Last week the winds of winter came to a chilly BFI Southbank as the cast and crew of HBO’s decade-defining TV show Game of Thrones gathered for a series retrospective.
To celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray release of Game of Thrones, Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran Stark), Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) and Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane) were on hand to showcase some never seen before bonus material on the big screen for the first time, which was followed by a panel discussion with host Edith Bowman. The cast was joined on stage by members of the off-screen team that helped create the show: Sarah and Barrie Gower (Prosthetics Department), Tommy Dunne (Weapons Master) and Michele Clapton (Costume Design).
Colin Hart and Scott Davis were our Men of the Watch on the red carpet, and we spoke to the cast and crew about their memories of the show, their characters, and which...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “Game of Thrones” Season 8, Episode 4, “The Last of the Starks.”]
“Game of Thrones” introduces viewers to a new and improved scorpion — a giant crossbow-like weapon — in “The Last of the Starks” that is a vast improvement from the previous clunky one that Bronn (Jerome Flynn) used in the Loot Train battle last season. That old mounted crossbow is big enough to launch a bolt that could pierce a dragon with one man operating it by standing behind it. The new scorpion is massive and requires seven men to operate it, and it has a greater range.
Not only does this scorpion kill a dragon (Rip Rhaegal), but its bolts also have the power to rip through the hull of ships from a distance. Series weapons master Tommy Dunne — the equivalent of Maester Qyburn — spoke to IndieWire about making the massive and impressive piece of machinery.

Major spoilers as we dig into the background surrounding what went down in Game of Thrones Season 8 episode 4.
Warning: contains major spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4, "The Last of the Starks."
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
What does Dany whisper in Ser Jorah’s ear?
According to this from actor Iain Glen speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the words were unscripted and therefore of Emilia Clarke’s choosing, and we’ll never know. Perhaps she just repeated lines by Bill Murray?
What’s the significance of the brooch Sansa pins on Theon?
It’s a direwolf, the symbol of House Stark, which is Sansa’s way of telling Theon Greyjoy, the little Iron Islands boy who was brought up with Sansa and her siblings as Ned’s “ward” (read: hostage) that she saw him as a true Stark, and to thank him for helping her to escape Ramsay.

A couple of weeks ago we were lucky enough to be invited along to a rather special event as Sky Atlantic gave us the chance to join the Night’s Watch in celebration of Game of Thrones season 7 coming back our screens on Monday July 17th at both 2am (to simulcast with the Us) and 9pm later that evening.
Hosting the event were Game of Thrones Weapons Master Tommy Dunne (who has also worked on movies including Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, Blood Diamond, & The Bourne Ultimatum to name but a few) and Stunt Coordinator Rowley Irlam (whose CV is just as impressive and includes Casino Royale, Captain America, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Skyfall, Captain Phillips and many more) who would be putting us through our paces using both the sword and the bow. It’s time to head back to Twin Peaks, salute some major names (Gus Van Sant, James Cameron, Hal Ashby, Guillermo del Toro, Orson Welles), icons (James Dean), and (former) power players (Mike Ovitz). Plus, Harry Potter, Seinfeld, and McDonald’s! Let’s start with a loving look back at 50 years of the starship Enterprise.
Star Trek: 50 Artists 50 Years (Titan Books)
There have been a number of interesting books released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, but there’s no question that 50 Artists 50 Years is the handsomest. As the title makes clear, the premise is simple: 50 respected artists, all with wildly unique styles, were tasked with creating a work of art highlighting some element of the Trek universe. There’s plenty of original series — Glen Brogan’s jaunty representation of the bridge of the Enterprise is my personal favorite — and lots of Spock. Plus, Leonard Nimoy himself...

Since 2011's The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor, fans of Robert Kirkman's living dead world have been able to get their Walking Dead fix in novel form in addition to the comic book series and TV show. Last year, Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga kicked off a brand new 4-book series with The Walking Dead: Descent and it's now been announced that Bonansinga's follow-up novel, The Walking Dead: Invasion, will be unleashed in October. Along with its release date, the new zombie novel's cover art and synopsis have been revealed, with the latter teasing the apocalyptic challenges Lilly Caul will face this time around, including the deranged Reverend Jeremiah Garlitz.

We interviewed Jay Bonansinga when he was wrapping up The Governor novels and it seemed very likely that he’d be back for more novels set in The Walking Dead universe. Fans of his work won’t have too long to wait, as it has just been announced that Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga will kick off a brand new 4-book series with The Walking Dead: Descent.
Due out on October 14th from Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press, the new story will focus on Lilly Caul, a survivor of the battle between The Governor and Rick’s group at the prison. According to EW, we’ll see Lilly “returns to the town [Woodbury] and attempts to rebuild it after the Governor’s failed assault on the prison”.
This adds a lot more credence to the idea that Lilly Caul will make a return to the comic book series...

Between the time Thomas Dunne published horror author Weston Ochse's first book in the Seal Team 666 series around Thanksgiving of 2012 and the 2nd book, Age of Blood, around Halloween of 2013 an amazing thing happened, Hollywood came knocking. Weston took a few minutes out of his busy signing schedule to talk to us about it.
Where did Seal Team 666 come from?
Myself, Peter Straub, Jack Ketchum and a whole bunch of other folks were at a Dead Dog party at World Horror Convention is Austin. We were getting pretty hammered when one of the guys came running in and said "Turn on the TV!" We turned on the TV and President Obama was on announcing the take down and killing of Osama Bin Laden. It was ridiculous how cheerful and happy we felt about the death of this guy. Because he was the cause of so many deaths of Americans and so much anger.

Thomas Dunne (Brian Dennehy), based upon the great-grandfather of playwright Sebastian Barry, had been commissioner of the Dublin Metropolitan Police in the years before Irish independence in 1922, responsible for enforcing order on behalf of British rule. His fellows derisively dismissed him as a “Castle Catholic.” In The Steward of Christendom, set 10 years later, Dunne now resides in a small room of his own atop a rural madhouse, stripped not only of authority and status but down to his dirty drawers and shoeless, a ranting King Lear of the civil service. Like Lear, Dunne has three daughters,

Macmillan Publishers has strengthened its commitment to shepherding film and TV adaptations of its book titles by forming Macmillan Entertainment. The division will be run by executive editor Brendan Deneen, who has been an editor since 2010 at the St. Martin’s Press imprint Thomas Dunne Books. This isn’t exactly a big revelation, considering that Deneen has been setting up film projects for Macmillan since 2010, when book, magazine and newspaper publishers really started seeing the revenue potential of holding onto ancillary rights and sharing in the riches of option deals. Related: Macmillan Publishers Starts Film/TV Unit Deneen came to publishing from the film business, starting as a development/production executive for Scott Rudin and for Bob and Harvey Weinstein. Nineties-era nostalgists are celebrating the news that Fear Street, R.L. Stine’s sprawling classic horror series for teens — which ran from 1989 to 2005 and has sold 80 million copies — will be making a comeback. Starting in October, 2014, three new books will be released in hardcover by Thomas Dunne Books, a division of St. Martin’s Press. For that, we can thank the Internet. Stine is an avid Twitter user, and that’s exactly the medium through which he connected with Kat Brzozowski, an associate editor at Thomas Dunne, who had long been interested in doing “a Fear Street for the 21st century” and who is now actually doing Fear Street for the 21st century.“It’s a dream come true for me to work with him,” Brzozowski told me. “Fear Street was one of the reasons I wanted to work in publishing; they’re one of the things that kicked off the Y.

Exclusive: A couple of intriguing developments have happened on The Equalizer. After a strong reading with Denzel Washington, Chloe Moretz is getting the offer from Sony Pictures to play the female lead in the drama that will re-team Training Day tandem Washington and Antoine Fuqua. At the same time, Michael Sloan, creator of the 1980s TV series, has made a deal to write an original novel for Thomas Dunne Books that will continue the adventures of Robert McCall, the shadowy character originated by Edward Woodward who’ll be played on the big screen by Washington. Moretz is a surprise choice to play the role of Teri, in that the role was originally drawn for a twentysomething. After Moretz did a chemistry reading with Washington, he was very impressed as was everybody else, and the role will be redrawn for Moretz to play a young prostitute, reminiscent of Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver.

Reel Ink is a new, hopefully bi-monthly column in which I’ll review a wide selection of recent books about film, covering everything from more scholarly tomes to biographies, film histories and lighter, fan appreciation type publications and whatever else of interest catches my eye.
The first column will be divided into two parts, as I’ve had such a great response from book publicists I contacted about the column that it is going to take me a little longer than anticipated to get through all the books I’ve acquired (and thanks to all who contributed review copies).
Part 1 includes a look at one of the greatest British films of the ‘60s, meditations on contemporary cinema from one of America’s most incisive film writers, an examination of some of the most troubled productions in film history, a loving photographic homage to Britain’s greatest cinema icon, the biography...

John Schoenfelder is leaving Mulholland Books to be Svp for producer Scott Rudin. Schoenfelder spent 2 1/2 years at Mulholland, and the same amount of time at the St. Martin’s Press imprint Thomas Dunne. His choices as an editor have a certain cinematic bent to them, including a top-secret novel being written by Doug Dorst from a concept hatched by Jj Abrams; the Warren Ellis novel Gun Machine; and Exile, the novel that’s being written by Safe House scribe David Guggenheim and Nick Mennuti. Schoenfelder will report to Rudin and his top exec and producing partner Eli Bush. Schoenfelder said he always hoped to enter the film business, and was a film major at the University of Wisconsin and a rabid film follower. “I’ve always been inspired by Scott and his ability to turn literature into compelling films,” said Schoenfelder, who starts the new job May 1.

In Dog Blood, the so-called "Haters," who have been infected with the virus face the "Unchanged," or those immune. As well, Dog Blood amps up the warfare as these two forces face each other on the battlefield which almost leads to nuclear annihilation for the entire United Kingdom. I never would have thought in a million years that we would see a Seinfeld style mash-up parody of the George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire book series. This is actually happening! Thomas Dunne Books has signed a deal to publish a book called A Game of Groans by George R.R. Costanza. This will basically be a retelling of the story through the mind of Seinfeld's George Castanza, at least that what I envision it being.
Here's the brief blurp that was released in Publishers Marketplace, and it sounds pretty weird and whacky. In all honesty I don't think I will be taking the time to read this book. It's funny yet pointless.
