Joey Graziadei’s fantasy suites with the women of “The Bachelor” Season 28 marked not only the most-watched episode of his season so far, but reached a larger audience than any episode of “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette” or “Bachelor in Paradise” since the finale of Clayton Echard’s season in 2022 when accounting for three days of viewing. The only series in the franchise to outperform Joey’s since then has been the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor.”
The episode’s March 11 airing on ABC averaged a season high 3.8 million viewers according to Live + Same Day data from Nielsen. That number rose by 63.9% to 6.3 million viewers after three days of delayed viewing, inclusive of Hulu and other digital platforms, per a combination of Nielsen data and Disney’s own streaming calculations.
In rating among adults age 18-49, the episode started with a 0.7 and grew by 178% to a 1.9 in Multiplatform + 3 — the second highest this season.

Week 4 of Joey Graziadei’s season of “The Bachelor” brought major drama — and major viewership along with it.
The episode’s initial airing on ABC on Feb. 12 averaged 3.5 million viewers according to Live + Same Day data from Nielsen — a series high, up 9% from the week before — and with three days of delayed viewing across Hulu and other digital platforms, that number rose to 5.9 million.
The delayed viewing figure, calculated from a combination of Nielsen measurement and Disney’s proprietary streaming data, also represents a series high when compared to Multiplatform + 3 performance of previous episodes this season.
The first three episodes of Season 28 all opened to roughly 3.2 million viewers in Live + Same Day. After three days of multiplatform viewing, the premiere grew to 5.3 million viewers, Week 2 grew to 5.4 million, and Week 3 grew to 5.5 million, meaning that Week 4’s 69% jump from 3.5 million to 5.9 million viewers also marks the largest delayed viewing lift of the season.

Fans of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” are accustomed to a certain kind of opening for each season, one that’s typically high-energy and, in some way, a celebration of love in all its potential. On the 28th season, however, showrunners Jason Ehrlich, Claire Freeland, and Bennett Graebner tried something different: The premiere opens at the end of bachelor Joey Graziadei’s journey as he stands alone on a beach in tears, clearly having just broken someone’s heart or had his own broken — or both. The scene feels less constructed and more candid than usual, a feeling that continues as the series breaks the fourth wall and shows the crew as Joey wearily walks off set. Then there’s a sudden reverse scan through scenes that we haven’t seen yet but will over the course of the season, until the producers take us back two months to the...

It’s official – The Golden Bachelorette has received the green light from ABC and will air in the fall of 2024.

“The Bachelor” franchise is continuing to grow, with “The Golden Bachelorette” currently casting its lead and suitors — but that may not be the only spinoff in the works.

Judging from the reports coming from ABC’s panel yesterday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, it seems you could have heard a pin drop after the producers of The Bachelor were asked about the reality franchise’s racial issues. Eric Deggans, a media analyst and TV critic for NPR, put the question to Bachelor producers Bennett Graebner, Jason Ehrlich, and Claire Freeland, noting frustrations regarding Rachel Lindsay’s Bachelorette season and Matt James’ Bachelor edition, per Decider. Deggans also mentioned ex-host Chris Harrison’s dramatic exit from the franchise. “Why does it seem that The Bachelor and The Bachelorette have such a hard time dealing with racial issues?” Deggans asked the producers at Saturday’s panel, per TVLine. “Have you learned anything from these past scandals that led to the departure of Chris Harrison?” Paras Griffin/Getty Images for Tyler Perry Studios (For context, Lindsay, pictured above,...

Update: Following the panel, the producers spoke with Decider about what had happened on stage. “I was there for Matt James’ season. I was there for Rachel Lindsay’s season. I was also there for Michelle Young’s season, Tayshia Adams’ season, Charity Lawson’s season,” Graebner said. “I think as stewards of this franchise, which has been such a part of the cultural zeitgeist for over two decades, there’s a tremendous responsibility to have conversations on camera that are difficult and challenging — conversations about race, conversations about class, conversations about gender. We have done that. Have we always done it perfectly? No. We’ve certainly made some mistakes along the way. But moving forward we’re going to do everything in our power to correct this.”

The Bachelor producers froze Saturday when asked at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour about why the franchise seemingly has a hard time handling racial issues.
During a panel featuring showrunners from Jeopardy, Dancing With the Stars and Shark Tank, NPR’s Eric Deggans polled Bachelor producing trio Jason Ehrlich, Claire Freeland (both newcomers) and franchise veteran Bennett Graebner about why former star Rachel Lindsay and Matt James were both critical about how the Warners-produced franchise talks about race.
Freeland, who joined the Warner Bros. TV-produced Bachelor franchise in January 2023, attempted a response by saying that the show’s goal is to “represent the country” before shifting away from the question. Deggans, a respected veteran journalist and TCA member, then reiterated the question in a more direct fashion. At that point, all three producers remained mum for around 10 seconds, creating one of the more awkward moments of press tour.

“The Bachelor” producers were left speechless when asked why the ABC dating show seems to struggle with race during seasons headlined by Black leads.
The question was asked during a panel for ABC’s unscripted television programming during the Television Critics Association’s 2024 winter tour. Eric Deggans, a TV critic and media analyst for NPR, referenced Matt James’ season of “The Bachelor,” which eventually led to Chris Harrison stepping down as the series’ longtime host and featured a conversation with James’ father that the reality star has said was “troubling” and “painful,” and that was criticized by former “Bachelorette” lead Rachel Lindsay. Harrison stepped away from the franchise after defending a contestant who attended a plantation-themed fraternity formal on social media. James was the first Black Bachelor in the history of the long-running reality show.
Initially, when asked why the franchise has struggled with race, producer Claire Freeland fielded the question.

It sounds like “The Golden Bachelorette” could be right around the corner.
When it comes to focusing on a female lead, “nothing would make us happier,” executive producer and showrunner Bennett Graebner said during a Producers Guild FYC panel for “The Golden Bachelor” on Monday night. Newly engaged duo Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, as well as executive producers and showrunners Claire Freeland and Jason Ehrlich were also on the panel in New York.
During the “Golden Bachelor” finale, Turner, 72, and Nist, 70, got engaged after he sent home a devastated Leslie Fhima. Following the breakup, viewers have rallied on social media for Fhima, 64, to become the first Golden Bachelorette.

After years of controversies as ratings steadily declined, is 2023 the year The Bachelor franchise found redemption?
The prospect feels greater than ever following the outsized success of The Golden Bachelor, ABC’s ingenious senior-focused spin-off that, in its first season, saw 72-year-old Gerry Turner seize a second chance at love.
Audiences have clearly responded to this breath of fresh air, with over 9M tuning in for The Golden Bachelor finale after seven days of multi-platform viewing, in the franchise’s best audience in almost four years. This comes following an entire season of success for the show, which has repeatedly set audience records since it debuted, with the premiere episode recently becoming ABC‘s most-watched episode of an unscripted series ever on Hulu.
The network has already announced plans to further cash in on the success of Golden by televising Turner’s wedding, a move ABC hasn’t opted for in years.

ABC’s Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner commented on an exposé released this week that detailed his less-than-golden relationship past.
Turner was asked about the story by reporters while doing interviews for the hit reality show, which aired its season finale Thursday night. The Hollywood Reporter’s story, which ran one day ahead of the finale, detailed how the first Golden Bachelor’s past was a bit different than what’s been presented on the show. For instance, Turner had claimed that he hadn’t dated since his wife’s tragic death in 2017, but a former girlfriend disputed this. The woman identified only as “Carolyn” says she dated Turner for 10 months and lived with him in his Indiana home. She said Turner broke up with her because of her weight. ‘The Golden Bachelor’ Alum Joan Vassos Says She’d Jump at the Chance to Lead ‘Bachelorette’ Spin-Off
With whispers of a potential “Golden Bachelorette” spin-off rumbling across “Bachelor” nation, “The Golden Bachelor” alum Joan Vassos said she would jump at the chance if offered the gig — as soon as “tomorrow.”
“We believe in this process — we were just part of it,” Vassos told TheWrap during the Women Tell All taping. “You can be skeptical going in, but when you come out of it, it works, and they make it fun. ‘Bachelor’ nation is a great group of people and they’re very caring. They’re good at this.”
Sandra Mason echoed Vassos’ enthusiasm, adding that the process of finding a match on the ABC dating show is “doable.”
“Who wouldn’t want to have 22 men vying for our attention and falling in love with us so we get to choose?” Kathy Swarts told TheWrap, and Susan Noles noted she “would love” that scenario.

After 21 years on the air in its various iterations, “The Bachelor” has become an easy show to take for granted. To a certain degree, the producers are victims of their own generosity and smooth engineering; we never have to wait long enough for a new season of “The Bachelor” (or “The Bachelorette” or “Bachelor in Paradise“) to miss it, and the show is so well crafted that the audience isn’t aware of the craft at all — it feels like life is just unfolding before our eyes. Yet to ignore the artistry behind the camera on “The Bachelor” is to miss the fact that the franchise is one of the most thoughtfully constructed entertainments on television, non-fiction or not; each season is an expertly assembled rom-com epic, with impeccably cast ensembles worthy of Robert Altman and penetrating observational insights that make “The Bachelor” so much more than a mere dating...

As “The Golden Bachelor” nears the end of Gerry Turner’s journey of love, new and seasoned “Bachelor” Nation fans are all wondering the same thing: will there be a “Golden Bachelorette?”
While nothing is official yet, showrunners for the ABC reality dating series feel “hopeful” about the odds of another spin-off.
“We know that if we do [“Golden Bachelorette”], it will be very different,” co-showrunner Jason Ehrlich told TheWrap. “We’re really interested to see how that will play out, but hope that we do get the opportunity and that we get the same genuine feeling of reasonable people who are looking for love.”
Co-showrunner Claire Freeland added that the team is “standing by” for a potential green light from the network. “[With] the success of ‘Golden Bachelor,’ and the fact that it’s resonating so much with people, hopefully, there’s another iteration of that that happens, but we’ll wait and see.

When The Golden Bachelor was filming, star Gerry Turner discovered his celebrity doppelganger.

It appears Gerry Turner has stolen audiences’ hearts.
In its first week, the premiere episode of The Golden Bachelor has managed to deliver an audience of more than 11M total viewers across linear and streaming platforms. This accounts for both its debut telecast on September 28, as well as its rebroadcast on October 3.
The Sept. 28 broadcast alone soared to 9M viewers after seven days of delayed viewing, according to ABC.
That’s an addition 4.64M people who tuned in through delayed cross-platform viewing, making it the strongest multiplatform telecast for any series within The Bachelor franchise in more than two years — since February 2021, when Matt James led the titular series.
In the 18-49 entertainment demo, the episode has grown to a 2.46 rating, which is quadruple its initial live+same-day rating. This is the best seven-day multiplatform rating for the franchise in two years, since a September 2021 episode of Bachelor in Paradise.

ABC on Friday morning unveiled the core group of love-seeking stars set for Bachelor in Paradise, its Mexico-set spin-off of the Bachelor franchise, which brings together contestants from both that flagship show and its sister series The Bachelorette in pursuit of another shot at love.
The news comes following last week’s feel-good conclusion of The Bachelorette Season 20, which saw former Bachelor contestant Charity Lawson accept a proposal from Dotun Olubeko. Competitors from Lawson’s season who will be showing up on the beach for Bip Season 9 include Brayden Bowers, Aaron Bryant, Pilot Peter Cappio, Sean McLaughlin and Aaron Schwartzman.
Then, there’s Lawson, Katie Thurston, Hannah Brown and Rachel Recchia, who follow in the footsteps of Becca Kufrin as former Bachelorettes making their way to paradise. Jesse Palmer of course returns as host, with Wells Adams to get back behind the bar as the latest installment kicks off on Thursday,...

Earlier this week, Bachelor Nation was rocked to the core when it was revealed that Mike Fleiss, the creator, was bowing out after 21 years.
At the time, Fleiss released a statement in which he thanked Warner Bros. Television and ABC.
"They've found the perfect creative team for me to entrust The Bachelor franchise and keep this lightening in a bottle bold and moving forward," he said.
"Let the journey continue."
Days later, new details have emerged about what reportedly went on behind the scenes of the popular franchise.
Variety reports that Fleiss' sudden exit came after an investigation into allegations of racial discrimination.
According to the report, the investigation included accounts of producers on the show about Fleiss pushing back on bringing diversity to the franchise.
Unnamed staffers also opened up about "bullying" tactics he would use.
"People said he would retaliate against people for having minorities and Black people on the show,...

Two days after news broke that The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss was exiting the franchise that premiered more than two decades ago, he has responded to a report that his departure followed an investigation into racial discrimination, with Fleiss acknowledging that he could have done more to engender diversity.
Variety published a report Thursday stating that Warner Bros. Television, which is behind ABC’s long-running dating franchise, conducted the investigation after several employees lodged complaints against Fleiss that included alleged bullying. Per the report, among those involved in the investigation conducted by a third party were current producers as well as former production staffers, which led to Fleiss’ exit.
In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Fleiss did not directly address the investigation but said that he should have stepped up efforts to make the franchise more diverse. He stated that he was proud of having worked to make...
