Folk-rock singer Johnny Irion knows a good song when he hears it — even if it’s not in his native language. While on tour in Germany, Irion spent an evening drinking wine and talking music with his friend Michael Kleff, who introduced him to a staple of German pop radio in the Sixties, “Marmor, Stein und Eisen bricht.”
With its “dum dum” refrain, Irion couldn’t get it out of his head, and he began performing it onstage while on tour in Europe. “It stuck with me, and I got...

(Spoiler alert: Don't read this if you don't want to know what happened on "Mad Men" Sunday.) "Mad Men" star Jared Harris says his character, Lane Pryce, killed himself in the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce office as a "fuck you" to his colleagues. On Sunday's episode of the AMC series, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) ordered Pryce to resign after catching him embezzling. Pryce tried to gas himself in his new Jaguar, but it had starter trouble. So he hung himself in his office instead. Also read: Jaguar's Mixed Emotions About 'Mad Men' "He was...

Vulture has already heartily endorsed the bouncy, summer-ready "All of Me," off Tanlines's just released Mixed Emotions, so let us fast-forward to its brand-new video, directed by the Might Boosh's Julian Barrett. It is delightful! And it helpfully answers the very important question of how best to dance to "All of Me" in the public setting of your choosing. (Cookout? Subway? Do you.) To summarize: stand up awkwardly, find a partner, sway back while staring stonily at your partner (hands by your side), form a circle so that someone can sashay around in the center, then find your partner again and show him or her your claw hands. And remember, "winky-sad" is the look. Got it?...

Tanlines kicked off summer in February when they dropped their dance-it-out single "All of Me" — and Vulture was super excited about that. So you can imagine our delight today, when the Brooklyn-based duo (Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm) release their first full-length album, Mixed Emotions. (They've otherwise been kicking around the Internet for two years, sharing YouTube singles, EPs, and remixes.) Cohen chatted with Vulture about online indie cred, his siblinglike relationship with Emm, and their "winky-sad" sound. This is your first full-length album. But you've been putting music out for a while, straight from your studio to the Internet. I never wanted to be the kind of artist that sat there working on something that I thought was a masterpiece for, like, years and either never putting it out because I never thought it was done, or putting it out and no one caring about it. It was always...

Since they hit the scene in 2008 the New York duo Tanlines have been releasing a steady slew of indie-disco tunes with tastemaker labels across the world, including Young Turks, Kitsune and True Panther Sounds. Mixed Emotions, released through Matador Records on March 19th, is the band’s first full length album, proving again the old adage that good things come to those who wait.
It seems as if ever since everyone fell in love with Temper Trap’s gloriously sunny “Sweet Disposition” the floodgates have opened to this kind of synthy, catchy yet sophisticated pop music. A more recent example would be Gotye’s “Somebody I Used To Know”. However, to say Tanlines are cashing in on an in-vogue genre would be to their disservice, as there is a good amount of variety on display here.

Most Iconic Vma Performance turned out to be the most contentious category in our Ultimate Vma Showdown with nearly 10 million votes tallied. It’s really no surprise though, after all, the MTV Video Music Awards are well-known as the place some of the most iconic performances in music go down.
Only in a poll this huge would 36,379 votes garner Madonna just 0.37 percent of the total tally for her historic performance of “Like a Virgin” at the first-ever VMAs in 1984. The same holds true for Britney Spears and Lady Gaga, both of whom amassed just over 200,000 votes each but still only registered 2 percent of the total.
That’s because the real story here is that this particular poll found its way into the hands of fansites dedicated to Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi, and we can now say with complete assurance that those are two groups who will rally like crazy around their favorite artist.

We asked and you responded like crazy!
Over the last week or so, we polled you guys about your favorite MTV Video Music Awards moments and boy did you let us know who your favorites were in categories like Most Iconic Vma Performance, Best Video of the 2000s and Best Pop Performance!
All told, we received a staggering 15 million votes in nine categories. By far the most heated contest came in the Most Iconic Vma Moment poll, where we received nearly 10 million votes … and over 9 million of those were split between two acts – Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi. That’s right! Fan groups for the two classic MTV artists got crazy competitive, but ultimately Mj prevailed, taking just over 57 percent of the vote. The late King of Pop’s 1995 Vma performance also took the crown for Best Vma Pop Performance.

Harold Gould (Getty) Harold Gould, an easily recognizable character actor in TV, films and theater for decades, died Sept. 11 of prostate cancer in Woodland Hills. He was 86.
Gould probably is best known for playing Marty Morgenstern, father of the title character on the 1970s spinoff sitcom "Rhoda," after originating the role on CBS' "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." He also played the con man Kid Twist in the best picture Oscar winner "The Sting" (1973).
A native of Schenectady, N.Y., Gould appeared on hundreds of TV shows -- earning five Emmy nominations -- including recurring roles on "The Golden Girls," "Spencer," "Soap" and "Hawaii Five-o," on which he played the notorious Honore Vachon. Kieron Gaffney makes his return to the show with mum and dad in tow
Kieran Gaffney has had a longer journey to The Britain’s Got Talent final than most, having narrowly missed out on a semi final spot last year.
He returned to try out this year with his parents, failed miserably, returned as a solo act got through and then, finally, wowed the judges on last night’s semi final. After listening to him drum to The Black Eyed Peas ‘Pump It’ Simon Cowell said:
“Kieran not only was that a absolutely brilliant stunning performance but a lot of people could take a leaf out of your book. You didn’t make it last year, you nearly blew it with your mum and dad, but you never once whinged or complained. You’ve come back as a man.”

Kieron Gaffney makes his return to the show with mum and dad in tow
Kieran Gaffney is the little drummer boy who failed to make it through to last year’s semi finals and who returned to audition this year with his parents. He ditched the parents, made it through to tonight’s semi final and turned up to drum us all away tomorrow night.
We loved Kieron’s routine, his drumming was amazing and we admit to being a little bit wowed by his floating stage thingy. We think he’s got tonight’s show all in the bag!
Judges Comments:
Piers Morgan: Loved it Kieran you are a little fighter.
Amanda Holden: I want to kiss you, it was just absolutely fantastic. I always wanted this moment for you and I am thrilled that you got it!

Street dance group and best friends Peridot make their Britain’s Got Talent return tomorrow night and hope that this time, they can win the competition and change their lives.
Peridot featured in a 30 second snippet of the ITV show in 2009 and made it past the first round of auditions, however they failed to make it as far as the live rounds.
On tomorrow night’s episode they tell the cameras:
‘We are a dance group, South London based. We started dancing just as friends but now it feels like we’re just a big family now. Dance changed a lot of our lives. I lived on an estate, there was nothing to do, I saw a dance class so I started going there. I didn’t come home just to start hanging round on the estate after school.’
‘As individuals we’ve all got different stuff that we do during the week.

Melissa Serpico has revealed that Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell was so smitten by her talented dog Laika at their recent audition, that she offered him ownership of the beloved pooch.
Claiming that she had the world’s only guitar playing dog, Melissa took to the London Hammersmith Apollo stage stage and judge Simon Cowell was instantly impressed, telling Amanda Holden:
“See those are the kind of dogs I like. I like old, nobody wants me dogs.”
Melissa proceeded to play the guitar and sing the Beatles Let It Be as her dog Laika sat next to her looking in the opposite direction.
Presenter Ant McPartlin laughed: “I’ve never seen a dog look embarrassed before, until now. That dog looks embarrassed.”
She later told The Romford Recorder: “I started my song but the crowd started chanting ‘Off! Off! Off!’ Simon said ’show us your guitar-playing dog...

Kieron Gaffney makes his return to the show with mum and dad in tow
Britain’s Got Talent star Kieran Gaffney has admitted that he is terrified of being cut by the judging panel again, before he reaches the live semi finals of the series.
Last year Kieran got three yeses after he impressed the judges with his drumming prowess, however he was dropped before he could perform again on the live shows.
Kieran told The Sun:
“I felt devastated when I didn’t get through last year.
“Anyone that came to me to say sorry, I just went, ‘Oh, don’t talk to me.’ I don’t want to go through that again.”
Returning this year with his mum and dad, Kieran got through by the skin of his teeth after Simon Cowell allowed him to do a second solo audition.

Kieran Gaffney – the drummer boy from last year’s Britain’s Got Talent – returned tonight with a band. His parents and it looked like Mrs Gaffney stopped off at Ann Summers for her stage costume. Now called ‘Mixed Emotions’, the family trio completely lacked the magic of the kid drumming solo. The mum couldn’t sing, they kept stopping every time they were buzzed and it was a great day for music when this band split.
Simon Cowell blasted:
‘I’ve got to be honest, the act like this is utterly atrocious!’
Piers Morgan added:
‘I was really, really disappointed! You’re the talent not your mum, no disrespect to her.’
Luckily, after the sad sad music played in the background, Simon took pity on Kieran and allowed him to return for a solo audition. With...

13 year old drummer boy Kieron Gaffney makes his return to Britain’s Got Talent this Saturday night.
The teenager auditioned for last year’s series of the show and though he made it past the audition stage, the judges decided not to put him through to the live semi-finals.
This year Kieron decided not to brave the stage alone and brought his guitar playing dad and singing mum along for support. The family formed ‘Mixed Emotions’ and Amanda Holden was delighted to see Kieron back. She gushed:
“I have never got so many texts from people telling me off for not putting you through. You were unbelievable.”
The three piece group embarked on their rendition of the Motown hit, Do You Love Me, with Kieron’s mum dressed in what looked like Ann Summers’ best basque and stockings. The performance was terrible and led Simon Cowell to blast:

Ten year old Chloe Hickinbottom took the Britain’s Got Talent judges by surprise this year, when she showed up to the Birmingham auditions and wowed them with an emotional rendition of an old Vera Lynn number.
After admitting that she doesn’t like the judges buzzers and that if she won she would spend the £100,000 prize money on tutus and leggings from Primark, Chloe gave a beautiful vocal performance of ‘The White Cliffs Of Dover.’
After she sang Amanda Holden gushed:

Louis Walsh (who was standing in for a sick Simon Cowell) added:

Piers Morgan added:

"Mixed Emotions" isn't just the name of a Rolling Stones' song that I hope someone will be performing tonight. It also perfectly describes how I feel going in to tonight's Top 12 performance show. On the one hand, the Top 12 is covering one of my very favorite bands. On the other, it's the wrong Top 12 covering them.
That's right, I'm still bitter about last Thursday's massacre of all things interesting on Idol. Tonight, when Paige Miles and Tim Urban take the stage, it'll be impossible not to long for what might have been had Lilly Scott and Alex Lambert stuck around to sing the Stones. Tonight we'll "all need somebody we can lean on, so if you want, you can lean on me. " So lean on me and follow along with my live thoughts, as we see who rocks the Rolling Stones and who gets rocked by the theme.
