Synopsis: The streets of N.Y. might be temporarily silent, but in downtown Manhattan in the early 90’s, they were the site of a dynamic collision between two vibrant subcultures: skateboarding and hip hop. Jeremy Elkin’s documentary, All The Streets Are Silent, narrated by Eli Morgan Gesner, brings to life the magic of this time period and the convergence that created an urban style and visual language that would have an outsized and lasting cultural effect. If Paris Is Burning and Kids had a baby, you’d have this documentary love letter to New York—examining race, society, fashion and street culture—and full of archival footage featuring legendary characters and figures from the downtown scene. Featuring Rosario Dawson, Harold Hunter, Justin Pierce, Keith Hufnagel, Darryl McDaniels (Run-d.M.C.), Jefferson Pang, Bobbito Garcia, Stretch Armstrong, Kool Keith, Leo Fitzpatrick, Mike Hernandez, DJ Clark Kent, Kid Capri, Mike Carroll,...

Exclusive: All the Streets Are Silent, a documentary portrait of the skateboarding and hip-hop scenes in New York in the late 1980s and early ’90s, has been acquired by Greenwich Entertainment.
The U.S. rights deal precedes the film’s world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June. The film will be released in theaters on July 23.
Jeremy Elkin is making his feature directing debut with All the Streets Are Silent, which is described as “a love letter to New York” blending elements of Paris Is Burning and Larry Clark’s Kids.

Their convergence would give rise to modern street style. Eli Gesner, founder of skateboard gear and fashion brand Zoo York, will narrate the film. Hip-hop producer Large Professor, known...

Jenny Lewis’ stellar songwriting chops were visible back in 2001 on Takeoffs and Landings, the first LP by Rilo Kiley, the band she co-fronted with Blake Sennett. They’ve only grown stronger since — and as her take on the Traveling Wilburys’ “Handle With Care” proved, she’s got a way with covers, too. To give some context to On The Line, her fourth solo LP, here are some highlights, past to present.

"Drones - those things are evil." Syfy Films has debuted a new official trailer for an interesting sci-fi film titled Hover, about a drone-filled future where A.I. drones operate as police to manage the few humans left after a deadly, catastrophic drought. Finally, we have the one of the first ever films about evil drones! Well, there's probably been a few others, but now they've made a cheesy Syfy one about bad police drones in a dystopian future. Hover stars Cleopatra Coleman, who also wrote the screenplay, and features Shane Coffey, Craig muMs Grant, Fabianne Therese, Rhoda Griffis, Leo Fitzpatrick, Beth Grant, and Rhonda Johnson Dents. This unfortunately doesn't look that good, surprise surprise from Syfy, but it is still an interesting concept for a film. And they're actually giving it a theatrical release anyway. Take a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Matt Osterman's Hover,...

The split caps a blissful year during which the two captured headlines — and photographers’ lenses — with their glamorous, globe-trotting romance, which spanned posh locales like Ibiza, St. Bart’s and the Bahamas.
The Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, 25, and Oscar-winning actor, 42, had mostly kept their relationship – which kicked off last summer – out of the spotlight. Here’s a look back at everything we know that’s happened since they first linked up.

You time is valuable, and so are both services for different reasons.War Machine (Netflix)
Although there may be a competition going on between Amazon and Netflix for subscribers, the truth is that both company’s streaming services are essential for anyone who watches a lot of movies and TV and who wants to be part of the pop culture conversations as they happen.
There’s no denying that Amazon Prime is worth the $99/year, which not only gives you access to many movies but also a good amount of music streaming and digital media access, plus faster shipping for when you actually want some sort of physical product (you can also just get video content for $8.99/month, which oddly means paying more for less).
And Netflix is still a must-have for both its exclusive and nonexclusive content, though depending on one’s usage could be best for sporadic membership rather than continued subscription — now at $120/year...

The Golden Globes has long held a reputation as the loosey-goosey younger sibling of the Academy Awards. Maybe it’s because it’s the start of awards show season, and stars aren’t yet tired of the red carpet grind. Or maybe it’s just become a self-fulfilling prophecy of the show that celebrities are going to get a little silly, but for whatever reason, the Globes annually seem to give us more double-take moments than most Hollywood spectacles. Let’s look at some of our favorites.

No, youth of America, parmesan is not a vegan food item. But damn if that doesn’t stop Zosia Mamet from asking for them from a presumably beleaguered bodega owner in a very funny deleted scene from Danny Sangra’s “Goldbricks in Bloom.” Mamet toplines the feature, which smartly and sharply upbraids some of the worst bits of current millennial culture. Kale chips? Just the tip of the iceberg.
The film is Sangra’s feature debut, and is described as “a social satire that explores what it means to be an artist today by interweaving the story of a self-obsessed group of disenchanted young creatives with the mythic rise and fall of a New York painter.” Over the past six years, Sangra has made over 30 short films, a number of which feature interconnected characters and stories. “Goldbricks” mines that for more fun, as it pushes together some of his previous creations.

While “Girls” is set to air its final season sometime next year, main cast member Zosia Mamet has spent the past year appearing in films like Todd Solondz’s “Wiener-Dog” and Steve Bernstein’s “Dominion.” Now, she’s set to appear in the new film “Goldbricks in Bloom,” a social satire that explores what it means to be an artist today by interweaving the story of a self-obsessed group of disenchanted young creatives with the mythic rise and fall of a New York painter. In 2004, Fisher Stevens went to Ohio with a coalition of artists to help John Kerry get elected president. It didn’t work, but Stevens — an actor-turned-director best known for campy roles in a string of ’80s and ’90s films such as “Short Circuit” and “Hackers” — emerged a changed man. “It was a fucked-up time,” Stevens recalled over lunch near his offices in downtown Manhattan, “but this a whole other fucked-up time.”
Flash forward a dozen years and Stevens is enmeshed in a new stage of his career, as a prolific documentarian who moonlights as an actor. Six years ago, he won an Oscar as a co-producer of “The Cove,” photographer-turned-filmmaker Louie Psihoyos’ thrilling exposé of the Japanese fishing industry. By then, he had stepped away from GreeneStreet Films, the independent production company he started in 1996 with John Penotti. We revisit HBO's sterling and seminal prison drama Oz on the run-up to its 20th anniversary...
Oz is sometimes criminally overlooked in the pantheon of TV dramas, which is a great sin indeed; not only because the show is the obvious grand-or-God parent to a multitude of modern classics (without Oz, it's doubtful whether The Sopranos would've existed), but also because it's an immaculately acted, endlessly compelling, emotionally resonant powerhouse of a show that demands – and deserves – recognition and respect.

Most of Aaron Sorkin’s professional life has been spent making political debates — both personal and public — into poetically entertaining and informative exchanges. In “The West Wing,” he did it every week. Josh and Toby would fight it out until one was proven the victor or a compromise was reached. In “The Newsroom,” Will McAvoy would lambaste politicians, and his reports would often lead to various ethical conversations with his staff.
The point is, Aaron Sorkin knows a thing or two about winning a debate, and our current presidential candidates could learn from his work. We’ve examined the most pertinent examples of debate procedures, and the points below represent key strategies for winning a verbal battle. Apply them wisely.

It would not be unfair to call Swiss Army Man “the movie about the farting corpse with the boner,” because that is the perfect description of Manny (Daniel Radcliffe), one of its two lead characters (the other is love-torn Hank played by Paul Dano). What would be unfair is to only call it that, because it’s actually one of the most unexpectedly sensitive films of 2016.
As directed by the Daniels (Kwan and Scheinert) the film combines the best of buddy films, mumblecore aesthetics and unexpected romance to become something that defies genre and what’s politically correct on film. Needless to say so, it’s a delightful surprise and perfect counter-programming for a season so marked by how alike everything looks. Whether you like the film or not, the true thing is that you won’t be able to get it out of your mind for quite some time.

The legend of Hugh Glass lives on.
After winning three Oscars, including best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and best director for Alejandro G. Inarritu, The Revenant proved to be one of the best movies to watch in 2016.
Viewers familiar with the movie not only discussed the performance by DiCaprio, but about the story of Hugh Glass, a fur trapper who was left for dead after a bear mauling in the 1820s.
One of the big contributors to this film will have to be historian Clay Landry, who served as a technical advisor for the film. With his help, he advised on the historical accuracy for the time period on the project. The production staff consulted on the details with him from the weapons, clothing, language and even down to the buffalo meat.

Banshee's final season has been so full of water-treading, can next week's finale still go out with a bang?
This review contains spoilers.
4.7 Truths Other Than The Ones You Tell Yourself
In the second last episode of Banshee ever, the penultimate hour before everything comes, in theory, to an explosive ending, one big thing of note happened. Well, two, but only one that has any real bearing on the plot of this season thus far. The satanic serial killer, Declan Bode, died. He died, Proctor thanked Hood, Dawson remained traumatised, and that was it.
Did anybody else feel like this was a gigantic anticlimax that singularly failed to do anything interesting with the boring and kind of crap serial killer plot? I mean, was there anything more predictable than Dawson being kidnapped only to be saved by Brock and Hood in the last moments?
I could have forgiven all of it,...
