Tony Pulis isn’t happy unless he’s entirely rebuilding his squad at the last possible moment, and it looks like he’s going to win transfer deadline day once again by masterminding three big deals to improve his squad.
He’s already working hard on convincing Man Utd’s Darren Fletcher to finalise personal terms to leave Old Trafford, and now Tottenham midfielder Etienne Capoue looks likely to join on loan after SkyBet suspended betting on him joining the club.
Carlton Cole has also linked up with the club ahead of a potential deal, which would kick off a bit of a chain as West Ham look to sign another striker themselves to cover his departure. Cole would replace Brown Ideye, who left the club in a cut price deal earlier in the day after a disastrous six months.

Despite earlier reports that Darren Fletcher wouldn’t be going anywhere because his wage demands were too high, it now looks like he’s set to become yet another transfer deadline day signing by Tony Pulis – who loves a late deal.
The Manchester United midfielder has struggled to make his way back into the first team after extended medical issues, and is now entirely out of favour at Old Trafford after Louis Van Gaal rebuilt the first team squad. He’s been linked with moves away from the club for almost the entire window, but a potential deal with West Ham collapsed over the weekend and everything looked dead.
But now Pulis has waved his magic wand and is set on bringing the Scottish international player in at the Hawthornes where his experience will be invaluable for the last 15 games of the season. And he would no...

Wilfried Zaha’s unfortunate time at Manchester United has come to an end as Crystal Palace have taken up the option to make his loan deal permanent for an undisclosed amount ahead of the end of the transfer window.
The winger had been Palace’s biggest player back in 2013 before attracting the attention of then United boss Sir Alex Ferguson but he was left out in the cold when David Moyes took the reigns and clearly didn’t fancy him as a Red Devil. Louis Van Gaal clearly felt the same way and the player now becomes Palace’s latest signing after the acquisitions of Yaya Sanogo and Shola Ameobi.
Alan Pardew had been attracted to Zaha when he was at Newcastle, but his say in transfers at the North East club were limited to between nothing and very little, but he’s now got his...

When West Brom signed Nigerian Brown Ideye in the summer, he was heralded as the man to fire the Baggies up the league under Alan Irvine. Sadly that simply did not materialise for either party, Irvine was sacked with the club perched precariously near the relegation zone and Ideye now looks to be on his way out just six months after he was signed.
Having cost a massive £10m this summer, Ideye is now on the verge of signing for Qatar club Al Gharafa in a deal worth only £3.8m. He has scored just twice in 17 league appearances, and it seems the club simply want rid of him no matter what.
Tony Pulis has apparently lined up a cheap, short-term replacement with both Carlton Cole and Rickie Lambert targeted according to the Daily Mail. If either can fire in the goals to keep the club in...

Manchester United may well be the biggest spenders of the summer transfer window, having spent £131.7 million since last season on left-back Luke Shaw, midfielder Ander Herrera, defender Marcos Rojo and his Argentina teammate Angel Di Maria, but there is still plenty of work left to be done at Old Trafford before Monday’s deadline day.
The transfer window will crash shut until January in a little under four days and while United have certainly compensated for the horrors of last summer – in which they signed only Marouane Fellaini this time 12 months ago – they cannot be 100% pleased with their wheeling’s and dealings as we approach next week’s cut-off point.
The likes of Rio Ferdinand and club-captain Nemanja Vidic have not been fully replaced, the experience of Ryan Giggs has gone while more worrying still is the gaping gap in the centre of their midfield, with Fellaini,...

Manchester United may well be the Premier League’s biggest spenders in this summer’s transfer window, but there’s still a great deal of work left to be done before Monday night’s deadline. The market will close at the beginning of next week and United manager Louis van Gaal remains in urgent need of a new central midfielder.
£131.7 million has been splashed out on new players since last season, with the Reds bringing in left-back Luke Shaw, midfielder Ander Herrera, Angel Di Maria and his Argentina team-mate Marcos Rojo to put the likes of the usually-profligate Chelsea and Manchester City well and truly in the shade – when it comes to expenditure, at least.
United still lag a long way behind their aforementioned two rivals having collected just one point from their opening two games of the season so far, while their campaign...

One of the most obvious lessons from Newcastle’s goalless draw against Aston Villa was that Newcastle probably need something more up front. There is no question that Riviere has his value – and it will probably come when he is paired with someone else to take advantage of his good hold-up play – but he is not the experienced player needed.
So it’s good news that it looks like Newcastle might be about to announce their tenth signing of the summer – even if the source of that announcement is a bit odd. Speaking before the game at Villa Park, Neil Warnock told fellow self-promotionalist Robbie Savage and Darren Fletcher on BT Sport that Newcastle are going to make their next signing tomorrow.

Ryan Giggs will be the subject of a new documentary to be aired on ITV next week.
Life of Ryan: Caretaker Manager will focus on Giggs's four matches in charge of Manchester United, after he temporarily succeeded David Moyes in the final games of the 2013/14 Premier League season.
Giggs will discuss the highs and lows of his first managerial role, as well as reflecting on his playing career and recent retirement.
Sir Alex Ferguson, Diego Maradona and former teammates Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and David Beckham will each appear in the documentary to discuss the career of the Welsh international.
Phil and Gary Neville will also discuss their experiences playing with Giggs, alongside the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher.
Although Giggs was not offered the role of Manchester United manager on a full-time basis, he has been recruited as assistant manager under Louis van Gaal.

After a relatively quiet January transfer window, it appears David Moyes is moving quickly to set up his summer targets, if today’s story in the Daily Star is anything to go by.
With United facing accusations all season of lacking bite in midfield (as well as creativity, at least until Juan Mata came in,) it is plainly obvious that the Reds needs further defensive midfield options, especially with Michael Carrick prone to injury and Darren Fletcher not yet looking the same player as before his debilitating illness took him out of the picture for so long. The Star say that Moyes will look to rectify that issue in the summer with a bid for Newcastle United’s Ivorian enforcer Cheick Tiote.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has made a marked improvement since arriving at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
After a difficult spell in England which saw his body strength and abilities to cope with the rigours of English football called into question, the Spaniard has put his troubles behind him.
De Gea’s performances have been one of only a few positives from what has largely been a troublesome debut season for David Moyes, who has struggled to step into Sir Alex Ferguson’s shoes.
United have already lost eight times this season, the most games they have ever lost since the inception of the Premier League, and are floundering in seventh.
But while the Red Devils have been struggling, midfielder Darren Fletcher recently singled de Gea out for praise, saying:
He has been fantastic for us. There has not been a better goalkeeper around for the last 18 months.

Manchester United have been told they can have Juan Mata – for £40 million.
That’s the news that broke at the start of the week and though Chelsea are apparently reciprocal to the idea of selling their unused star to the champions, a move remains unlikely.
Mata is very much on the fringes at Stamford Bridge having only made 13 Premier League appearances this season, and was left out of the Blues’ win over United at the weekend.
The Red Devils are desperate to add creativity to their midfield and the Spain star would certainly be a tonic, having created more chances than all of their central midfielders combined this term.
With 30 chances created, that’s more than half that mustered up by Michael Carrick and dwarfs Tom Cleverley’s seven, Shinji Kagawa’s six, Darren Fletcher’s two and Marouane Fellaini’s one.
But a move is probably not going to happen.

Samuel Eto’o trebled his Premier League goal tally for Chelsea by hitting a hat-trick against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge that keeps the Blues hot on the heels of Arsenal.
David Moyes’s Red Devils slumped to their seventh league defeat of the campaign meanwhile, leaving their title defence all but over with 16 games to go. Javier Hernandez netted a consolation here, but United captain Nemanja Vidic saw red before the end. Rafael almost followed suit too.
Jose Mourinho made two changes to the Chelsea team that won at Hull. Ashley Cole and Fernando Torres made way as Branislav Ivanovic returned from injury in defence. Eto’o was preferred in attack and Cesar Azpilicueta switched flanks to left back.
Moyes meanwhile fielded an XI sporting three alterations from the league win over Swansea last time out. Darren Fletcher, Shinji Kagawa and Chris Smalling all dropped to the bench.

Swansea made history by winning at Old Trafford thanks to Wayne Routledge’s early chip and a late Wilfried Bony header. Manchester United fell at the first Fa Cup hurdle despite Javier Hernandez scoring as substitute Fabio was sent off.
Defeat for the Red Devils – their fifth at home in all competitions this term – increases the pressure on David Moyes. United are still in the Capital One Cup, but look short of strength to defend their Premier League title and make a big splash in the Champions League.

Premier League champions Manchester United came from two goals down at Hull City to take a hard-earned victory. James Chester opened and ended the scoring, netting at both ends.
The Tigers doubled their lead through David Meyler, but Wayne Rooney then exerted his influence on the match, making one for Chris Smalling before scoring himself and creating the winner.
Hull boss Steve Bruce named an unchanged XI for the fourth match running. Ashley Young scored his first club goal since May 2012 as Manchester United survived stormy weather to win at Stoke City in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals. David Moyes’s Red Devils edged a match of few chances with captain Patrice Evra also on target.
Young fired wide into the side-netting for United as hosts Stoke survived an early scare. Anderson then worked Thomas Sorensen in the home goal with a low effort midway through the first half.
Referee Mark Clattenburg briefly brought the players off amid a hailstorm. The delay lasted about eight minutes. Just before half time both Red Devils centre backs almost combined for a corner when Chris Smalling nodded across to the unsuspecting Jonny Evans.

Manchester United’s excellent record away to Aston Villa continued as a first half Danny Welbeck double set the Premier League champions on their way to victory. Tom Cleverley was also on target after the break as David Moyes won his first league game in over a month.

The Cottagers will be without Hugo Rodallega and Matthew Briggs for today’s tough home fixture. Influential defender Brede Hangeland remains doubtful. Manager Martin Jol is likely to stick with Darren Bent and Dimitar Berbatov up front, while Kacaniklic could be preferred in midfield over Bryan Ruiz.
Manchester United have Danny Welbeck and Darren Fletcher as the confirmed absentees. Marouane Fellaini is likely to start alongside Michael Carrick in midfield – replacing the equally unimpressive Tom Cleverley. Manager David Moyes must consider whether Javier Hernandez deserves a starting birth after his recent goal-scoring form.
Fulham are coming off the back a 4-3 defeat to Championship side Leicester City in the Capital One Cup. The side also lost to Southampton 2-0 prior to the cup game. Jol is under intense pressure as the London outfit are...

We’re midway through the summer transfer window and there’s already been plenty to talk about – though regrettably from Manchester United’s point of view not a great deal with regards to the champions.
After last season’s virtual procession to the Premier League title, which United won by a margin of 11 points, you’d perhaps be forgiven for thinking the Red Devils don’t need reinforcements.
However, with Paul Scholes retiring, Ryan Giggs not all that far away either and the likes of Darren Fletcher, Nani and Anderson all facing uncertain futures, you perhaps start to see why United might need to buy in some added quality.
Then there’s the “Wayne Rooney situation”, with rumours suggesting the striker could be about to quit the club and sign for domestic rivals Chelsea in a move that go down as one of the most shocking deals in recent times.

Manchester United’s trip to Swansea on Saturday evening will be the dawn of a new era for the club with David Moyes leading the Red Devils out for their first league game since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
A string of injuries to first team players currently plague the visitors. The suspended Rafael misses out, plus Jonny Evans is a doubt for the United back line.
Michael Carrick, Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez are also doubts whilst midfield duo Nick Powell and Darren Fletcher are definite exclusions due to injury.
As for Swansea, Pablo Hernandez is expected to make a recovery from the injury that ruled him out of the Swans’ trip to Sweden last Thursday but Jonathan de Guzman will miss out after suffering a concussion on international duty with Holland.

Wayne Rooney is a surprise inclusion in the England squad for their clash with “The Auld Enemy” on Wednesday night.
The want-away United striker has played a mere 45 minutes in pre-season, and major questions will be asked whether a player with so little game time should have been included.
Aside from “Wazza”, it’s a vital preparation game for Roy Hodgson ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month. He’ll also have a chance to blood 31-year-old striker Rickie Lambert, the Southampton star who scored 15 Premier League goals last season is yet to be capped for England.
Scotland, under new manager Gordon Strachan, have been going well of late, winning 1-0 in Croatia courtesy of a Robert Snodgrass strike. It’ll be a chance for the former Liverpool manager to try out certain players, with international debuts expected for Brighton and Hove Albion’s defender Gordon Greer and Dundee...

Manchester United are likely to be without Wayne Rooney for Sunday’s Premier League curtain-raiser against Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield.
The 27-year-old has missed the majority of the champion’s pre-season campaign and did not feature in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial against Sevilla on Friday.
Javier Hernandez is expected to take his place, while new signing Wilfried Zaha will likely get a run-out.
Defender Jonny Evans and winger Nani are expected to miss out after limping off against Aik Solna on Tuesday, while midfielder Darren Fletcher is continuing his recovery from a serious bowel condition.

Manchester United are set to renew their interest in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas after missing out on Thiago Alcantara, according to the Independent.
Bayern Munich reached agreement with Barca last night on a £21.5 million deal for Thiago, who will reportedly put pen to paper on a four year deal at the Allianz Arena.
The youngster had been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, and the Premier League champions are now set to step up their pursuit of Fabregas again after missing out.
They may face difficulty there, however, as the sale of Thiago will likely reduce Barca’s inclination to sell yet another of their midfielders, while the former Arsenal star will probably cost somewhere in the region of £34 million.
Furthermore, any interest from the Gunners, who have first refusal on the star if ever he becomes available, would likely prove another stumbling block in United’s interest.

Manchester United’s summer pursuit of Thiago Alcantara appears to have hit a dead end.
The young Barcelona midfielder has been in high demand recently, especially as it was revealed he could be made available for a fraction of his original release clause due to a technicality in his contract over the percentage of games played last season.
That has seen the youngster’s market value plummet from £77 million to “just” £15 million, say reports, which has put a number of the continent’s leading clubs on red alert, such as United and Bayern Munich.
But the latter could land a devastating blow on their rivals by beating the English champions to the starlet’s signature, as we reported today.
That would come as a hammer blow to United manager David Moyes, who was hoping Thiago could bolster a midfield depreciated by the retirement of Paul Scholes, while the futures of...

Manchester United have been dealt a crushing blow in their pursuits of Thiago Alcantara with news that the Barcelona midfielder is set to join Bayern Munich instead, according to the Daily Mail.
It was thought United were close to signing the 22-year-old after the player decided his hopes in securing a place in next summer’s World Cup were better served away from the Nou Camp.
However, news from his homeland suggests he is about to sign for the Champions League winners and reunite with former manager Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola, who led Barca to three La Liga crowns and two Champions League trophies, said earlier this week:
“People have to know that Barca players are not leaving for money or desire. There are two possibilities: they dump you or you feel like you should be playing and Barcelona do not”
Bayern are reportedly prepared to accommodate Thiago in their midfield...

According to TalkSport, Manchester United summer target Kevin Strootman has snubbed a move to Old Trafford by committing himself to another season at Psv Eindhoven.
Psv’s technical manager has confirmed that Strootman will stay in Holland for at least another season. He said:
“[Kevin] Strootman we do not want to lose. He also knows himself that he will play at Psv for another season.”
The 23-year-old has been rumoured all summer with a move to the Premier League champions but any potential deal will now be put on hold for at least a year.
The Dutch star was reportedly being lined up with a £10 million move to Old Trafford and with having played in 35 games last season, interest from United had been high. Strootman has already received 18 caps for his country and has proven he can battle the best.

So, with Fergie finally hanging up the hairdryer, what does his replacement David Moyes need to do to retain the title once more for the red side of Manchester?
Every year United are linked with central midfielders and every year we see them get by with the options they have. With Paul Scholes retiring (again) and Darren Fletcher’s ongoing health issues, United have the chance to rejuvenate their midfield once more. Michael Carrick is the stand out player in the centre, after what was undoubtedly his finest season in his career, but with Anderson, Tom Cleverley and Phil Jones as back up, you would have to think that this is a key area of the squad that Moyes need to strengthen.
Here are 5 options that I think would improve the centre midfield of United…
5. Marouane Fellaini
Perhaps the obvious option given the allegiance he has with Moyes but Fellaini...

According to the Daily Star’s sources in Holland, Manchester United will sign Dutchman Kevin Strootman from Psv Eindhoven for a fee of £10 million.
Strootman, 23, would be a replacement for the retired Paul Scholes, and looks likely to become David Moyes’ first signing as Manchester United manager.
Psv signed the 6ft’1 player from Fc Utrecht back in summer 2011 and in his two years there he has racked up appearances in Europe league campaigns as well as the Dutch domestic cup. He has played 35 times for Psv this season, scoring on six occasions to help his side become runners-up in the Dutch Eredivisie to Ajax. Strootman has already won 18 caps for the Netherlands and is an international colleague of Robin Van Persie.
David Moyes was interested in the Dutch international whilst at Everton, requesting his scouts to keep regular reports on his development and has now continued that interest at Old Trafford.

Last week was a momentous week in the history of Manchester United and one that could shape the immediate future of the club drastically.
Not one but two club legends announced their retirements, and one was more unexpected than the other.
Veteran manager Sir Alex Ferguson will step down after more than 26 years in charge to be replaced by David Moyes, and that is something of which is still causing shockwaves in and around Manchester as fans struggle to come to grips with the news.
Meanwhile, the shy and reserved Paul Scholes also announced his retirement but will slip away in much quieter fashion.
Not one for guards of honour or making public speeches, his absence next season will not be felt as keenly at Old Trafford as that of Ferguson’s.

Midfield has quite often been an area of concern for Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were overrun in the 2009 Champions League final against Barcelona, and again two years later, and they have lacked an enforcer ever since Roy Keane’s departure in 2005. Meanwhile, the once majestic talents of Ryan Giggs and particularly Paul Scholes are beginning to wane, while there are serious doubts over the futures of a number of other players.
Nani has been linked with a move away from the club, as has Anderson, while Shinji Kagawa and Darren Fletcher have suffered injury-laden campaigns and have spent much of the current season on the sidelines.
The arrival of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace in the summer will provide United’s midfield with a much needed injection of youthful vitality and pace, but the overriding feeling is that there is still much work to be done in the midfield department for Ferguson.

This fixture last season saw an injury-hit United stroll to a 2-0 victory with goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez.

United are set to welcome back Ashley Young, missing since the opening day with a knee injury, but are still without England defender Chris Smalling.
Serbian centre-back Nemanja Vidic is still on the long-term injury list but, after an outstanding performance for Northern Ireland against Portugal, Jonny Evans looks set to be a capable replacement over the coming months. The international break has been rather kind to the Red Devils, and all of their players have returned unscathed from the most recent spell with their national sides.

A youthful Manchester United team booked their place in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup, after seeing off a spirited Newcastle side at Old Trafford.
Anderson opened the scoring for the home side just before half time, when his driven left-foot effort cannoned in off the post.
Tom Cleverley then made it 2-0 for Sir Alex’s men, his curling strike finding the net from 18 yards.
But Papiss Cisse ensured that it was a nervy finish to the match for United, almost sending the game into extra time after scoring a close-range header, and rattling the crossbar with a spectacular overhead kick.
The Red Devils welcomed back both Wayne Rooney and Darren Fletcher from injury, and the two were in exceptional from as United dominated possession early on.
Rob Elliot was the busier of the two keepers, and he had to be at his best to deny Anderson...

Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney returned to action last night in his clubs Capital One Cup clash against Newcastle United following a thigh injury sustained a month ago.
Rooney received a badly gashed leg against Fulham last month that required stitches, and it was initially suspected that he would miss up to two months of action.
The England international has made a quick return however having completed over 70 minutes of his sides 2-1 win over Newcastle, and looks set to return to the Premier League against Tottenham at the weekend.
There was more good news for United on the injury front last night as Darren Fletcher came through 90 minutes of football as he captained the side to victory in the absence of Nemanja Vidic, who is out for 8 weeks after undergoing surgery. The Scot had been battling a chronic bowel illness for a year and at one stage it was...

Two Premier League clubs will meet tonight as Manchester United welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford which is set to be an exciting match featuring two very strong sides.
Manchester United come into this game in good form having won their last five games, as for Newcastle they may have only won two in their last five but they have only conceded just three goals whilst United have let in double that figure.
If he plays, there is no doubt that Demba Ba will cause problems for United as he is in great form having scored four league goals already this season. Newcastle will defiantly try to pressure United’s inexperienced players throughout the game, although with United fielding such as strong team it will be easy to break Newcastle if they lose concentration.

The Magpies are off to Old Trafford; with 40 years of misery at the Manchester fortress to make up for. The last time Newcastle United beat Manchester United at Old Trafford was in 1972, and Alan Pardew will be hoping his troops can continue their relatively successful start to the premier league in the Capital One Cup, however hard it may be.
It’s predicted that Sir Alex Ferguson will field a slightly weakened team- if you could call it that- with Nick Powell, Alex Buttner and David De Gea presumed to be starting. Now, we all know Fergie doesn’t think Too much of the competition itself, but against a strong Newcastle side, he does need to consider his options thoroughly, with Lindegaard showing his physicality in recent games, something that De Gea has always lacked in-between the sticks.
However, United may need De Gea’s quick hands, with Cheick Tiote...

Having made eleven changes for his side’s 5-3 win at Young Boys in midweek, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will roll out the big guns against Manchester United as his beleaguered troops go in search of their first three points of the season. The likes of Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez were rested for that encounter, but both will play against their fierce rivals.
Manchester United meanwhile look set to recall Robin van Persie and Patrice Evra to the squad after both missed out on a starting role against Wigan last weekend. Darren Fletcher may again make the bench after showing promising signs of recovery after a long bout with a stomach illness; The Scottish international came on as a second half substitute in his sides mid-week Champions League victory over Galatasary.

Manchester United come face-to-face with Turkey’s most honoured team, Galatasaray, in what will surely be a fiery encounter. The two have not met in Europe since 1993, when Ferguson’s troops travelled to Istanbul in the second leg of a second round tie, a 0-0 draw which resulted in the Red Devils being knocked out of the Champions League, after being held by the resilient Turks 3-3 at Old Trafford. The travelling fans for this fixture will inevitably arrive in good numbers, brimming with ardent support for their beloved team, and nobody would expect any less from such a passionate bunch. The Theatre of Dreams may be a daunting arena for other visiting teams, but the Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim has let it be known to the media that his team are not in the least bit intimidated. The away end...

On Saturday, Sir Alex’s men take on Roberto Martinez’s Wigan Athletic, in a match that promises to be of a high attacking standard. In the previous fixture at Old Trafford, United ran out 5-0 winners in a merciless rout that preserved their 100% record against the Latics, in games where United found the net frequently. However, in April, it was Wigan who emerged victorious, outplaying their lacklustre opponents by combining attractive football with an abundance of desire to emerge 1-0 winners. It was a deserved result and a defeat that will live long in the memory of the Red Devils, who will not want a repeat score-line this time around.
Neither team has got off to the best of starts this season, but they will be looking to gain momentum at the Theatre of Dreams and kick-start a vain of good form. The bookies will have United down as firm favourites,...
