Exclusive: Raven-Symoné is extending her relationship with Disney, which she has called home for many years, with a new multi-year overall deal at Disney Branded Television. Under the pact, she will produce, direct, and develop projects across linear and streaming, with a focus on multi-cam comedies.
First off, she will executive produce and direct sitcom Alice in the Palace, which has received a pilot order. It is an Alice-centered spinoff from Raven-Symoné’s Disney Channel multi-camera comedy series Raven’s Home, which will not return for a seventh season. Its most recent Season 6 concluded its run in September 2023.
The deal with Raven-Symoné, which also includes continued acting and hosting opportunities, and the order for Alice in the Palace fits into Disney Branded Television’s strategy of building a new Disney Channel lineup of multi-camera sitcoms. In doing that, the company’s executive team has been leaning into classic Disney Channel IP.

Updated with latest: Selena Gomez revealed the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel title at Disney’s upfront Tuesday. The spinoff will be called Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. She also shared two first-look images which can be found below.
Deadline broke the news of the sequel series in January. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers. Andy Fickman directed and executive-produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.
The original show ran four seasons, winning Emmys and doing well in the ratings until star Selena Gomez decided it was time to graduate to more adult roles. The show ran from 2007-2012, with Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie also airing on the Disney Channel in 2009. The cast returned for a stand-alone television special, The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, in 2013.
There have been rumors of another reunion ever since and now, after a decade, Disney is making them a reality.

In accordance with its namesake, the new Syfy series“Day of the Dead” is jam-packed with the undead. Meet their maker: Emmy-award winning makeup effects artist Todd Masters.
Masters — who is known for his work on “Slither,” “Tales from the Crypt” and “True Blood” — and his company MastersFX were given the lead to head the special zombie makeup effects on the series. This ode to George A. Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds its audience that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of zombies trying to rip them apart. The series follows the story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. “Day of the Dead” also marks the first time that Masters serves as an executive producer.

Syfy is taking another comedic look at a zombie apocalypse.
The cabler unveiled the first trailer for its forthcoming scripted series, Day of the Dead, and it looks like a lot of fun.
From Abbott Street Films and Cartel Entertainment, the 10-episode series focuses on a town coming together when the dead comes back.
Instead of going the serious route like The Walking Dead and Black Summer, the trailer has the comedic approach of the original movie.
"Kiss my saggy ass," says one woman before she blows a building up.
There are many great scenes in the trailer, but it's very reminiscent of Z Nation, which managed to balance the humor and the horror very well.
"Day of the Dead follows a group of strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion," reads the logline.

Usually, zombies are faceless (sometimes literally) creatures who want nothing more than to eat the skin off your bones, and then maybe suck on your bones for a bit. In 1985, however, George Romero gave us Bub, a cuddly zombie who wanted nothing more than to call his auntie in Day of the Dead, the grand finale of the zombie trilogy. And now, in the very near future, we’re going to be seeing a new version of the semi-intelligent zombie on the small screen over on Syfy.
The adaptation is coming to us from Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who had such a good pitch that Syfy is skipping the pilot and giving the show a direct 10-episode order, shooting for a 2021 release. Syfy has given 10-episode straight-to series orders to Day of the Dead, based on George A. Romero’s classic zombie film, from Cartel Entertainment (Creepshow); and The Surrealtor, from Blue Ice Pictures (Ginny and Georgia). Both are expected to air on Syfy in 2021.
The Day of the Dead order follows the straight-to-series pickup by Syfy of another classic horror movie title, Chucky, as the network continues to expand its slate into the horror genre. Syfy has been investing in high-end scripted content with a focus on edgy, younger-skewing shows with off-kilter sensibility, including comic book adaptations.
The NBCUniversal cable network, which is mounting a major push in animation, also has been increasingly betting on straight-to-series orders vs. pilots with four in a row: Vagrant Queen, based on the comic and also produced by Blue Ice Pictures, Chucky, Day of the Dead and The Surrealtor. Unless you really think Danishka Esterhazy’s The Banana Splits Movie is going to mimic the kid-friendly environment of the 1960s Hanna-Barbera series, it won’t come as too much of a shock to learn that these are not the same Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper, and Snork of your childhood. No, in their big screen debut and faint rebirth back into the social stream, these four splits’ goal is to simply split you. And with this bloodthirsty reincarnation comes one of the strangest and, not speaking to its quality, welcomed films of the year.
With fans from all boroughs of pop culture demanding neatly packaged nostalgia trips, this picture mangles the memory of a kid’s pop-rock band and turns it into a gruesome pack of furry killing machines. Today we have the first trailer to share with you, and it came along with the caption, “The beloved children's show is back... with a vengeance, a horrible, bloody vengeance.”
The story follows “a boy named Harley and his family attend a taping of The Banana Splits TV show, which is supposed to be a fun-filled birthday for young Harley and business as usual for Rebecca, the producer of the series. But things take an unexpected turn — and the body count quickly rises. Can Harley, his mom and their new pals safely escape?'“
The movie looks like it’ll be a silly but fun horror movie. I do like the concept of turning kid...

When their show is on the verge of cancelation, a group of animatronic characters from a children's show take matters into their own furry hands to make sure their show goes on forever (no matter how much blood must be spilled) in the trailer for The Banana Splits Movie.
A creepy twist on Hanna-Barbera's The Banana Splits Adventure Hour children's show that ran from 1968–1970, The Banana Splits Movie (which has been rated R) will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital this summer and will also air on the Syfy channel this year.
Directed by Danishka Esterhazy from a screenplay by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, The Banana Splits Movie stars Dani Kind, Finlay Wojtak-Hissong, and Romeo Carere.
Reminiscent of the video game Five Nights at Freddy's, the new trailer for The Banana Splits Movie can be viewed below, and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed.

These aren't the Hanna-Barbera characters you remember. Mainly because they never killed anyone. That we know of.
While we sit and twiddle our thumbs waiting for a Five Nights At Freddy's movie, Syfy's Banana Splits Movie will seemingly go some way to keeping us sated for a bit.
Gore is not the first thing you tend to think of when reminiscing about the beloved live-action Hanna-Barbera series, but Fleegle the Beagle, Bingo the Gorilla, Drooper the Lion, and Snorky the Elephant are coming back in a rather more violent capacity to dish out some bloody vengeance in The Banana Splits Movie.
Directed by Danishka Esterhazy (Level 16) and written by Jed Elinoff & Scott Thomas, this reimagining of the 'Splits takes them down a dark path, one that they likely never envisioned when they blessed the small screen back in '68 to '70. The original actors to wear the...

One banana, two banana, three banana… gore?!
A beloved children’s show is back “with a vengeance, a horrible, bloody vengeance,” in Syfy’s The Banana Splits Movie, which released its first trailer on Thursday.
Directed by Danishka Esterhazy (Black Field) and penned by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, the telepic follows a family of four: Harley (played by Finlay Wojtak-Hissong) and his brother Austin (Romeo Carere), plus their parents Beth (Wynonna Earp‘s Dani Kind) and Mitch (Bitten‘s Steve Lund).
While attending a taping of beloved The Banana Splits TV series — starring Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky, of course!

An adorable children’s show is getting rebooted in the most unexpected way possible. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Syfy are teaming up to bring back the characters of The Banana Splits Adventure Hour for a special movie. This one definitely won’t be for the young ones, though. Instead, The Banana Splits film is going to take everything people loved about the program and turn it into a horrifying, bloody movie that’ll give fans of the original countless nightmares.
The trailer for the scary flick dropped today, much to the delight of the Internet, and it starts out innocent enough, as a boy’s family treats him to tickets to the eponymous kids’ show. What should have been a nice birthday treat for the young fan quickly turns into a battle for survival, though. The body count rapidly rises, leaving the protagonists to fight for their lives against sinister characters Bingo,...

A revival of the classic Hanna-Barbera costumed characters will have The Banana Splits leaning in to their creepy side.
As a child, I was scared by everything from the Blue Meanies from The Beatles' Yellow Submarine movie to Waylon Flowers' wise-cracking Madame puppet.
Admittedly, I was a weird kid.
But in my defense, growing up in the 1970s and '80s meant that you were bombarded with supposedly lovable characters who were in fact nothing but weaponized nightmare fuel.. Chief among these marketable terrors were the characters featured Hanna-Barbera's variety show/hellscape The Banana Splits.
Airing for two seasons from 1968-70, then repeated in syndication for perpetuity, this series combined the live-action antics of the animal-costumed characters Fleegle, Drooper, Bingo, and Snorky as they had indescrible adventures filmed at amusement parks that were intercut with other segments.
Most of the Splits-centric portions of the program had...

Well, here’s some interesting and weird movie news! the classic 1960s Hanna-Barbera kids program The Banana Splits is going to be making a come back as a film! But, there’s a little twist… it’s going to be a horror movie!
The Banana Splits is a TV series that premiered in 1968. It’s way before my time, and I’m not really familiar with it. But I went to YouTube to watch a few videos for it, and it definitely looks like it could and should be a psycho horror movie! Here’s a little description of it:
A laugh track-laden collection of live-action buffoonery and animated segments for undiscerning young minds. Whether in their crazy clubhouse or out cavorting among the public, costumed animal hosts Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky would engage in all manner of harmless nonsense, and even strap on musical instruments to perform hippie-dippie rock numbers.
