- Has been released from his contract on The Young and the Restless (1973), however he still continues appear on the show on a recurring basis. (May 2006)
- He was the younger brother of Alan Douglas, who was a highly regarded record producer of jazz and rock, including albums by Jimi Hendrix and Duke Ellington. Alan Douglas died, at age 82, in Paris, France on June 7, 2014.
- He has two children, daughter Avra Douglas and son Jod Douglas (aka Jodaman Douglas), fathered while he was married to his then-wife, Arlene Martel.
- Has one son with Kym Douglas, Hunter Douglas.
- Went to Brandeis University to earn a law degree in economics. Eight months into law school, he gave up the books and started auditioning. However, his lack of training frustrated him, and he eventually moved with his then-wife, Arlene Martel, and their daughter, Avra Douglas, to California.
- He was the son of Rose (Silbert) and William Rubenstein, a junk seller and later mattress manufacturer. His parents were Russian Jewish immigrants.
- Graduated from Chelsea Senior High School in Massachusetts in 1950 in the same class as his cousin, Helen.

- He was a lifelong liberal Democrat.
- Upon his death, he was cremated and his ashes returned unto his surviving family.
