German leading lady of the 1920's, best remembered as Trilby in the Terra-Filmkunst production of
Svengali (1927). A printer's daughter, she began on stage in 1921 as Anita Dorothea Schmidt. She changed her name to Anita Dorris in 1926 after making her debut in motion pictures. After a mere five years, she retired from the screen at the request of her director-husband, E.W. Emo.
