Exclusive: ABC’s Women of the Movement has assembled a team of four accomplished Black female directors for the first installment of the potential anthology that celebrates the women of the civil rights movement. Tina Mabry (Mississippi Damned), Julie Dash (Daughters of the Dust) and Kasi Lemmons (Harriet) will join Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball), as directors on the limited series, from creator-writer Marissa Jo Cerar and a producing team that includes Jay-Z, Will Smith and Aaron Kaplan.
The six-episode series, set to premiere in 2021, centers on Mamie Till-Mobley, played by Adrienne Warren, who devoted her life to seeking justice for her son Emmett Till (Cedric Joe) following his brutal killing in the Jim Crow South.
As previously announced, Prince-Bythewood, who executive produces, will direct the first episode., Mabry will direct the second and third episodes, Dash will helm the fourth and fifth episodes and Lemmons will direct the sixth and final episode.

The consistent expansion of the U.S. television landscape coupled with an increasing number of emerging platforms has meant the hunger for new content is greater than ever. 3Geez Prods. has acquired the rights to The Cheese Monkeys, the debut novel from book-cover designer Chip Kidd. The book follows a group of students through their first two semesters majoring in art. The film version will be produced by Amy Green and Sarah Gibson and will be directed by Chris Grismer. ICM represented Kidd. Gavin Wise of Loeb & Loeb represented 3Geez Prods. Agent Bill Douglass has departed WMA to join the Paradigm Talent and Literary Agency. Douglass, who was vp in WMA's television department and served as a senior network packaging liaison, will work in both the television and feature departments at Paradigm. It is not yet known what clients Douglass will be bringing with him. "Bill is one of the more unique agents in the business," Paradigm president and CEO Sam Gores said. "He is diligent in keeping his focus on the clients and their careers, which makes him a perfect fit with Paradigm's culture. His expertise and understanding in working with successful directors and writers plays a key role in the continuing expansion of Paradigm, where he will be an asset to the already strong team of agents." Douglass spent eight years at WMA. He started his career at ICM. The appointment continues Paradigm's push for growth, following the purchase of the former MCA headquarters in Beverly Hills, the expansion of the production department and the addition of more than 10 agents, including former WMA agent Robert Stein.
