouris (“Before I Fall”) and Kate Moyer (“When Hope Calls”) starring. They are accompanied by Australian talent Callan Mulvey (“Avengers: Endgame”) and Bruce Spence (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”).
“You can theorize all you like about safety protocols, but until you get on set, you don’t really know. But I can now tell you it is impossible to keep a camera crew 1.5 meters apart,” producer Lucas Foster (“Ford v Ferrari”) told Variety.
Principal photography began in New South Wales in early March, when the Covid-19 outbreak forced the majority of productions around the world to shut down.
“We ended up taking hundreds of measures.

Grainne Brunsdon.
Head of Screen Nsw Grainne Brunsdon today listed numerous ways in which the agency is helping producers to get back to business through and after the pandemic.
Illustrating the Nsw screen industry’s plight, she said its survey, which had more than 600 responses, revealed screen businesses estimated that, collectively, they would lose more than $50 million through September.
Less than 3 per cent of businesses reported there had been no change to their situation while multiple freelancers said they expected their income to each drop by $40,000 in that period.
“It’s a scene of devastation,” she told Screen Producers Australia CEO Matt Deaner in a webinar, indicating she would report the survey’s findings to the Nsw government.
The agency is preparing its budget which will run from July 1 until the end of December. The government will set out its 2021 allocation in the October budget.

The Coronavirus pandemic has truly affected every facet of filmmaking – from big-name Hollywood blockbusters like Black Widow to small indie films gestating in development.
And with theaters closed, major studios like Universal have explored a straight-to-digital model – much to the chagrin of AMC and Regal. But that’s a whole other story.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (h/t Bloody Disgusting), though, a full-fledged Children of the Corn remake continues to make ground Down Under, where director Kurt Wimmer and producer Lucas Foster (Ford v Ferrari) have been shooting their remake of the Stephen King classic – all the while adhering to safety protocols.
It will be the first Children of the Corn film since 2018’s Runaway, and we’re already intrigued to see the final product. Here’s that brief status report, courtesy of THR:

In the first trailer for Marvel’s “Morbius,” Jared Leto sheds his “Joker” persona as he transforms into the vampiresque super villain.
Based on the comic books created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in 1971, the antagonist’s origin story follows Michael Morbius (Leto), a biochemist in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. However, he accidentally injects himself with vampirism, giving him bat-like superpowers like echo-location and an insatiable thirst for blood. “Lost in Space” co-creators Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the script.
The vengeful vampire appeared periodically throughout the Marvel franchise. He made his first appearance in a 1971 issue of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and was eventually brought back in the 1992 series, “Morbius, the Living Vampire.” The revival produced 32 issues before ending in 1995.
Adria Arjona stars alongside Leto as the villain’s fiancee Martine Bancroft. Jared Harris, Matt Smith, and Tyrese Gibson round out the cast.

Out of all of the superheroes in the Marvel universe, Spider-Man's lineup of villains is perhaps the most eclectic, intriguing, and horrifying. Following the success of Sony's Venom, the studio is wasting no time developing other characters in Spider-Man's cinematic universe, and they've now officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for Morbius, including a look at the title character's vampiric transformation.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (based on the Marvel Comics character), Morbius stars Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Executive produced by Louise Rosner and produced by Matt Tolmach, Avi Arad, and Lucas Foster, Morbius is slated for a July 31st theatrical release.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Morbius the Living Vampire, aka Dr. Michael Morbius, is a scientist who accidentally transformed himself into a bloodthirsty creature of the night.

Matt Smith is in final talks to join Jared Leto in “Morbius,” a film based on the Spider-Man villain of the same name.
“Safe House” director Daniel Espinosa will helm the movie. Exact details of who Smith would play are unknown at this time, other than it being a major role in the film.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who co-created the Netflix series “Lost in Space,” penned the script. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing “Morbius” with Lucas Foster. Palak Patel will oversee the pic for Sony.
Writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane created Morbius in 1971 for “The Amazing Spider-Man #101.” The character was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, with tragic results. He became afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood — and wound up battling Spider-Man.

Exclusive: Adria Arjona is in talks to play Martine, the female lead in Sony’s Morbius feature film which has Jared Leto starring. Daniel Espinosa is directing the Spider-Man Universe spinoff based on Marvel Comics’ antihero Morbius the Living Vampire.
Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, the renowned biochemist Dr. Michael Morbius first debuted in the 1970s The Amazing Spider-Man #101 issue. He attempts to cure a fatal blood disease by injecting himself with a treatment serum derived from bats, which transforms him into the anti-hero Morbius. He has all the qualities of a vampire, including a taste for human blood.
In the comics, Martine, who is engaged to Morbius, becomes a potential victim to his bloodlust as he grapples with the transformation that has made him a weird laboratory version of the supernatural vampires of lore.
Sony declined to comment on Arjona.
Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama co-wrote the Morbius script.

Sony today marked July 10, 2020, and October 2, 2020 for two movies in its Marvel universe.
The studio is mum regarding what titles specifically will play in those spots, but logic would dictate that the first date — which is for an original Marvel movie — would be Morbius, the pic about the vampire antihero that goes into production next month with director Daniel Espinosa and Jared Leto playing the title character. Appearing as a Spider-Man villain in an October 1971 edition, biochemist Michael Morbius gains vampire abilities after an experiment goes south. Matt Tolmach, Lucas Foster and Avi Arad produce. Right now there isn’t any other competition on July 10, 2020.
Sony hasn’t greenlighted a Venom sequel yet, but we understand that Tom Hardy signed for three films, and after the $780 million global haul for the first picture, it would be crazy if the studio doesn’t make a second one. After busting through and...
