The chants and shouts of pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the entry to the Washington Hilton for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, but once inside, attendees were greeted with what has become the usual scene: Celebrities on the red carpet, a crush for the security line and glitterati packed into a cavernous ballroom.
“I want to thank my wife for enduring lots of jokes and for agreeing to individually meet everyone in this room right after the ceremony,” the evening’s featured entertainer, Colin Jost, quipped about Scarlett Johansson, who posed for photos with a non-stop stream of attendees. She continued to do so later in the evening, at the Comcast-nbcu after party at the French ambassador’s residence.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 cannot seem to shake off the chaos surrounding its production. Sony and Marvel would love to bring back the web-slinger for a fourth film, as it was Spider-Man: No Way Home that gave their respective last billion-dollar film. However, the film hasn’t locked a director yet, with Jon Watts stepping away from the duties. One of the latest rumors suggested that Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man film series, will be helming the film.

The scars given by Avengers: Endgame will not heal for a long time to come. Not only did we lose Black Widow and Iron Man to the ultimate sacrifice, but things went downhill for the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon after. Regardless, the film is one of the finest to exist in the superhero universe and its ending is going to stay with the fans forever.
Black Widow’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame
However, there was a slight chance that Avengers: Endgame would have been even more devastating than it was. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had initially pitched to kill off all the original Avengers and not just Black Widow and Iron Man. Luckily, the Russo Brothers were right there to intervene and were able to put a stop to this just in time.

Attention: The Following Report Is A Rumor. Please Take The Following Story With A Grain Of Salt.
The 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home was seen as not only the third installment of a popular trilogy of Spider-Man films but also the celebration of two decades of Spider-Man in the cinema. Bringing together the worlds of Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire was seen as a cinematic event on par with Avengers: Endgame.
Nearly three years later, Sony has been dropping the ball on nearly every Spider-Verse-related project, with massive flops such as Morbius and Madame Web. With Sony seemingly desperate to hang on to the Spider-Man license, they know they need the next Tom Holland Spider-Man film to be on equal footing with the previous film.
One of the rumored plots for the project would be a direct follow-up with both Garfield and Maguire returning, while Kevin Feige wants to start fresh.

The next live-action Spider-Man film is said to be shooting in September, and there’s another rumour that Sam Raimi is going to direct it.
Following a report earlier this week that Marvel and Sony’s sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home is to begin filming this September, along comes a new rumour that Sam Raimi is stepping in as director. If true, it’d be a popular choice given that he made such a successful – even genre-defining – Spider-Man trilogy of his own from 2002 onwards.
The latest whisper comes to us via World of Reel, which reports that Raimi is “in contention” to direct the upcoming film, with the other directors in the running said to be Marvel regular Jon Favreau, and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein – directors of last year’s cheerfully entertaining fantasy Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.

The Lion King remains, even today, as one of the most beloved Disney animated features. A true classic, the movie is considered to be one of Disney’s best animated movies, despite the fact that there were some controversies related to Kimba: The White Lion back then. Now, in 2019, Disney produced a live-action CGI remake of The Lion King which was also a solid success for the production company and we know that this year will see a prequel, titled Mufasa: The Lion King, premiere in cinemas on December 20, 2024.
So far, Disney has been scarce about releasing footage from the upcoming Barry Jenkins-directed movie, but the attendees at CinemaCon got to see the first exclusive teaser for the upcoming movie. And while the teaser has not been released online just yet, we know what was shown and we are going to reveal all of it to you here:

Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King is slated for a year-end release. The upcoming prequel to 2019’s adventure musical The Lion King is helmed by filmmaker Barry Jenkins who has made Oscar-winning films like If Beale Street Could Talk and Moonlight.
Jenkins recently appeared at CinemaCon 2024 and discussed his new Disney venture. The Moonlight director also addressed the biggest criticism his prequel film and its 2019 predecessor faced. Many fans doubt if 2024’s Mufasa: The Lion King will also walk down the same path as director Jon Favreau’s film.

Disney’s presentation at CinemaCon made sure to carve out some time to focus on their upcoming animated movies. We’ve already covered Inside Out 2, but CinemaCon audiences were also treated to teasers for Mufasa: The Lion King and Moana 2.
Director Barry Jenkins took the stage to promote the Lion King prequel, adding that he had seen the original Disney animated movie over 200 times and knew he had to take the gig. “When the script came to me I was fascinated by watching these complex people dealing with complex emotions…this film explores Mufasa rise to become the heroic king that we know,” Jenkins said.

Disney is welcoming the king of the Pride Lands back to Las Vegas. The studio unveiled a stirring, all-new trailer of “Mufasa: The Lion King” on Thursday at CinemaCon, the annual convention for movie theater owners.
“Mufasa: The Lion King” is expected to focus on the early years of the eventual ruler of the animals, as well as his menacing younger brother Scar. The film will feature the voices of Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as the younger version of Mufasa (voiced by James Earl Jones in the 1994 film and 2019 remake) and Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons in the 1994 version and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the 2019 remake).
The brief but majestic footage, which isn’t yet available to the public, explores the same stunningly realistic African savannah as its predecessor and begins with the iconic “Lion King” overture. A young Mufasa is seen leaping over rhinos and all kinds of...

Mufasa: The Lion King is coming out of the shadows and beginning to practice its roar.

The legal and cultural cage match between Gina Carano and the Walt Disney Company over the Mouse House deep-sixing the former Mma star from The Mandalorian in 2021 just saw more blood spilled.
“Disney has confirmed what has been known all along, they will fire you if you say anything they disagree with, even if they have to Misrepresent, Malign, and Mischaracterize you to do it,” wrote Carano today (capitalization hers) on social media.
“They are now on record letting everyone who works for them know that Disney will take any chance they get to control what you say, what you think or they will attempt to destroy your career,” she said, a day after Disney filed a motion to dismiss Carano’s wrongful discharge and sex discrimination lawsuit over her firing from Mandalorian. “Glad we cleared that up.”

“Disney had enough.”
In a filing Tuesday night to dismiss Gina Carano’s wrongful-discharge and sex-discrimination lawsuit over being fired from The Mandalorian, the Mouse House states that the former Mma fighter lost her Star Wars series job in 2021 because her decision “to publicly trivialize the Holocaust by comparing criticism of political conservatives to the annihilation of millions of Jewish people—notably, not ‘thousands’—was the final straw for Disney.”

Exclusive: After a feverish courtship of Francis Coppola between the organizers of the Cannes, Venice and Toronto film festivals, Megalopolis has been locked into a gala premiere slot on the Palais on Friday evening May 17, I’m told. The film will premiere in competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
Cannes chief Thierry Fremaux wins the day on this one, on the eve of a full festival slate announcement Thursday. It comes shortly after a movie concept that had been eating at Coppola for 20 years was shown to buyers for the first time at the Universal CityWalk Imax Theater on March 28. Coppola’s longtime attorney Barry Hirsch is still in talks to secure a distribution partner for a film that will reach audiences in the fall, with an emphasis on Imax theaters.

Robert Downey Jr. would "happily" play Iron Man again. The 58-year-old actor portrayed Tony Stark and his superhero alter ego in 11 movies from 2008's 'Iron Man' to 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' and although his beloved character was killed off in the later movie, the Oscar-winning star insisted that doesn't have to mean fans have seen the last of him.He explained to Esquire magazine in a new interview: “It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”Elsewhere in the interview, his co-star Gwyneth Paltrow - who played Tony's assistant and wife Pepper Potts - revealed she gave up learning her lines for the films because of Downey's insistence on "throwing out" his scripts and improvising new dialogue at the last minute.

There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan in terms of quantity. There’s more Star Wars on screen and on the page now than ever before in the franchise’s history. From Disney+ series to video games to The High Republic books and Marvel comics, you can experience new adventures in the galaxy far, far away pretty much any way you want it right now. If Lucasfilm were able to get some movies off the ground, we’d be able to say that the franchise is firing on all cylinders.
Whether or not we finally do get some new Star Wars on the big screen in the years to come, the future of the franchise is still very bright, thanks to TV series like The Mandalorian, which has already expanded across multiple spinoffs full of Original Trilogy nostalgia and exciting new characters. In fact,...

Robert Downey Jr. may have strictly stuck to the script for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” but back for his MCU debut, the Oscar winner shrugged off any lines he didn’t like.
According to Downey’s “Iron Man” co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, Downey would tell director Jon Favreau “I’m not saying these fucking lines” each morning and “throw” out the scenes. Favreau and Downey would then improvise on set, leading Paltrow to also have to wait and see for her own dialogue.
“There would be this process of [director] Jon Favreau and Robert and I going into Jon’s trailer in the morning and Robert being like, ‘I’m not fucking saying these lines’ and throwing them out,” Paltrow told Esquire. “And then live improv-ing either in the trailer or on the set.”

Robert Downey Jr. may have recently won his first Oscar for Oppenheimer, but he’s not looking to run from his Marvel past.
In fact, the actor says he’d “happily” return as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
“It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey told Esquire in a new interview. “That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
Downey’s Iron Man met his fate in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame in what was arguably the most emotionally devastating moment in the 33-film Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Comics also always played fast and loose with character deaths, regularly killing off heroes and villains for effect, only to quickly bring them back, Marvel Studios boss Feige has previously said he’s rather protective of the moment Iron Man sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos.

Robert Downey Jr. is not closing the door on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which he kicked off in 2008 with “Iron Man” and headlined for 11 years through 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Iron Man met his demise in that tentpole, but that has never stopped rumors from circulating that Marvel is trying to bring Downey back into the fold, especially now that the MCU has hit a box office rough patch with 2023 flops such as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels.” Certainly, Downey’s return as Iron Man could restore Marvel to its blockbuster glory days.
Speaking to Esquire magazine after his Oscar win for “Oppenheimer” last month, Downey was asked if he would ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that he is officially an Academy Award winner. The actor didn’t hesitate to answer yes.
“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey said. “That role chose me.

THR reports that Beau Willimon is set to co-write the script for James Mangold’s Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.
Willimon is a playwright and screenwriter best known for developing House of Cards for Netflix, but he also has some Star Wars experience as he worked on the first season of Andor, writing three episodes of the critically acclaimed series. He will co-write the script for Dawn of the Jedi (which is just a working title) alongside Mangold, who will also direct.

One of several "Star Wars" movies currently in development at Lucasfilm just took a major step forward. Writer Beau Willimon is now set to co-write director James Mangold's upcoming adventure in a galaxy far, far away. Willimon will pen the script alongside Mangold for what is tentatively titled "Dawn of the Jedi", which was first announced last year during Star Wars Celebration.
The news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter. Willimon is perhaps best known for creating Netflix's "House of Cards." However, "Star Wars" fans will know him best as one of the writers of "Andor," the much-acclaimed Disney+ series about Cassian Andor. Most notably, he penned the episode "One Way Out," which is widely considered to be one of the best episodes of television in the history of the franchise. Willimon was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the episode. Now, he's getting the chance to tackle a movie.

In great news for fans of Baby Yoda, Buzz and Woody, and Disney princesses (as well as Disney shareholders), Disney announced a blockbuster slate of films set for release in 2026.
First up, on May 22, 2026, is “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” a feature expansion of the Emmy Award-winning “The Mandalorian” series that introduced the world to Baby Yoda. No word yet on whether star Pedro Pascal will appear as the title character as he’s done in the streaming series. Jon Favreau is aboard as director.
Next, on June 19, 2026, is “Toy Story 5.” Little is also known about that project but Disney boss Bob Iger revealed in 2023 that another installment of the Oscar-winning franchise was en route.
Finally, on July 10, 2026, Disney will release a live-action version of “Moana” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This is not to be confused with an animated “Moana” sequel that Disney has set for release later this year.

Julia Garner, the three-time Emmy-winning co-star of “Ozark,” looks to be joining Marvel’s next big bet, the relaunch of the First Family of Comics, “Fantastic Four.” As per Deadline, she’ll be appearing as the grooviest of villains, the Silver Surfer. But before you can reach for your podcast mic and shout about how producers are ruining movies by making them all woke, please note that a female version of the Silver Surfer, known as Shalla-Bal, does exist in various splinters of the comics’ multiverse. So there.
Whether or not director Matt Shakman, whose television credits include zany shows like “You’re The Worst” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” as well as “WandaVision,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will have the sand to include a moment in which Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm serenades Shalla-Bal with a rendition of the Beach Boys’s “Surfer Girl” remains to be seen.

In the early 2000s, Disney had a knack for making sequels to their beloved animated classics, which were often a notable step down from the original, in both the writing and animation department. But we can look past these subpar sequels, as they were meant for DVD/Video release, thus it didn’t leave a lasting impact on the legacy of the classics.
However, Disney’s trend of remaking acclaimed classics is a whole new low, as not only are they often a step down in quality, but also close the gates for the new generation to experience the originals. Moreover, several things that made the animated releases special often don’t translate well into live-action, with The Lion King being the most infamous example. And fans are once again riled up against Disney’s upcoming Mufasa flick.

It has been often seen in several movies and series that people of color (usually people of African heritage) spot a braided hairstyle. Alongside the braided hairstyle, an almost bald look or a one-side cut is also often seen with these characters.
People might call it stereotypical and even borderline racism, but this was the norm during the early 2000s. Well, with the animated series X-Men: Evolution, one character was almost about to suffer the same fate until the executive producers decided to step in and change it to something unique.
A still from X-Men: Evolution (2000-2003)
X-Men: Evolution Saved Itself From Being Stereotypical
Back in the early 2000s, X-Men: Evolution was a newly animated series based on, well… the X-Men. However, the series had to go above and beyond the walls set by its predecessor X-Men: The Animated Series, and hence, had to include new characters.

Shortly after denying Nelson Peltz a seat on the Disney board, the House of Mouse is sharing first looks at two of their upcoming films, Moana 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King. The Hollywood Handle was the first to share the Mufasa image, which Disney debuted as part of the studio’s 2024 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. The picture for Mufasa: The Lion King depicts a young Mufasa standing at the edge of a cliff while staring out at a desaturated Pride Land. The Barry Jenkins-directed sequel to Jon Favreau’s 2019 live-action hybrid focuses on Simba, having become king of the Pride Lands, and is determined for his cub to follow in his paw prints while the origins of his late father Mufasa are explored.

After the March 28 friends, family, and industry screening for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” at Universal’s CityWalk AMC in IMAX, reactions were wild. Some said it was his most ambitious film since “Apocalypse Now;” another described it to Puck as “batshit crazy.” Made for $120 million and bankrolled entirely by Coppola through the sale of one of his vineyards, it incorporates new VFX techniques — ones, the filmmakers hope, will be seen on the biggest screens possible.
For that to happen, it will need a major theatrical deal and the filmmakers are now in talks with distributors and major studios. However, those entities have been particularly risk averse these days — and while Coppola is a legend, he hasn’t made a commercial success in three decades.
The film’s stars include Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito; maybe, say, Paramount or Universal want to be back in the Coppola business.
